So post FAQ, can a struggling pilot get a little love?

By clanofwolves, in X-Wing Squad Lists

so my buddies are gonna want to crack my skull this weekend and are demanding I fly my Lambda list (a shuttle has to be in it) as they want to prove the FAQ right, I'm a bit nervious. What can I do to help myself out? If needed....that FAQ cracked my top squad.

Ryad/PtL/x7/mk2

Vessery/x7/Juke

Omicron/Palp

Thanks!

This is still a solid squad after the faq, just a bit more challenging to fly, a little less forgiving. the x7's don't get their free evade as easy, but still viable. And plap is just as useful, it just makes you gamble some since you need to call it before you roll. If you have been flying this awhile, I wouldn't be scared to run it still. After a little practice I would think it would be just as efficient, only have to plan ahead a bit more and avoid blocks with the x7. I say show them it wasn't just the list that was crushing them, but the pilot ;)

I agree with JSwindy. I feel this list is not squashed if the pilot is good enough. Just plan your moves ahead. They will be looking to block, Bump and put you on rocks. Just plan ahead and you should be just fine.

How about 2. Delta defenders with whisper with swarm leader?

Honestly (and a little off topic), I think this x7 adjustment will bring more /D's into play. I personally love running Vess w/ VI, D, TB, Twin Ion (so as not to be scared to make hard turns)

It won't. TIE/D didn't get any better - it remains a wasteful points trap for everyone who isn't Vessery.

To the OP's list, Juke on Vessery is a big mistake. You are risking 2pts of investment on a single evade token that is easily removed, and fire at PS6 so give the opponent plenty of further opportunity to ping it off with shots before you can use it. That's not to mention all the times where it won't help you - it is far too situational.

The Defender mod slot is for Twin Ion Engine MKII, because without it you are completely shut down by stress. If you can't fit it in, don't include the ship.

Palpatine is no longer worth the staggering investment required for him, so you can safely drop the Lambda and replace it with an actual third ship. Though I think you'd be better off dropping one of the Defenders as well, in order to free up more points to work with on the rest of the list, and to reduce the risk you get hard-countered by Stressbots/Ventress/etc.

You want people shooting Vessery first in this squad, don't you? Juke gives your opponent incentive to go after him first. A lot of people want to get that Shuttle off the board as quickly as possible. That may change after this FAQ but that remains to be seen.

If OP did well with this squad before the FAQ, he's still going to do well with it. X7 and Palpatine are still powerful, they just require more from the person playing them and are now open to some counter play.

In my limited experience with the palp shuttle, I would recommend not just running with it, especially after the faq. Try and use that 3 dice attack when ever possible and use it to block then 3-4 turns out of the fight getting turned around ;)

Do you? Seems him and Ryad are about equal in terms of both threat and survivability.

The OP might still do well, but that does not prove much - Palpatine's new effect and Defenders that are not Vessery or Ryad are still not worth their points.

All else being equal, I expect you will probably find that you do less well with it than before. Ultimately, the list you were flying is less good than it was before because of the restrcitions placed on the synergies it has (although the order of mangitude of that decrease in efficiency is yet to be determined). There will be some games you play where you have lower PS than all of your opponents ships and it isnt possible for him to block you, or where your opponent doesnt bring any stress control (although noted you can still self stress).

I'd say stick with it though. You might actually find it more enjoyable when the person opposite the table from you doesn't have such a large 'your list is OP' stick to beat you with. And you might find that you feel like you've had to work harder for the wins and take more satisfaction from it that way.

I wouldn't go changing the list now. It's still a very strong one even if its been taken down a peg and any changes you make to it now validate your groups opinion that it was OP before.
