Rank 2 Spells/Blessings mean what?

By Lazer Knees, in WFRP Rules Questions

Does it mean you have to be Rank 2 (10+ advances) in order to use the action cards (i.e. spells/blessings)?

Ive looked around the rule books for confirmation but cant find anything.

you have to be Rank2 to use these spells/blessings without penalty. The penalty is 1 misfortune dice per Spell Rank difference.

So if you are an Initiate with Rank 2 and want to cast Rank 4 Blessing you have to add 2 misfortune dice to your dice pool.

Hm do you have a page reference for this?

The only things I've seen on Ranks are p.31 and p.35 in the Rulebook, where it indicates buying an action costs an extra advance per Rank difference.

I have to look it up at home

Yep, I've not seen that either. Only rule I know is that it costs more advances to by a acgtion card whose rank exceeds yours...as mentioned above.

I could find reference to Spell rank in three places

Spellcraft / Invocation specialities (Main rules page 18,19)

Spellcraft (Int) Specialisation options: History of Magic, Colleges of Magic, Rank 1 spells, Rank 2 spells, Rank 3 spells, Rank 4 spells, Rank 5 spells

Initial Character Creation (Page 31)

Some action cards have a rank listed. A character may acquire an action card above his current rank during character creation, at the cost of one additional action card from his investment allotment for every diference in rank.

Character advancement (Page 35)

A character may acquire an action card above his rank, at the cost of one additional advance for every diference in rank. For example, a Rank 1 character
would need to spend one extra advance (in addition to the normal acquisition requirements) to acquire a Rank 2 action card.

I'd be glad to buy quite soon some "Magic/blessing" supplement to see rank 3+ powers of the god and colleges in the corebox... Moreover I'm really curious to discover the 5 missing colleges spells and the others god's orders :)

As we all did I guess.

Ok. Thank you for searching the rules in the text. So I was wrong. Then you can cast Spells/Blessing in wichever rank you want if you spend the advances and the XP and face the danger of drawbacks when you got "Banes" and the "Chaos Star"... He,he!
