adding squadron mount to rebellion x-wing

By Baltanok, in Star Wars: Armada Painting and Modification

OK, so I was thinking that the nice X-wing sculpt from rebellion would make a great model for making aces pop a bit more. But they don't have the pin to fit into a squadron tree.

Any suggestions on how to attach one? My first thought would be to borrow a page from Dras's Lambda shuttle, and add a pin in to the underside. Another option would be to snip the mounting peg off another squad, and glue it onto the underside.

Just starting out painting & modding here, so may be biting off more than I can chew.

Whatever you choose to mount to the underside to be a peg, that will HAVE to be pinned in to have ANY stability and strength. Superglue just otherwise lacks the tensile strength on its own without a "Bone".

I'd (personally) use PVC Tube - check out a local Hobby/Railroad store for what Plastruct has on hand - take a tee stand with you, find the diameter you need, and then Pin that Sucker in.

The Y's at least have a nice flat circular area to mount on, too.

thanks, Dras! you are both prompt & helpful, as usual.

12 gage copper wire works great for damaged ship peg replacements, I assume you could use it for squadrons as well.

Utar had squadron pegs available on Shapeways, i dont know if they are still there. I picked up a set and love them.
