Next hero releases?

By ellhaynes, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

So, to try and control my impatience at the lack of IA news, I started to think about what type of heroes we might see in the next box release.

it obviously will depend heavily on the box size (small = 2, large = 3), but it's still nice to hear from others possible ideas or gaps in the current line up.

Some thoughts from me:

- we might see another Jedi type although I'm not sure it will be with this release; but could we see a force sensitive user who isn't specifically a Jedi? Rogue one has now followed the force awakens by introducing this concept.

- I suspect one hero will be human; all of the jabbas realm releases were very heavily slanted towards non-humans.

- are we due a zabrak or devaronian? Or possibly a bith? Those are the other "major" non-humans I can think of that haven't been covered so far, and I think it's too early to do another Wookiee, or Aqualish, or rodian, etc.

- another droid possibly? Only one so far, and a rather specific type at that. It would be great to get an astromech hero!

- dear oh dear - would we see an ewok hero if it's an endor themed set....

- jabbas realm introduced three combat-oreintated heroes, so it would be nice to see at least one who excelled in a different way - such as a force user, or a droid.

-could we see an imperial deserter? Another recently introduced concept, what with Finn, but also with the characters in the Aftermath trilogy and the Lost Stars book.

I'm sure others have better ideas, but good to get some completely unnecessary speculation going!

It'll be interesting to see where they go from here.

I'd be more interested to see how they get a new archetype without stepping on any of the existing hero niche's we've got.

Something that has a droid as a companion (similar to say the necromancer from Descent)

Maybe an explosives expert? (I'm looking at you mister Bith with the bandolier of explosives)

Race wise, I think we've got plenty of unexplored races that could easily appear. Bith, Devaronian, Zabrak, Sullustan, Ewok (unlikely),

I'd really like to see a deserter too, although Biv was one so that may be too close to him.

I expect, from a Small Box, two heroes. 1 likely to be human, the other to be alien. One primarily support, one primarily combat oriented.

A sullustan, of course, both as a major non-human not yet covered and the link to Nien numb (2nd half of RoTJ).

The companion concept is interesting but somehow I feel it's already covered by being able to win units as allies in side missions.

Bith grenadier sounds cool!

Nice thoughts! I've wondering this as well (and am equally impatient!)

I'm not expecting another Jedi type, at least not yet. I do think it'd be cool if we got a sort of magic user, though- maybe a Zabrak?

I think a human and non-human is probably a good guess.

Like I said earlier, I think a Zabrak is very possible.

A few other possible races I think might work-

Sullustan- pretty famous, and would be a nice nod to Nien Nub, if the pack is Endor

Kaminoan- Their minis would be very impressive, and could have an interesting sort of "redemption" backstory

Clawdite- could make for some interesting "stealth" abilities

Nautolans- Inherent ability to ignore difficult terrain restrictions?

Utapauans- These guys creep me out- but they could make for an interesting table presence

Dugs- Another interesting mini- don't know much about the species and how it'd play, though

Togruta/Twi'lek Male- We already have Diala, who might be similar enough to both- but maybe these could be interesting

Gungan- How fun would it be to always blame the character playing the Gungan when stuff goes wrong?

Toydarian- Inherent ability to ignore obstructed terrain?

Quarren/Duros/Gran/Ishi Tib- Pretty iconic, as well

I get the appeal, as they're so iconic, but I think I like how astromechs are either allies (R2, Chopper, BT-1) or companions. For a droid, maybe a hacked battle droid? Would be a nice nod to K2SO, also.

I really, really hope not. Also, seems unlikely, despite many people predicting it. We didn't get a Jawa or Tusken Raider hero in Twin Shadows or Jabba's Realm. no Ugnaught hero in TBG, and (for better or for worse) no Wampa or Tauntaun hero in RtH. The Imperial player typically gets the local stuff. The Rebels usually get something symbolic of the area or its place in the story. For instance, with TBG we got a diplomat (sort of a nod to Lando) and a Jedi (likely because of the iconic Cloud City duel). With Jabba's Realm we got more merc centered heroes- and also, heroes that mirrored three pretty iconic scum units (a Mandalorian for Boba Fett, an Aqualish for Ponda, and a Rodian for Greedo) If anything, I'd imagine that a Sullustan is most likely, as I said earlier- a way to pay homage to Nien.

I've mentioned before on these forums that I like the idea of a "hacker" hero who could manipulate enemy vehicles and droids- performing test that could even cause droids to malfunction and attack the Empire.

