Palp lately isn't as effective or annoying as he used to be, but when remembering the 'Indestructible Adventures of Soontir Fel' I can't help but grin at this. It's late, but burn that crutch of a card, that literally compensated for lack of skill, to the ground, baby!

Palp ruined this game a year and a half ago, now this will begin to make things right.

Fun fact: People are still going to use him because it is still good, but now it's part of a strategy and not merely "let's make this full evades/hits."

Is he eight points and two crew slots good though? Wouldn't be surprised if this turns out to be a kill shot like Manaroo. Every card in the game's cost exists in the context of every alternate option.

I think we will see Palp assist Kylo in showing people the Dark Side.

Possibly. If that's the case he'll probably be seen with Wampa and maybe Maarek more too. He's not as effective without specific synergies any more: he'll probably become more of a crit generator than a defensive tool.

I concur. I think we'll seem him still, but it'll be as part of low-agi high-HP lists that want hyper-reliable red dice e.g. Kylo pilot/RAC. When you're chucking 4 or 5 dice, you're much more likely to roll at least one blank or eye that you can turn into a crit, and you're vanishingly UNlikely to roll all crits and waste him completely.

Whether he's better than Op Spec/Gunner, however, for the same cost and slots, is a separate question.

I suspect the nerf bat has hit him just a touch too hard.

Actually nobody did that, they argued that it is not a healthy consumer attitude to see the Raider as mostly Palpatine. And to see the Palpatine card as worth so much.

What I'd argue, though, is that you don't have a tight grasp on the games design if you think Palp is entirely worthless now. That isn't required to be good at it, but it helps a lot when asessing the value of upgrades and building new lists. Because Palpatine can still do what he was supposed to - be a get out of jail card against a single bad roll. He is no longer a get out of jail card when parking your fragile ship in the face of 3+ enemy ships like he used to, but that doesn't mean he is worthless. Wether or not he is worth 8 points time will tell. It isn't a clear cut issue like you assume without much thought or even play experience (with the new card), though.

Pretty sure the two crew slots was to keep him off of Firesprays and Phantoms and not an indication of his value.

I'd still like to see him adress the argument that Palp has in fact not been utterly destroyed...but I guess it is easier to keep on perpetuating personal grudges.

I wrote it already somewhere: he is fine, harder to use but fine. Just not for 8 points and 2 slots anymore.

Either around 3-5 points on 2 slots or maybe 6-8 on 1 slot. As your point is very valid i would say that he should now be around 3-5 with 2 slots.
