Am I reading the Countdown change correctly?

By Audio Weasel, in X-Wing

It looks to me like she now doesn't take ions from cannons or missiles, can't set off the chain reaction from assault missiles or ion torpedoes, and never loses Stealth Device. Can that be right? If so, what happens if Blount shoots at her?

Blount still hits. Stealth device is an interesting point though...

still vulnerable to being shot multiple times since you can't use the ability for every shot

Ah, indeed. Once per round, pretty much.

Countdown didn't actually change, all that you posted was already true. It is just a clarification that that is how it works.

Which means that gunner goes through him like butter.

Well, he can still try to only take one damage like everyone else. But yeah, gunner is definitely a danger to him.

It's not an errata otherwise it would be out front. Instead it is a clarification. So yes put Stealth Device on him. You will never lose it, unless you meet Lt. Blount.

Bombs should still effect him? Would they trigger loss of stealth device?

Bombs don't trigger stealth loss, they're not attacks by game rules

As mentioned before, bombs are not an attack so they don't technically "hit" anything. They just deal damage.

Thus hit is different from damage much in the same way suffering damage is diffrent than dealing damage. Take a look at Lt. Blount. He always hits even when he doesn't do damage.

Or, you know, you get hit by multiple attacks in one round and countdowns ability only works once...

Second shot a round is still normal, so you can strip a stealth device or ion-- it's just harder. Expect we'll see Countdown more now, though.

Yes, there are multiple ways to get around countdown's ability, that's why he hasn't been nerfed.

Countdown hates tlt's..

This is what happens when Blount shoots at Countdown https://onsizzle.com/i/spear-and-shield-this-is-the-strongest-and-nothing-can-2781531

Eh, he's not gotten any better as a result of this, it's a clarification, not a change. He's still solid, but he's still very vulnerable to a lot of things that are in the meta right now, in particular stress imposition, TLTs, Gunner, bombs. And he's not that hot a closer because he doesn't hit all that hard.

The disadvantage is that Countdown triggers gunner when using her ability

More or less. It means you should only use the ability against 3 incoming hits, which you will be able to reduce to 2. If that kills you you can still try to get lucky. the ability doesn't work well against Gunner, but it still isn't useless and will increase your durability anyways.

Admiral, can you or another threader explain to me the FAQ where it effects Countdown. This FAQ is a heavy read and I'm a bit lost in this detail........thx!

It basicaly says that when you use Countdowns ability to cancel all of your opponents hits, then suffer one damage, that attack counts as missed, therefor allowing the use of (for example) Gunner by your opponent.

It doesn't. Nothing has changed about Countdown.

They've clarified that his ability makes the attack it's used against miss, but that was always written on the card anyway.

OK, so no change. I guess some people didn't understand what "cancel all dice" means then. I guess it was quite an issue at some tournaments I guess. Well then, that was the tiny part of this hard-hitting FAQ then. Thanks guys!
