Alchemical Problems IC RPG thread

"Great shot, Astrid! You saved us! My hero and you really deserve your rank and reputation! Now, let's head toward the screaming and find what we can to silence their anguish."

Edited by Cartergame

(Bennar, Ensnare does this: A weapon with Ensnare binds a foe and restricts his movements. When Ensnare is triggered, the target is immobilized (see page 223) for a number of rounds equal to the weapon’s Ensnare rating. An Ensnared target may attempt a Hard Athletics check as his action on his turn to break free from the effect. (An immobilized target cannot perform maneuvers.) The monster is pinned down for hopefully 3 or more rounds or until it breaks free... giving us a chance to sprint for the Cathedral...)

Yorik led the others into the terrifying building as quickly and as carefully as possible in order to do no harm to any of the beings seemingly fused to the walls of the cathedral. It was all he could do to not throw up inside his armor and helmet.

The cathedral issues a continuous scream, from the agonized faces of which the walls are formed. Undeviating, but impossible to push to the back of the mind like white noise.

Do you know what horrors lie beyond that wall..? Then you go first.

Astrid feels a revulsion akin to that produced by the grimoire on Tython, intensified a thousandfold, as she follows Yorik.

the walls breath and as the party moves, the screaming seems to be muffled... as you enter what could be called a reception area... a creature pulls itself out of the walls "hungerrr...... Fooooooood..... Bloooood, flesh... MoooooReeeeeee....."

its followed by several others... oddly they don't attack....

Astrid starts, as some of the constituents of the living.. ( undead.. ?) wall extract themselves, and step forth. The incessant screaming is somewhat muted in the foyer, and she takes the relative calm to collect herself and observe their new environs.

What are these unfortunate creatures.. and why are they not attacking..?

Having become accustomed to such strange occurrences, she nevertheless checks the new display in her goggles, for the presence of hallucinogenic gases.

Astrid watches the creatures closely, to see which way they go.. which is exactly what we're supposed to do, of course...

( the goggles show they are alive.. if have very odd readings)

they just seem to amble around smelling as they go, if they bump into you they seem to just wander off, however they do start to merge together if they touch.

there's at least 10 now... and... you hear footsteps squelching towards you

Unless you'd care to be a part of this ravenous assimilation, I suggest we don't tarry.. Astrid's whispering into her comlink trails off, with the sickly wet sound of footfalls approaching.

Can I reach the archway, before it arrives..? Acting swiftly, Astrid dashes toward the the wall flanking the entryway from whence the ominous footsteps are coming, narrowly avoiding a conglomerate of the disturbing wall creatures as she goes. I don't think it saw me..? Astrid's hackles rise, as she feels the wall's breath upon her neck. She draws the forcesaber in her offhand, hoping she does not need to ignite the archaic weapon just yet...

( you can)

"Holy Frell..." Yorik whispered disgustedly while suppressing every instinct to just open full autofire.

"Somebody tell me why we can't just drop an asteroid on this entire frelling planet and help it start over again? The amount of perversion and willful evil necessary to create this place is cause for it as far as I'm concerned.

"Shard, make sure a vid of this place gets back to the mainstream feeds so the Powers that Be can use it to justify their latest war. Unbelievable... This is some frelled up sith right here."

He kept pace with Astrid and lengthened his stride.

So long as we're planetside, I'm hoping they have something other than an asteroid strike in mind.. and I doubt I'd be on civil terms with the Archaeological Association, following involvement in such destruction.. still waiting for the fallout if I'm somehow linked to the incident on Tython.. wonder if anything survived..?

Astrid is pulled back to the present, as the squelching draws near...

Aye zips along following above their heads letting them know the ambient humidity levels are above average, and the current positions of threats ( what would he see? @April )

Shard scrambles along following Astrid. He's got his hands over his ears.

Frelling noise is horrid!

I don't know if an asteroid would be enough to cleanse the evil from this place...

"But it's a good start..." Yorik said only halfway joking. Now, that the thought had taken root, it was something he wanted to explore. Astrid may not approve but it was at least worth a debate.

"I bet we could get a mining vessel and tow one of those giant planetoid asteroids that they harvest for minerals and ice. We come in and drop from hyperspace right before we pass through the system. That way, the velocity would be so fast and the object's mass would be so massive that by the time they realized what happened it would be too late to stop it from hitting.

"It's no Death Star but I bet it would still work. What do you guys think? Technically, we do have the rank of colonels so I'm thinking we could make this happen.

"Please, sell me on one redeeming feature or reason to not nuke this place. Frell this entire planet."

Ayes infrared sensors become overloaded by the amount of life, he reports multiple life signs everywhere.

That familiar voice you've all come to hate starts singing a tune " Children come to the Cathedral of flesh....... soon they will bow before the Galaxy's new Gods!!!!, ... All will be flesh or part of the machine...."

It seems the thing that sent you here has changed sides

" Bow and live..... please playthings... Bow and live...I do so hate to break toys "

We've been played, again.. still.. we're going about this the wrong way.

An idea occurs to Astrid, from the unlikeliest of sources: a children's story.

Zyi. Fancy slicing a god? With your latest upgrade, you may just be our last, best hope.. What this thing needs is a Conscience.. think you could upload such a virus? On the fly..?

Uh... Well uh...I'm not sure. Novel approach to our problem though doc.

Zyi is a bit dumb struck by the idea.

We'd have to get very close, can't see any other way but a direct hardware patch-in. How are we gonna do that without being stomped out?

Yorik stopped in his tracks. "That's brilliant, Doc!"

In his mind, he reached out to the Leper King, I hope you'll still be willing to help us end this threat once asks for all.

" get me close... " is all he answers in return....

Kull is now quite close, his head twisted an unnatural way...... " YOU BROUGHT HIM HERE!!!!!! " A lightsabre ignites, it burns the air around leaving an acrid smell

" CRUSH THE SKULL AND LIVE...... OR BECOME A PUPPET OF THE MASTERS!"

( @TheShard don't fail any hacks here because you might have to use a destiny point)

Yorik fired with Confidence before slinging his weapon around and igniting his own Lightsaber...

Kull deflected the shots but at least they knew where he was.

I must have actually just proposed that over the com.. I don't know about brilliant.. but they didn't immediately dismiss it as mad...

Astrid checks the new HUD in her goggles again, confirming the continued absence of mind-altering substances.. and realizes she's wearing her mask, in any case.

Zyi is the most compassionate soul I know. If anyone can code empathy into this machine-god, he can.. shots fired.. Yorik..

Astrid takes careful aim with her lancer, and hits Kull's latest host, but...

the shots ring at kull, and while he deflects the first few, most find their way home... he falls to his knees blood spilling from his mouth....

a strange smile escapes from his mouth as he falls to the ground.

(oh darn... i failed every roll spectacularly)

so now the protozombies, just collapse.. as if their strings have been cut

Zyi takes a chip from the back of his head and plugs into his pad and furiously starts programming; the blinking lights on his brain implant go wild.

He pauses for a moment processing Aye's data, Switch to motion sensors as your primary targeting mode please.

Speaking of conscience, and compassion.. We have killed another host, and let Kull slip away.

Astrid crouches next to the body, sensing for a lingering presence or fleeting glimpse into their adversary's psyche, before Kull is lost to them.

can you make a force resist test?

(Well, crap.. Discipline (Willpower)? Is the Booster from Bennar still in effect? Would the device Zyi crafted be of any help? What would the opposing dice be?)
