I've been wondering that a lot lately. Jess is fantastic, but she's very much a Biggs in this list. It's possible I'm not flying it great, but I don't usually get more than 3-5 Swarm Leader shots with her before she dies, and seldom are they with two additional dice. There's not a lot of room for a fully-kitted ace with three GSPs, but I'm thinking about combining my wookie ideas with the GSPs. These could all fly independently. I could even use the wookie as a blocker at times and still probably have a shot with his 180 arc. Blocking with Jess was usually a bad idea..not so much with the wookie. Like with the wookie thread, there are a lot of little tweaks which can be done to that ship alone.

I don't see any reason whatsoever for predator over swarm leader for as long as those As are using juke. Predator will give you one extra reroll each shot. Swarm leader is likely to give you at least an extra red die each shot.

I think the lack of a k on the auzituck will hurt you.

Jess "being Biggs" is beneficial. If your opponent flies through the teeth of your list to attack a ship with defensive rerolls... That's a good start of a game for you.

Attack shuttles should be used more in these lists. It has a natural evade and a tlt on Ezra offers a lot of flexibility post joust.

I don't necessarily disagree with you, that's why we've been running swarm leader in the first place. The problem with Swarm Leader on a wookie is you don't have a way to reroll unlike Jess, so you're still beholden to dice variance if you blank out a lot. Also, getting those extra red dice isn't as easy as you might think. The GSPs are often forced to K-turn or make turns which end up without shots, which means no evade available for Swarm Leader.

Maybe, it remains to be seen. Like with the triple wookie lists, it is something which can be worked around with different approach vectors. I think putting the GSPs in positions to punish movement behind the wookie is possible.

I agree. She just dies so often that it does leave me wondering if there's a more survivable option that wouldn't hurt the damage output that much.

I agree with this, too. JaceDK had one in his original list. I just don't like the compromises I have to make to get it to fit.

11 turns average game lenght, getting swarm off 3-4 times is pretty solid.

I find Jess has some kind of luck about her. The re-rolls on defense usually come up in her favor. I also have found that she usually gets to use Swarm leader ability 3-4 times with 4-6 dice each time.

Hmm...yeah, maybe it's not really a "problem", then. I do think the wookie needs to be put on the table, though. I just hate not having a reroll with a Swarm Leader shot...

Right, but that's only more reliable dice for her attack. What if just about the whole squad has a more reliable attack with focus tokens getting tossed around? During the defender meta, I feel you'd really need her highly modded 4-6 die attack. Now?...maybe not as much.

I've thought about Tactician over Rey, but I think the wookie really have to have mods available at all costs.

I got to play today against Rac (Palp/Kylo), Wampa and Lt Colzet. We kind of countered each other in that I could melt RAC quickly, but he could pop GSPs once per turn. I knew if I allowed all of his ships to focus fire on the GSPs, I'd be down to the lone wookie before i knew it and would lose. Not to go too far into the batrep, but I basically went after Wampa then Colzet, allowing RAC to kind of overshoot the fray. I did take Wampa and Colzet out with RAC at full and 1 damage on each GSP under shields and the wookie only having lost a shield. While I whittled RAC down, he popped a GSP per turn, so it ended up being the wookie (almost full) vs. RAC at about half hull. I forgot to pull a focus off Rey at least 3 times in a row, while allowed RAC to live at least 2-3 turns longer than he should have. Eventually he got stuck in a corner and flew off the board with 1 hull remaining, but not before the wookie was down to 4 hull.

It's only one game against more of a funsie shenanigans list, but I did like it. It felt like it did more damage than with Jess. The wookie 180 arc is fine, arguably preferable to Jess. I'm going to keep trying it.

Wookies don't have native target lock...but...holy ****. Targeting computer on the wookie? That's getting it pretty **** expensive at 36 points if I keep Rey, but...that would be a real horror to deal with. To do that, I'd either have to drop the Jukes down the Crackshots or drop AT on another GSP, neither of which do I want to have happen.

I think I'm going to keep it as is for now and see how it does over a span of 5-7 games.

Er...okay, maybe this thread needs to get back on topic.

Went 2W 3L at a tournament over the weekend with the stress/ion Y-Wing. would have been 0-5 without auto-thrusters.

game 1` - 3 TLT Agressors + OL. OL decided it would be smart to fly into R1 of the formation, she dead. Came down to Jess and an A-Wing with Jess at full health and A-Wing missing shields. was a very fun game. I've played against him a lot so we know how each other works.

game 2 - Nym/Sol - I got tabled. made a terrible mistake turn 3, then couldn't recover from it. I tried to bait and switch on him, but it didn't work. got shields off on Nym, but thats it. at this point I started drinking.

game 3 - Dash/Miranda - I got tabled again! I turned hard back around to get Miranda, he obviously didn't understand the list, so he Slammed right into R1 of my fleet and I got her down to 3 hull on turn 3! Two thermal detonators, a bump that didn't work out (he decided to hit the rock instead of getting bumped). After that I tried chasing Miranda, didn't work, so I turned on Dash too late, 1 shield away from half points. Miranda down 1 one hull, but ended the round with 3 shields. frustrating loss.

Game 4 - Chopper/Biggs - I was worried about this one because it is generally a bad matchup. Autothrusters MVP tho! I can't believe he allowed it... but once I saw Jess starting to die I started using her to block the ghost, she lived at 1hp for half the game, and my a-Wings! so I kept getting the ghost to ram Jess, get snapped by the A-Wings, which prevented the whole Biggs Mechanic from taking effect. I used the Y-wing to ion the Ghost (didn't stress it) to lineup the kill shot, then solo'd biggs with the Y-Wing once I got behind him and had him iod. two A-Wings took down the shuttle, but not before the shuttle killed the Y and Jess.

Game 5 - Miranda/Rex/Intensity Sabine - this sabine shuttle build is pretty cool with TLT/Intensity/RecSpec. Very hard to hit and lock down. I got her double stressed with the Y-Wing, but never hit with the Ion. Y-Wing died in 1 round of defensive fire later. I got half points on Dash, Rex down to 1 hull, but couldn't finish him off. Sabine down to 2 hull. I know, focus fire... but it wasn't going my way. We both played like idiots, but 5 beers + 5 rounds of X-Wing will do that.

Ion, while a great idea in practice, only effective if it actually hits! Since I have no dice modifiers I kept rolling average (focus/hit/blank) and that just is not enough to get that ion token down on anything thats not a Ghost or Decimator.

With G4H coming out this week, I am taking a break from the A-Wings for a while. I'm A-wing'd out, starting to get into a loosing streak and been on bottom tables the last few tournaments. So I'm taking the next two weeks off from playing competitive, going to do a little Aturi, and then when Q4 kits drop get going again with the new waves.

@Wiredin - ****. Well, I guess it's not surprising to struggle against the bombing lists. I guess game 5 was really Dash/Rex/Sabine?

lol yup, dash rex sabine

the sol/nym list I've beat before, that exact player too. but I got out of position really badly on turn 3 and it cost me the game, combat didn't even start yet.
