So this hyuge FAQ and no buff to R3 Astro?

By Gibbilo, in X-Wing

wtf?!?!?!?

At least turn him into rebel /x7.....seeing how we hard errat'd so much text already.....

There's a lot of bad upgrades in this game, you're not going to see them all brought up.

There's like five broken builds, tops. On the other hand, there's probably 50+ underpowered cards; much easier to beef everththkbg that needs a nerf than buff everything that needs a buff.

They will almost never touch cards that are known to be weak. In fact, they have even more rarely altered card text to make a card better. They have occasionally changed some interactions that resulted in cards improving here or there, but do not expect them to take a card and directly improve its text.

Time to go back to my loved 6 Zs, Torkix Mul list.

This one weird trick to make Horton great.

Heavy Scyk title says hello. Also Proximity Mines didn't used to detonate if the manuver template overlapped, but the ship base did not.

It's super rare, but it does happen.

And Cluster Mines used to do nothing on a crit result, back in the day.

I've actually had great fun with Horton in Furballs. R2-D6, Wired, TLT. Do a 3-turn on the first round, then have unlimited rerolls on attacks and rerolls on defensive eyeballs.

Post-errata Heavy Scyk wants to say hello, but he just ran over some post-errata Cluster Mines (or a post-errata Proximity Mine, if you prefer.)

Too be fair, most of us forgot R3 was even a card.

Heavy Scyk and cluster mines buff still gives me hope. Come on FFG, make it happen. I have four of the darn things!

· R7-T1
E-Wing Expansion Pack

Action: Choose an enemy ship at Range 1-2. If you are inside that ship's firing arc, you may acquire a target lock on that ship. Then, you may perform a free boost action.

Should now read:

· R7-T1
E-Wing Expansion Pack

At the start of the combat phase, choose an enemy ship inside your firing arc, you may acquire a target lock on that ship. Then, you may perform a free boost action.

Suddenly, low PS Y-Wings would have the ability to get TL and Focus on the same round, enabling them maybe become torpedo boats. Or X-Wings might be more of an actual attack platform. E-Wings would get a lot more maneuverable.

I'm just glad M9-G8 was clarified for snap shot. Nobody believed me when I told them it should work...

Tonight I'm bringing a nerf gun to my league and shooting every Pap, X7, Zuckuss and manaroo I see.

Those few cards were dominating the top tables at recent tournaments which reduced variety and led to an increase in Netlisting. Nerfing them should allow more variety of builds into the game at the top level which is a good thing.

R3 is rubbish but then so are plenty of other cards. The Scyck fix was needed because the entire ship was pretty useless. Cluster Mines seems an odd one out. My guess is that the original print was incorrect and they always intended crits to apply but that is speculation on my part.

Heavy Scyk wasn't a weak card so much as it was a weak SHIP. They touch those all the time.

Weak CARDS tend not to get buffs. Expose has been terrible since wave 1 and they haven't touched it. Quite frequently there are new interactions that enliven old cards though - e.g. what's happened with Countermeasures coming back into the meta.

R3 probably just remains terrible though.

FFG as a company has a policy against errata and it's fairly awkward for them to do.

The fact that FFG just dropped a quadruple heavy errata on four cards shows they felt it was absolutely necessary.

I can just imagine the absolute **** storm post-faq with Imperial and Scum nerfs alongside Rebel buffs. Actually I think the boards would have been even MORE entertaining if that had happened.

Often nerfing the obviously overused cards causes the lesser cards to pop up. Not saying R3 will magically become awesome as is but a lot of other cards might.

Be surprised if they buff any card outside clarifying timing windows.

I've ran this before:

32 points - Gold Squadron Y-wing:

Bomb loadout, extra munitions, Cluster Mines, R7-T1, Autoblaster Turret, Experimental interface

Its pretty fun. You fly into their arc, use R7-T1 to get a target lock and to boost out of their arc, then you drop cluster mines on them with EI. Hopefully after they move you get a TL'd autoblaster turret shot on them. It almost mimics the K-wing advanced slam. Although K-wings are the better platform, I did this because I only own 1 K-wing and wanted a couple bombers in the same list.

R3 astromech, x/7 redux:

After you perform a speed 1 maneuver, you may assign one focus token to your ship.

Also make it the first upgrade to have its cost changed... to -2. :P

If it were a 1 or 2 speed manuver, it would be really good on basically every ship that can take it. And wouldn't make Corran or Poe better, as they both vastly prefer regen.

Man, I would love it if FFG just went errata crazy. There are so many cards that need help. I wouldn't mind 10 extra FAQ pages if it meant dead cards had reason to be used.

In general, weak cards don't get buffed as it is easier to simply release a more effective card. Yes R3 sucks but it doesn't matter too much as there are plenty of good astromechs to choose from. Ships that are weak get buff cards (Chaardan, /x7, /E2 etc).

Cluster Mines still seem to be the odd-one-out in getting a straight-up buff.
