A better X-Wing mold?

By Destraa, in Star Wars: Armada Painting and Modification

I peroused Mel's and was hoping to find a better X-Wing mold, but alas saw none. Anyone know of any 3D prints to replace the lackluster molds we have for armada?

Not 3-D printed models, but I should have the parts I need to mod the rebellion board game X-wings onto armada stands in about a week. I will try to post a description of how the process went, and some pics.

How many X-Wings come in Rebellion? Any chance you could do just a loose comparison shot of the two X-Wing molds? Thanks!

I have one already.

So yes, X-Wings in rebellion are bigger and more detailed.

However, you only get 8, I believe. (12 Ys, 8 Xs, 6 Snowspeeders)

The Flotillas however, are less detailed, as shown above.

The Y-Wings in comparison are identically detailed - someone just scaled up the 3D model used to master them, essentially - the Y-Wing in Rebellion even has a superfelous circular section underneath where the Armada Round-Squadron Peg would have mounted....

I searched ebay to get the 4 Rebellion X's that I currently have. Not too expensive, about $0.75-$1.00 US per fighter. But I'll only be using them to replace one fighter from each ace stand.

Currently, I'm trying to find a good solution to the squadron peg, as it seems to be 2mm, and I'm having a hard time sourcing that size. (Yes, yes, if I lived in a civilized country, we'd use metric.) I have a 3/32 plastic tube that will fit after a little sanding down, but I have to fill the interior of the tube if I want to attach a pin to it. Oh, and I have to file the top end of the rod to fit between the engines on the underside of the X-wing.

Here are two pre-paint photos of the prototypes.
