I will be going to Hoth Open, with the missus :-). Some random info about me:

• I will be taking a list involving Vader and Whisper, but not sure what else yet (still umming and ahhhing)
• Mrs will be bringing Dengar and Boba
• We are travelling from HONG KONG - can anybody beat a 15 hr flight for distance travelled to the event?
• This is our first X-Wing event :-), first time to Adepticon (and actually first time to US at all, except for a one week business trip 8 yrs ago) and playing on Thursday
• We are so confident of failing miserably I have booked us into the EPIC doubles event on the Saturday too

So... who else will be there ??

Also - do any locals have good recommendations of cool "touristy" stuff to do whilst in Chicago ?

If you like museums there are a couple great ones in Chicago, and the Shed Aquarium. The field museum has Sue, the largest and most complete T-Rex skeleton, and the museum of science and industry has the U-505 submarine.

I don't know if it'll be warm enough to enjoy Navy Pier but that's a thing to do there, Willis Tower/Sears tower is a thing to see also. Gino's East is a good Chicago Style Deep Dish pizza place, and if you like baseball they are probably doing tours of Wrigley field.

I cant make any of the system opens myself unfortunately, even the really close Chicago one. Couldn't get any of those days off work.

I'll be going as well. Still undecided as to what squad I'll be flying but I think I have it narrowed down to 3 different squads all of which I feel comfortable flying at this point. I'm not sure how other system open events handled the playmat situation but a friend found this yesterday off of the Adepticon FB page so I'm excited that everyone has a chance at getting one not just top qualifiers.

Rogue Leader to Echo Base: Hoth Playmats at AdeptiCon!

There’s not enough life on these exclusive Hoth playmats to fill a space cruiser! But you may be skilled (or lucky enough) to get one anyways.

One question has remained, how would the exclusive Hoth Open mats be distributed?

These cool mats will be awarded at the Hoth Open System Series X-Wing Tournament as follows:

First, at each round of the event, 10 player names will be drawn randomly and these lucky nerf-herders will take home one of the coolest terrain mats in the system. 70 will be awarded on Day 1A, 70 on Day 1B, and 20 on Day 2.

Secondly, each talented pilot who wins all seven rounds on their Day 1 will be awarded a playmat.

Additional playmats will be awarded throughout the event at the discretion of the organizers. These may be handed out for innovative squadron creation, custom painted ships, or sportsmanship above and beyond the typical congeniality of the tournament.

A player can receive one playmat maximum.

So aim for that power generator and you just may find yourself escaping the system with a new playmat!

Sounds good... hoping they give one for "furthest travelled". Might get that one.

After a lot of umming and aaaring I will be taking Vader + 2 ties (a la New Hope) and Whisper.

I'll be there...scoping things out on Thursday and playing on Friday.

Vader: ATC, Swarm Leader

Whisper: VI, ACD, FCS, Kylo

2 x Academy Ties

Kylo on Whisper is great, and the double 4-5 dice threat works really well.

Played 7 list types I'd never played before... so it was fun and a good learning curve. I didn't play vs a single defender or Fenn Rau !!! Suck it meta :-)

Lost games to a Ghost + double tie stress list (got range control wrong and navigator + bumping chopper destroyed me), and a well flown bombing Miranda (also had biggs and stresshog but Miranda killed everything)

I beat 4 Y TLTs, a couple of non-meta scum lists, Super Dash+Miranda, and Quickdraw/Echo/Omega L
