Light 'em up list

By Gold_SquadronPilot, in X-Wing Squad Lists

The goal is to use Ryad with tie/d tractor beam to reduce the enemy ship's agility, and then attack with Ryad's primary as well as the 5 Academy pilots and light the enmy ships up one at a time. Theoretically this should take off an enemy ship off each round.

Light 'Em Up (98)

Countess Ryad (38) - TIE Defender
Push The Limit (3), Tractor Beam (1), TIE/D (0)

Academy Pilot (12) - TIE Fighter

Academy Pilot (12) - TIE Fighter

Academy Pilot (12) - TIE Fighter

Academy Pilot (12) - TIE Fighter

You don't really need an initiative bid. Put the Tie MK2 on Ryad to make her a little less predictable after her PTLs.

I think its more for the extra offensive firepower, hence the squad name.

He has room for a modification on Ryad. Not suggesting anything offensive be removed.

I only have the modifications from the tie phantom expansion :(

Yeah that's on me, my bad. In my head I read it was switching the title on her.

It won't work. TIE/D remains non-viable for everyone who isn't Vessery, and having one ship so defensively vulnerable as the lynchpin of the list is painting an even bigger bullseye on her face than TIE/D is. Once she is killed (and she will be, because she's PS5 and defensively speaking a pre-fix ship), you have nothing meaningful left to impact the game.

That's not even considering the vulnerability of the Academies themselves and how easy it will be for them to get PS-sniped before they can take advantage of the Tractor Beam, or how difficult it will be for them to get shots at all - shots that, without Howlrunner, will struggle to make an impact.

If you really want to stick to the theme, switch Ryad for Vessery, get him VI and the Defender tax (MKII engine), and try and fit Howlrunner in. It still won't work, but it will have a much better chance if the dice are kind.

Just trying to work that out on paper:

Colonel Vessery (TIE/D, Veteran Instincts, Tractor Beam, Twin Ion Engine Mk. II) [38]

Howlrunner (Crack Shot) [19]

Black Squadron Pilot (Crack Shot) [15]

Black Squadron Pilot (Crack Shot) [15]

Academy Pilot [12]

[99]

Much better. Just be aware that losing Vessery probably loses you the game unless you've already done enough damage to win it by then.

Upgrade those ties to Blacks on Crack(s). One guy in our local group played Howl,3Blacks and defender and he had pretty decent results with it.

Much prefer the evolved form with Vessery. And Howlrunner.

Another bonus to Howlrunner being in the mix... As she ramps up the mini swarms offense, she gives a tougher target choice to the opponent. Do they go after Vessery or Howl? They both act as force multipliers. Without Howl, Vessery takes full heat every time.

You even have a bait and switch option. If they turn for Vessery, he breaks off and Howl leads the.min swarm in behind. If they turn for the mini swarm, great let them.eat down shots and have Vessery free.

I quite like it, be interesting to see how the meta goes now as this sort of squadron could actually be viable again I think.

How is Vess going to get his free target locks with non of the Ties able to take a target lock action? Seems a bit of a waste of his ability

Oh god such an obvious thing to miss..

TIE Defender: ยท Colonel Vessery (35)
Veteran Instincts (1)
Tractor Beam (1)
TIE/D (0)
TIE Avanced Prototype: Baron of the Empire (19)
Crack Shot (1)
TIE/v1 (1)
TIE Avanced Prototype: Baron of the Empire (19)
Crack Shot (1)
TIE/v1 (1)
TIE Avanced Prototype: Baron of the Empire (19)
Crack Shot (1)
TIE/v1 (1)
-- TOTAL ------- 100p. --

Might be trying too hard to make it work though.

Crumbs, can't believe I missed that too.
It might be worth trying to switch from regular flavour TIE's to TIE/FO's?

Also guilty. Wasn't even thinking about it.

I played Ryad with ptl, tie/d and tractor beam, obsidian squad pilot x2 and zeta Squadron pilot x2. I completely shredded through norra wexly and red squad pilotx2

Nice. Well done!
