Who's at the door? It's LT Dormitz with Imperial PD!!!

By Zorprime, in X-Wing Squad Lists

okay! there is a lot of talk about Dormitz/Hyperwave scanner lists. I play tested one while trying out the Upsilon a few weeks ago. It's pretty impressive what can be done. Please share your best Dormitz list and any experience of how well it performed.

Here is my favorite.

Essentially my list puts Pure Sabacc and Quickdraw at your doorstep with 4-5 Pure dice & Quickdraw throwing a total of 7-8 attack dice A PS9 Quickdraw doing a pre-combat phase(potentially pre-token) electronic baffle shot and a homing missile salvo opening round. High probability of positioning the same target.

Lieutenant Dormitz (31)
Kylo Ren (3)
Systems Officer (2)
Hyperwave Comm Scanner (1)

"Quickdraw" (29)
Rage (1)
Electronic Baffle (1)
Homing Missiles (5)
Experimental Interface (3)
Special Ops Training (0)

"Pure Sabacc" (22)
Adaptability (0)
Lightweight Frame (2)
Adaptive Ailerons (0)

Total: 100

FFG may have created a Monster.

my list is quantity, max dice on target & yours is quality, a named pilot crit & wampa crit on target round 1. Whisper can PS 0 or Blinded pilot opening round & 98 pt init bid! Very nice.

Surely that only works once and then your opponent would learn what to do (ie not set up across from you)? Cool as **** though XD

That's why you run it with 2 /sfs and all 3 ships have hypercomm. Wherever they set up, you deploy at PS12 to follow them.

Turn 0 is still huge for lists like this though, making a proper screen of rocks can help an awful lot.

Heh I'd love to see it in action

That's definitely true, I've only flown it a few times, but each round of that tourney, ppl casually looked at the build and were like, eh, okay then proceeded to setup like they would against any other build and blammo, they were shocked. Like any build, once people figure out what you're doing, they'll adjust, if it's a good list, you can adjust to that and you get the idea........I am trying it because I love Whisper, I love the synergy it can create and I love the idea that I can IF I WANT put guys half way across the board, opening options even if they are way on the other side.........

As long as you deploy after someone which is highly likely with PS 9s, it will take more than simply just not deploying across from someone. I've done some testing and a lot of ships are not going to be in position to avoid opening round firing arc. Aces can make opening moves that will do it but the Dormitz crew can also do a fake out and not dive hard or 3 bank in.

IoW it's not just a cheap trick easily worked around. The investment is small in points so your list doesnt have to be as janky or unbalanced to do this opening.

The token stack you open with is quite good with free evade for ships that may not even have evade & a coordinate action.

I was able to get a good test in last night vs. a friend 3xT70 generic(R2?)/Jess(M9-G8)/Poe(BB8). He did his best full well knowing the rush I planned to do. I had two lanes, quickdraw down one side of a middle asteroid and Sabacc down the other. He had 3 Xwings and did a series of hard 2's in favor of sabacc side vs. a double tap from Quickdraw. All but one Xwing managed to get out of quickdraws fire and was in both Sabacc & QD range. opening round I had it down to 1 hull thanks to Integrated Astromech. He flew well and I got a little aggressive with Elec Baffle when not necessary. Still ended up a close game as he had some good defenses and M9G8 re-rolls. I was three rounds without return fire so it was good defensive play by my opponent to still get down to Sabacc vs. Jess. Sabacc is a good finishing ship, I was able to be quite dynamic with a premaneuver and a 2k in some tight spaces to ensure that I could arc dodge and get arc. I really am liking the strikers.

Hooray for Triple T-70s! And I agree, TIE strikers are a blast!

So I've run my Dormitz, Whisper, Wampa build 8 times and against some good players in our local area, albeit, I've gotten some lucky rolls, I'm 7 and 1 (took my first loss last night) to a Howlrunner, Wampa, Tie Striker swarm. I think it has potential, especially in the Hangar bay format, I haven't flown against the big builds that I think are still in the META at this poing, Parattani or versions of it and/or Miranda.......although, I'm getting that chance soon in an upcoming squad championship, anyone got any advice on flying this build against them or in flying against Miranda/TLTs in general, uggghhh!