It was also a pretty common theme for several Rogue One characters. I'd like to have something like that- though, I think it's heavily implied that Biv was once a stormtrooper under Kayn.

But yeah, I'm really looking forward to new heroes. As of right now, it might be what I'm most excited for with the smallbox. Hopefully we'll have more info soon!

Took forever for me to type that, a few new replies since I started

I REALLY like that idea.

I also like this idea. Maybe it could be combined with hacker archetype?

For example, hero who sends his small droid to do 'hacking stuff'

This deal's getting better all the time

Yes, a hero with a companion off the start would be pretty cool, with XP abilities boosting both the hero and the companion in various ways.

It would would be interesting to see a hero with a large figure base (probably E-web sized, though Nexu base size would be fun as hell).

For a 2x1 we could get a gungan riding a kaadu.

Or maybe a vratix for a 4x4 (don't know if that would be too big, though).

Same goes for a gigoran.

A Thisspiasian would be cool.

Of those, I think the only one I could possibly want is the Gigoran...

Yeah, I think he'd be my top pick (though I wouldn't mind a kaadu, too.

Only thing is, I don't know if a gigoran would be all that much bigger than Onar, who's a single tile size.

I had that thought too. Although, if you compare Ponda Baba to Luke in ANH (for aqualish vs humanoid sizes), and then say the Gigoran in Rogue One to any of the humanoids in that, there is a significant height difference.

I'm just not sure that would translate to a larger base... Look at the size of the Wookies we already have

I think that large base is more unwieldy, and FFG tries to stay 'player friendly' on that regard

I think that's probably true.

Though it's be interesting to see a single character whose larger base is both a blessing and a curse, much like Onar's health boost but lack of defense.

This character would be able to block choke points better and could even provide cover for friendly troops, but at the price of being less maneuverable and a bigger target.

at least, FFG could give us ally with a base of 2x2, if not regular hero.

You know, that might be a better option. Part of the issue with stuff like mounted heroes at least (tauntauns, kaadus, speeders, etc) is that heroes carry over mission to mission and it would seem silly at some point. Like, "we get it Gungan hero, you rode your kaadu in the forest during the last mission and it was a good call- but now we're on a freighter, would you mind getting off it at least once?"

With allies, it would at least have the illusion of being more situational, and less like the hero's butt was stuck to their mount.

I'd be surprised to see any large base hero, certainly for the foreseeable future.

Descent has, what, nearly 60 heroes or something? And they've never tried it there. There is one mounted hero but the movement rules are a bit quirky and it just doesn't really work.

I like the idea of the large hero if they can make it work. Perhaps he or she could be "mobile" to help things along. Personally, I really liked the book Battlefront Twilight Company and I think Gadren would be an awesome ally or a good model for a hero.

I've wanted a Besalisk hero for a long time! I think there's a lot of room for fun/thematic abilities for them. Four arms would make for some really interesting possibilities!

As to a mounted hero, I think it'd be cool to have one hero that has a mounted figure and unmounted figure. They could only use their mount on missions with outdoor tiles and they could have abilities that worked always and then on the bottom had a spot for "if mounted" then this is also available kind of thing.

I totally agree about the multiple arms. How about a 4 xp card:

ARMED AND DANGEROUS:

Passive effect: you may bring 3 weapons into any mission. (two provided with base character)

Double special action (and maybe using strain): Perform an attack with each of your weapons.

(or maybe these are his base skills on the Hero Card with an xp card to get a fourth weapon)

I think the figure would be the size of the Wampa

Speaking of species- are there any species that we really don't think could ever be Rebel heroes?

Obviously there's the sedentary stuff and non-sentients like the sarlaac pit or a rancor.

I also think that the hive mind type of thing with Geonosians would make them less likely to be candidates.

Also, I'd say Chiss aren't as likely, given their association with the Empire among fans- though they'd work perfectly for a "Imperial Defectors" themed expansion as some have predicted.

I'd say Ortolans are probably too... rotund, but I'd love to have one anyway!

Grans seem to be always placed on the side of Imperial/merc. They seem to be "bad guys" in every video game I can think of. But I think we definitely need a Gran somewhere.

Deveronians

We never see Gungans past the point of Episode III. I think Palpatine wiped them out of spite for messing up his original machinations at Naboo.

The remastered Episode 6 shows a shot of Naboo with a Gungan shouting "wesa free!"

Also is there any reason to suspect that Palaptine actually cared about what happened on Naboo after triggering the vote for chancellor?

With a 2x1, we'll get an Ewok on a speeder bike.
