Help! My family wants me to watch a princess movie!

By TitaniumChopstick, in X-Wing Off-Topic

So, I'm sure most of you aren't aware but there is a new Disney princess movie coming out soon and of course, my family would insist I go watch it as part of some "family bonding time". Initially, my gut instinct was to refuse, but after learning Emma Watson plays a large role in the movie, I have been reconsidering that notion. ;) What do you guys think, will watching this movie jeopardize my manhood or is it alright to go watch my future wife on the big screen with the fam?

If you question whether watching a movie jeopardizes your manhood it was already questionable. Losing your frame on the other hand by caving after you said you weren't going is another matter. And if Emma Watson is all that in your estimation, get out more and talk to many more girls.

I know, I know. That's the same face I made when I was first asked to go. EmmaWatson-copy.jpegThen there was this...

Talk to girls?!? But... But... What about cooties? Will I get sick? Will I die?

As long as you make it a double feature, with the second being Kong or something else that's full of testosterone, you have nothing to worry about.

I'm not sure but it seems likely you'll find one with more curves and didn't get patted on the back for standing up in front of the UN and being a sexist. Do you want chivalry or equality Ms. Watson?

As a parent, you often have to suck it up and go to see drivel for the family. At least most kid's movies these days have gotten pretty tolerable for the parental unit. I still shudder at "Happy Feet".

The on!y acceptable princess movie for a man to watch is the princess bride, watching any other is inconceivable!

"The Princess Bride" is the only move that ever made me a list of promises in the first ten minutes and then delivered on every single one of them. Quite possibly one of the greatest movies ever.

Princess Mononoke!

Yep. It's in these moments that I have no regrets being 49 and childless. While you're at the movies, I'll have a cocktail, a meal, and a quiet night of that stuff that makes kids without a 20-year side effect ;)

On the other hand, there are a ton of movies that I've seen that are actually pretty darn cool. Many of my childless friends still haven't seen the Lego movie, which I recommend for anyone. Also, once they are a bit older, they can get into cooler stuff. Shown my daughter Twin Peaks and my son all the Clone Wars, Rebels, Dr Who, and now Star Trek stuff.

Just because a movie has a princess in it, it doesn't make it drivel. Most Disney movies are higly rated for a reason.

Also Star Wars has a princess character I believe. Leia or something.

And Princess and the frog is ok to. Dr Facilier is easly my fave Disney villain.

Went to see Kong Skull Island this weekend. 8 o clock in the evening, and half the theathre was families with young kids (round 5-8 years) Not sure what rating Kong has, but a whole lot of people end up all kinds of dead in that movie. Guess they weren't expecting that huh?

I wasn't saying that princess movies with drivel. I was saying that you go see drivel when you have kids.

I'm gladly taking my wife to it this weekend, Beauty and the Beast was her favorite movie when she was little so I will happily take her. Plus this means she has to come see Alien Covenant with me

Ahh, you had to rub it in. :)

Man, I had forgot all about quiet and cocktails 'til you just brought it up. So now I'm double sad. Sad that I'd forget such luxuries, and sad that I don't have them either.

Ignorance and forgetfulness was truly bliss...:(

Wait, I do remember now, when there were no children, that "quiet stuff" wasn't so quiet. Are you sure you're doing right?:P

Ah, hell, you can't be doing it wrong if you don't have any 20 year side effects.

I took my 11 year old to Kong and figured it was PG-13 or so. It wasn't too much for him. He doesn't see anything worse than what's on (non-cable) tv. My son was so-so in wanting to go and we made him. He loved it though! It was a monster movie and better than Godzilla. I'm glad I could have fun with him and that movie.

If you see Kong you must stay for the after credits scene!

Oh yeah definatly! First hint I had was when I was reading the end credits and there was this line about certain (character names witheld due to spoilers) being property of Toho. ;-)

What came after the credits made me squee like a little schoolgirl :D

Yeah at 11 they can handle a lot more stuff. But when you're five and you see what those saw beaked pterodactyl things do that one dude...

So did you and you manhood survive watching it or has something been lost? ;)

It wasn't as terrible as I thought it was going to be. I've definitely seen worse. I might have even talked the fam into letting me go see Kong in the next week or 2 so I guess it all equals out in the end. ;)

Edit: And Ewan McGregor is the candle dude, so that was kinda cool I guess.
