Alchemical Problems IC RPG thread

By April, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Astrid is happy to follow Bennar's lead, here at the Citadel. A tour!

Captivated by the ancient armour.. unholy concoctions.. why, that's our speciality! Might be a bit late to the party, for this one, though..

Indeed, it would seem that some genetic fiddling had divided the clan into a distinct warrior caste.. and the rest..?

(Astrid remains silent, but can she make a check to read the code, or make out any other details in the room?)

then you auto-pass, just don't start waving it about, you will need to check if you open your bag though.

The guard looks at the blade and simply nods " come... This One is to show you around before you Speak.. You may keep your weapons.. save the rocket launcher. But we ask you Do not disturb any training..." she looks at Bennar.

you note that there is a lot of hight/muscle mass disparity in the people you walk past ( how observant are you to your guide?)

" you take responsibility for the actions of the outsiders... yes?... They might not understand things and attempt to interact with perceived threats"

at first, you are brought to a plinth... it has shards of a suit of armour " This was the remains of the Clan Founder Varn Klorthan " he sought to augment people via some kind of unholy concoction.... it has left us as you see... "

" Tell Me, What does the code say on this? "

as she says this several others snap and look directly at you. It is a test.

Ah, clan politics again. My companions respect our ways, and will not knowingly interfere with the regular operations of the citadel. Hopefully that was diplomatic enough, while allowing a touch of leeway should someone start something with us. It's not typically a good sign when that's one of the first things they say. The code does not directly comment on physical augmentation, though we are expected to train to be prepared to fight for the Mand'alor when needed. To some, scientific or spiritual augmentations are as natural in preparing for battle as running is to an athlete preparing for a race. This concoction, as you say, was the way Varn Klorthan contributed to the welfare of this clan. Observing the people around him for a moment, Bennar asks a question of his host. Would you say his contribution fulfilled its purpose? It would appear that there was a lasting physical effect.

She Nods... But says nothing in response ( she is wearing a helmet so you cant tell if she accepted it or what)

others seem to go back to work, but you note that there are some looks towards you.

It's simply a name, an epithet, and a set of dates ( which you gather he was about 56 when he died )

next, she brings you to a circle where two individuals are engaged in a grappling match. " Our Clan settles Disputes by Arbitration, however when tempers flair we engage in a simple non-lethal Pindown, Tell Me this " A person takes another's Pistol, which is obviously theft. However, the pistol was Booby trapped and by taking the pistol they saved the Individuals life... Should the Person face punishment? "

This question seems twisted; key points are left out. However, I have a feeling that is on purpose so I will answer with incomplete facts. A Mandalorian would not easily allow another to modify his own weapon in such a way, which means that the first person originally stole the modified weapon, and most likely the second person was taking back his own property, which is not theft. It would not be uncommon for a Mandalorian to modify his own weapon in a way to make it unusable to others. In a fight against a single or small group of opponents, if he is disarmed then his own weapon cannot be used against him. In a full scale battle a modification like that is less likely as you would want a comrade to be able to use your weapon should you fall. It's been awhile since I was in a grappling match. The larger fighter isn't quite using his size to his full advantage. I bet the smaller one ends up winning.

again she simply nods...

the Smaller fighter does pin the larger one.. they both laugh and go off as two new fighters enter the ring. she leads you to another area

you stand before a stylized mural, of Mandalore resplendent in a rather... obscure pose.. it almost looks like that he is taken as some kind of savior with several arms grasping for him as he holds a spear, rather than an inspiration as most Clans believe, again a small plaque...

" the Clans Disagree on How Mandalore should be viewed, some Consider him an inspiration, others a curse we should bare.. a Firebreak if you will... Some as pictured here have other ideas. "

"What do you think of this piece?, Is art and building a waste for a Mandalorian? or is it another battle? "

are you observing anything, do you want too?, are you simply following the guide.

(Is zyi with you guys at this point?)

you should all be together

Zyi whispers into Astrid's ear, What's all this ritual mumbo jumbo? Its bizarre when societies hold onto things way past the point of usefulness or long after they have forgotten its reason for being...

(Sure, should I do a Perception or Knowledge: Warefare check perhaps to see if I know anything about this particular clan or the Mandlore being discussed? I'm not very good at Perception, but have decent warfare. What would the difficulty be?)

Bennar ponders the mural for a moment before responding to the guide. Art is not a waste for the Mandalorians. It is simply another way to develop one's focus and discipline. I guarantee it took the architects and artists just as long to create this as it did for a commander to plan out an ambush. In times of peace, art or another type of study can be a way to stay sharp in preparation for when that peace time ends. I would not say it should take one away from preparing for a battle or staying physically ready, but there is not always an imminent battle looming. Easy to say, but considering the last few months of fighting perhaps not so easy to live out.

"I'll venture an answer to this, if I may..? Civilizations, systems of government.. religions.. wax and wane, come and go. It is said that the Force itself ebbs and flows. Art is not permanent, but it can often transcend the transience of that which it represents."

