Painting Daqan Lords army

By Hos, in Runewars Miniatures Game

Hi there, new to the lore of Terrinoth and thinking about painting my upcoming Daqan Lords army ....

1. do the Daqan Lords minis have to be painted primarily blue, are there factions or chapters within the Daqan with different color schemes?

2. is it ok to freelance, ie paint up in any color scheme eg Black Templars color in 40K

1. No.

2. Yes.

While they don't have to be painted any particular color, it seems like the Daqan kingdom goes for blue and gold primarily.

The blue and gold is the color for the citadel I think?

Regardless, Paint them however you dang well please. If you like the fluff and paint scheme of the examples go for it. If you want them to be from a different barony or city, or even a different timeline in the fluff go for it. It's all good.

in 40k I went for an "official" army in the ultramarines because I liked them. In WFB I created my own barony and paint scheme in middenland complete with maps and family trees of the major noble families. I love both collections. It's all good!

I haven't decided myself how I'm going to paint my Daqans. I actually like the blue and gold but after painting scores and scores of ultramarines for 40k I want to do something different I think.

I'm going to paint my Daqan in plastic grey.

Waiqar all the way!

If you do go it alone I recommend a limited colour palette.

I always like to suggest you follow the colours of you favourite football team, as the colours they wear are designed to have someone sitting quite far away still recognise who is on which team.

In terms of a colour wheel, you are looking for two/three colours on opposite sides. Yellow/Blue, Green/Red or Orange Violet. For three colours, Red/Green/Blue or Blue Violet/Orange/Yellow Green.

I am thinking of Red/Silver for my guys. Which is close to Read and White.

i was thinking of doing my rune golems in a lightish grey with red runes and onyx swords

I plan to paint mine like the Boros guild faction from the ravnica block of Magic. GuildImage_Boros_01.jpgTajic-Blade-of-the-Legion-1.jpg

Daqan is a kingdom, it seems, in only the loosest sense.

The actual king is long gone, LotR style, and the kingdom is ruled by a whole series of Lords. (At least this is what I've gathered)

I'd imagine that within Daqan you would find all manner of color combinations and styles.

Blue/Yellow is, comparatively, the Ultramarine paint scheme of Terrinoth. Generic, but not required. Almost anything would mesh with what lore exists.

Yes, the different baronies and free cities leaves open a lot of customization for the Daqan.

And similarly, lots of customization for Waiqar.

He uses the same "spirits" for his skeletal hosts but the actual bones would be risen from warriors from all over Terrinoth.

While I suspect most will go for uniform color schemes it would be a chance to tweak your friend's nose by adding reanimates with his regiment colors on them when you keep beating him....

I'm doing purple and yellow like my old Ex Illis army

When something has an illustrated card or similar that's used during play, I like to try to stick to that color scheme for the sake of consistency. Besides, I do find the ones we've seen so far appealing (and in case of the carrion worm considerably more so than the cover art, although I don't exactly dislike that one either).

I've painted my (smallish) share of miniatures but never yet an actual army. But since the point's been raised: I like the color scheme and the lore/values of the Ultramarines most of all, so if I were to ever get some Imperial Space Marines, why not paint them like that? Specially with the currently ongoing galactic shakeup. Similarly, I just love to hate the Word Bearers, so to speak. For Tau and Tyranids, however, no official color scheme I am aware of quite hits the sweet spot for me (although some do come close) and lore-wise I don't feel particularly beholden to any subfaction, either, so I'd go with my own for those two. Utterly undecided on Eldar and Orks to be honest. (Similar goes for the above's various - some more, some less close - WFB/T9A counterparts.) I'd kind of like to have armies of Mantic's (space) dwarves and elves; would definitely color those four my own way. And for Firestorm Armada and Firestorm Planetfall I'd probably stick with the official color schemes of factions I like (although not necessarily slavishly so down to the exact hues). That's about it for skirmish or larger level games that interest me.

In these parts around here, we mix things up a lot. It's not unusual for us to have a Civil War, with Human vs. Human, or Undead on Undead. So I'm thinking about painting the Daqan forces silver and black, just so they don't get mixed up with my buddies blue and gold, when we both play the same faction. For there must be a Baron or two out there who's lust for power is making him slip towards the... Dark Side.

In Disk Wars, set during the Uthuk invasion, when Daqan was just a knight and not yet King, there was a Baron who fell to the dark side. His barony of Tamar decided that the reason why they were losing to the Uthuk is because they weren't willing to fight dirty and viciously, so they decided to throw aside chivalry and do whatever it took to win, even courting the Ynfernael for power.

Obviously Llovar and the Uthuk were defeated before such extremes were needed, but I am thinking of fashioning my army after adherents to that philosophy. They'll be militant and furious that lazy and soft Barons let the Uthuk repopulate, or Waiqar go for centuries without being destroyed.

If eventually they get a hero that lets them take a unit of demons that will probably come out with the Uthuk all the better...

I'm going to invert the colour scheme and paint the Daqan purple and the Waiqar blue. This will confuse my opponents and enable me to WIN muhahahaha!

Personally I'm leaning towards black and gold/bronze armor and purple accents like cloaks and tunics for my Daqan, go for a praetorian guard look.

And yes, I am aware that that isn't what the praetorians actually wore, I blame Ridley Scott.

I'm gonna do black and white. Going for a 'Teutonic' look.

So I noticed in the Beasts of War unboxing that the Daqan Spearmen shield does not have any detail on the shield face. Are any of you thinking about shield decals instead of trying to free hand a design on each shield?

If yes what decals are you looking at?

I was thinking to make stencils with my logo and spray paint them on so that they looked a little rushed, like the daqan are just trying to get them armed and in the field.

As im doing teutonic, i'll just be doing that black cross i think... but i will probably also do some checkered designs too. Especially 2x2 since the daqan symbol has that going on sometimes.

That sounds great! I dont have the patience to paint white after doing stormtroopers for IA. (12 normal + Kayne Somos + 4 Heavy + 6 Jet troopers)

For me maybe black and gold with red accents? Or black and red with gold accents? #UBERALLES

Or maybe Purple and gold? #WOOF

Green and Gold? #BRINGEMBACK

Rave Green and blue? #SSFC

Action Green and dark blue? #GoHawks

Or maybe Teal and Navy with silver accents? #TruetotheBlue

Maybe I'll make my Waiqar #GoHawks
:D

Going deep red (Khorne Red spray) and highlighted black for armor / trim with vibrant ice blue weapon blades.

Desert crackle-putty (easy and non-distracting) for bases. Not getting ballast or flock in those holes.

I'll use the GW glowing effects paint for the red inside the Rune Golems, etc.
