Clues from 'Rebels' [Minor spoilers]

By ceejlekabeejle, in Star Wars: Armada

Lots of exciting stuff in this week's Rebels for Armada players - we meet Mon Mothma and Dutch Vander, we see both Gold Squadron and the prototype TIE Defender in action, there's a transport that I'm not sure I've ever come across (looks like a small Assault Frigate but without the bit sticking out of the bottom), and, most interestingly, we see a full Rebel fleet come together. There's even a fight in a nebula. Happy days!

I took a screenshot of the moment the fleet comes together for your inspection.

There's nothing there that I wouldn't expect to see, based on what we have - lots of Corvettes, some Nebulons, a GR90 transport and an MC80. I would say, however, that this lends some probability to what we'll see in future wabes - there is no shortage of Hammerheads, and the Quasar Fire being a prominent ship I think is quite suggestive.I also wonder if the transport we saw (sorry, didn't get a screenshot...) might turn up as a future flotilla? It wasn't much bigger than the Ghost, so probably wouldn't be a full sized ship. I wouldn't be averse to new flotillas, if they brought in new dynamics, or were simply different from the ones we have.

Hope you'll agree, very tantalising!

At least you can see 4 Hammerhead. Maybe 3 of them they got from Leia.

And maybe the Quasar Fire they stole earlier.

The rest are 4 5 Nebulon B, 8 CR90, 2 Transports, 1 MC80.
At least there are no new ships.

And we know what ships might be in Wave 6 ;).
Quasar Fire and Hammerhead.

Actually I can see five of them, one straight in the middle showing only the front hull. Probably "Salvation":D

The rebels cartoon is really starting to add a lot of background fluff that supports Armada and Imperial assault, and in future maybe even more than the massive shot in the arm to enjoyment of both systems that Rogue One gave me.

Still happy to miss out X-wing though. Random dogfights just seem to lack the connection to the wider story that fleet engagements and the commando raids of the IA campaigns give me.

Did anyone else think the MC80 was a bit small? It looks that way in this shot, but could be placed further in the back, but they also showed another view of when it just jumped from hyperspace next to a Neb, and it looks smaller than the Neb.

Good point. Missed this one

That transport with fins on the side looks to be the same model that got wrecked by TIE Interceptors during the blockade episode.

They re-cannonized the Quasar Fire Bulk Cruiser? sweet, yeah, that'd be a great addition as a carrier for the Imperial side, question is would it be a small base, or just barely squeak into Mid-base class

I think the re-canonized version is larger than the original, but I could be wrong.

I was also just doing it in a relative size comparison to the ships in SW Rebels. That and I just now got schooled on what the actual base sizes are. judging by the pic though, it's 4-5 times fatter than the Corellian Corvette, which would put it somewhere between Phoenix Home, and Victory in Armada scale

Best comparison I think is these two images. About the same size as phoenix home, just wider.

So then, same base as PH. Boy, I can say It's a design that is both beautiful and ugly at the same time. Would love for it to be added to Armada, sounds like it'd fill a good niche.

Yea the Imps need a good light carrier.

That quasar carrrier traingle thing looks good.

Perhaps we can see the Venator as more of a true capital ship then.

Really really surprised we see the Tie Defender before the Xwing shows up in rebels.

It is just a prototype

Surely it's quite a bit bigger than Phoenix Home, if the Ghost can fit inside one of the hangars of the quasar fire, yet has to dock externally onto the Pelta. Just with a ruler and my rubbish PC screen, and using the Ghost for scale, it looks like the Pelta is roughly four times the span of the Ghost, where the Quasar fire is roughly nine times?

My guess would be that a big part of the season 4 storyline is acquiring the X-Wing

This is what I was about to suggest - my guess is that the X wing will be the answer to the Defender, coming in to save the day just when the Rebels look outgunned. In fact, Filoni has suggested precisely that in an interview.

It's not in keeping with legend (Defenders were the Empire's response to Yavin), but it'd make sense given their earlier introduction in the series.

Well the distance of the ghost is off between the two images. However the ghost is at an angle in the Quasar. The Pelta looks roughly 6 ghosts across while the Quasar looks about 7-8. But the Pelta is beefier. I just think the quasar is slightly bigger than a pelta. Probably smaller than a glad.

In the pic in the OP, the Quasar is much wider than the MC80 too. I think they got all the proportions off.

This doesn't prove anything. In the OP pic, the Quasar is over twice the width of the MC80, and the Neb next to it is taller. So either the proportions are off or that's not an MC80. Here is an MC80, likely Home One from RotJ. It is massive compared to the Neb.

Now, even if the MC80 is placed further in the back ground, it should be much larger. We know that it is near the middle of the fleet because they show a side shot of it dropping in from hyperspace.

I'm pretty sure Disney just goofed all the sizes of the ships.