"..is it a waste..or is it another battle..?"

"I am not especially familiar with Mandalorian culture, but I would consider the art of Sabine Wren to have been valuable in the battle against the Empire. There is a power in art."

Yorik had remained silent for most of this time. He quietly but carefully observed as much as he could of all the nuances of the Mandalorian culture he was being exposed to. He knew well their reputation as warriors and wanted to see for himself much of what had been rumored. However, this line of conversation was very familiar to him and he couldn't help but speak out regarding an old Dantooine saying.

"On Dantooine, we have a saying about this sort of thing exactly. The true warrior needs to master the bow and the horse as well as the brush and the word. One must have not only focus and discipline to be a great leader but also imagination and oration in order to inspire others and to express oneself. Not all Combat takes place on the plains.

Remember, Battlefields can be found inside as well as outside the walls...”

( give me a perception roll, hard so 4 purples, also you probably are a bit distracted so take 1 black also)

the guide simply nods at your answers but again remains silent.. she takes you upstairs ... then you see a lone figure sitting in a hover chair, the figure is unarmoured... hes old, but not augmented. no abnormal the old man is simply looking at the world go buy

" When a warrior ceases to be able to hold a blade in combat his worth is useless... thus said Mandalore the furious " the guide says " but the code simply say's we should care for family so... Is this one a burden? "

(Eh I'm not good at perception, but here goes!)

Perception : 2eA+4eD+1eS 0 successes, 3 threat

(Guess I don't notice anything specifically, hopefully the threat doesn't hurt us too bad)

While he may not be useful in combat directly, it is wrong to limit the definition of usefulness only to active duty. The Mandalore was a bit short-sighted in that statement. This man's mind can still be used to advise strategy; his experience can guide the young to avoid common mistakes or learn valuable lessons much quicker than experience alone will teach them. As a trainer, he could be very useful to society for decades after his body is over it's prime. Past that, the value his family places on him will give him worth even as his mind deteriorates, should he should be unfortunate to outlive his mind as well as his body.

Look at Dr. Mando overhere...

Hey Astrid, what's up with the Doc and this warrior cult mumbo jumbo, seems awfully cozy with this shizz... I mean your Doc... Frak you know what I mean...

"I never really delved too deeply into Mandalorian studies, or modern art.. but I did dorm with an art student who was obsessed with Wren's work." Astrid joins Zyi in whispered conversation, in the otherwise somber setting, further reminding her of her days spent at university lectures. "The mere suggestion of geronticide is repugnant. If this is a test, I shudder to think what they are testing for.. And I don't shudder, easily."

" And what of this man, he is not a Mandalorian... He was our enemy... But we care for him as one of our own... For even If one has defeated you... they are worthy of respect"

she looks at Shard and Astrid... " This Mumbo Jumbo... as you put it... Has enabled us to go from a people who were led by a person... who sought to Turn all the women into his Harem and the men into Basically Brutish Blanks... But more importantly through Queen Alsaria we do this.... "

shield lowers showing wards of patients being cured... hundreds of patients... treated by both Mandalorians and others...

" a battle Against Illness is the greatest War we have ever fought... And if we win think of the Glory... the respect... Yes, this is truly a battle Worthy of Any Calling themselves a Manalorian.."

Well no disrespect, but that might be helpful to lead with... the whole helping the ill stuff before killing the old guy stuff, yah know just a suggestion...

Zyi says with a smile.

**** good hearing!

" We did not expect you to understand... regardless... there are those here who would consider your statements a direct challenge to their honor... Mind your self here "

Oh, good. More Mandalorian hauteur. And Zyi responds so well to condescension.. Me, too, for that matter.

"We are quite used to minding ourselves." Often, to our peril.. "You have impressed upon us this altruistic aspect of your Queen Alsaria, unexpected in a Warqueen. Perhaps you might deliver us to her presence, forthwith, where she can judge us for herself?"

" You already Have "

she clicks a button and her Armour retracts.. revealing a face with glowing Tattoos

" im guessing you wonder why You were invited... Simply put we are dieing... It seems that our former Clan Leader.... Well his deal will Ultimately cost us our lives... We traced the Alchemist Here... But he is in the employ of a person you are already Familiar with... Brulak the Hutt"

Yorik was quite surprised and found himself with his mouth agape. Realizing he was staring, he closed his mouth and smiled at the queen before bowing in respect.

"Your Highness, it is quite an unexpected pleasure to make your acquaintance. So, you believe that this Alchemist has the answer to the genetic modifications made to you. Are you proposing that we approach the Alchemist as a neutral party and buy an antidote for your predicament or would you rather that we surreptitiously retrieve him from the safety of Brulak's compound while providing your Clan with plausible deniability?"

Of course she's the queen...

"Why, your Highness.. Alchemical Problems are our particular speciality."

Well.. Mine is embarrassing myself in front of strong women..

"We are honored to assist you in this."

(wow, you deserve XP for that... LOLOLOL ROFLMAO!)
