The /6 in 100/6?

By Herowannabe, in X-Wing

Okay, I missed something somewhere. Or perhaps I'm just dumb. Lately everyone had been tossing around the term "100/6," and I get that they're referring to the standard 100 point death matches, but where did the /6 come from? What does that mean?

thanks in advance for rectifying my ignorance.

Ohhhhhhh, okay, that makes sense. Thanks.

And here I was the whole time thinking it meant the standard 6 rounds of swiss

I'm dumb too assumed it was 6 rounds of combat, never been in a tournament

100/6 is kind of misleading. 100 is the points each player brings. 6 is the number of obstacles brought by both players. So follow-up question: should it be 100/3 or 200/6?

That's what I was going to ask.

Now I feel less stupid for not understanding what the 100/6 was supposed to mean. Everyone else was stupid instead!

Just call it Deathmatch, every one knows what that means.

Why does it feel like someone is going to start a Nerf thread over this...

I hope those ellipsis aren't implying sarcasm regarding terrible jargon.

100 out of 6?

100 over 6?

One-hundred sixths?

16.66666666...(!)

Took me a while to figure it out too.

Nah. Not sarcasm, so much as perhaps a moment of pause, reflect and reluctant acceptance in the term. Why? Because as jmswood points out, it's so misleading. I thought about expanding my thoughts with exactly what he pointed out, and decided I'd leave it.

I'm a sarcastic and dry person, but I try not to apply sarcasm to a straight question.

O geez that 100/6 is ever more dumb then i suspected....

Hey this is X-Wing, everything that is common has to have a really stupid and sometimes nonsensical name.

To be fair, I've only ever seen 100/6 being used by people denigrating it, as if people that opt to play it are subhuman.

All of us who play X-Wing are subhuman, some of us just own it better than others.

funny, I always thought i meant 'average of 3 ships per side', hadn't even considered it was to do with asteroids.

Heh, the more you know...

Not true. Regardless of where it may or may not have originated, the term is well beyond an insult to a type of play style. I use it myself, as a TO, describing different events I'm discussing running with my local store group. I use it with other experienced players. There's no slight behind my intentions.

Never thought about that. Crazy.

Opps! I've been building squads with 105 points for initiative bid. ;)

It does accurately represent the common environment for both players. They will field 100 points each, and will both fly with 6 obstacles on the table.

None of the tabletop games refer to the point limit as a common pool for both players, but rather what is the allowance per side.

Nerf Rocks, bring Debris clouds back into the meta. :P

We need more rocks !!!!!!

I thought it meant six ships (the typical limit a list can afford to bring).
