Newb token question

By bbender88, in X-Wing Rules Questions

New to gaming, my 7 year old is a Star Wars fanatic and has been buying the miniatures with his money for a few months. I've purchased the core set for him as a birthday present. After watching a few entry level tutorials I don't understand one of the ship tokens. Each ship has their own set of tokens, the kihraxz ship has 3 round nosed tokens that say 47. What exactly are these for?

Those are markers. When there is more than 1 ship of the same type on the board every ship of that type has to have a marker to distinguish the individual ship. The markers have a dark background side and a light background side (typically used to distinguish the team/squad). Two of the tokens are placed on the base, at the front and back of the peg, and the remaining token is placed on the Pilot Card. The Core set will have several more sets of them, I think numbered 1-10...

To expand on Cap's comment; if you were running two generic Kihraxz fighters you and your opponent need to be able to tell them apart; primarily to keep track of damage allocation. So you could keep one blank and mark the other using the '47s' that come in the pack; or you could use the numbers for a core set and mark one as '1' and the other as '2' (or whatever combo of numbers floats your boat).

Thanks for the answers! I figured out the used core set I bought for him is missing the big rule book, I'm assuming it'll answer more of my questions. I thought the guide seemed a little sparse...

You can find the rule book, faq, and learn to play guide on the FFG site here https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/products/x-wing/

Thanks for the link, I'm sure having the rule book will help tremendously.

If you have any other questions feel free to ask here. We try to be very helpful to people new to the game.

VandorDM , thespaceinvader , digitalbusker , and a few others are great people who are always willing to answer questions and are (usually) correct!
