Anyone else love Lt. Lorrir?

@Marinealver I can't disagree with your assessment, but I think you're missing the draw of pilots like Lorrir. He gets to do something that no other pilot in the game can do, and to me, that's fun .

For better chances against good pilots, sure - for the same(ish) points, take Omega Leader, VI Duchess, or Tomax with just crackshot.

Clearly, Soontir and Jax are a lot better, but they take up 1/3 of your points. Lorrir comfortably sits nicely in a 4 ship list, while a superior Interceptor ace requires sacrificing ship quality in a 4 ship list, and also usually want additional Palpatine support in order to warrant the point cost. If your opponent focuses Lorrir down, you still have 75 points of ships to fly around.

Anyways, if your goal is to simply win, don't fly Lorrir. But if you want to do something sweet and have fun while doing so, that's where Lorrir shines.

The two lists I'm mulling through now (thanks for all the input everyone!):

  • Kylo Ren + VI, Advanced Sensors, Ops Specialist, Intel Agent (42)
  • Lt. Lorrir + Autothrusters
  • Black Squadron Pilot + Snap Shot (16)
  • Youngster + Snap Shot (17)

-Tries to use Intel Agent to line up snap shots to distribute focuses, advanced sensors lets Kylo coordinate + bump to retain shots

  • Commander Alozen + Tie/x1, Sensor Jammer, Prockets, Crack Shot, Chips (29) (my favorite Alozen build!)
  • Lt. Lorrir + Autothrusters (25)
  • Countdown + Ailerons (20)
  • Gamma Squadron Veteran + Tie Shuttle, Kylo Ren, Ops Specialist, Crack Shot (26)

-All ps5s, try to leverage ops spec to divvy focuses, if they ever get into range 1 of Alozen = DEAD. (very high likelihood of 5 hits + crackshot!)

I see where you are getting at but then again loosing every match is no fun.

That being said Lt. Lorrir has IMHO one of the best pilot abilities in the game. Thing is Lt. Lorrir has the dubious honor of being an example on how the best pilot ability can not fix an overall broken ship (especially when there are no options to build it) For example Take Biggs Darklighter, if you were to swap pilot abilities, would that make Lorrir Better? It would make Biggs Awesome but then again you would have to equip vectored thrusters as Biggs doesn't have a barrel roll naturally, but poor lorrir would be worse for wear.

It's a real shame because now no other pilot can have Lorrir's ability. either Lorrir finds himself in a new ship or anotehr pilto comes along that has something similar to Lorrir but probably better as it will come without the stress token.

I have flown Lorrir quite a bit in a 5 ship list, and I quite enjoyed it! He definitely likes to have a shuttle passing him tokens though, that is something I haven't used yet. I like the Darth Vader actions at PS9 though, that's cool!

Interceptors can't live in arcs and without boost and barrel roll, in a single turn, interceptor flying is even more strict and unforgiving than it already is.

Would you take an EPT that allows his ability as Soontir or Jax?

I'm thinking many would at least try on Soonts because it generates stress which gives him a token and he gets to do it at PS 9. Is it as good as PTL? Probably not.

Jax? Maybe. But, again, is it better than PTL or VI?

It was great fun when he first dropped but Imperial Aces was about 9 months late and everything but Royal Guard title and Jax was already DOA. The game had moved past it then and it has certainly moved past it now.

I like the idea of his ability granting him a focus (or even an evade) and that might make him see a little play at least. Of course an EPT so he could at least take VI, outmaneuver, or wired would also help but the ability errata seems even better.

When you say, "everything" are you referring to the pilots? Because Opportunist has remained competitive in several situations. When Imperial Aces first dropped, I had a lot of success with:

Soontir Fel (Push the Limit, Targeting Computer, Royal Guard TIE, Shield Upgrade)
Lieutenant Lorrir
Saber Sq. Pilot (Opportunist)
Backstabber

That Opportunist did some work back when people were still figuring out the card. He fired last, so enemy ships had to think really hard about spending the focus token either on offense or defense. Some opponents would gun him down first, anticipating his dangerous ability, but that meant the others stuck around to do some damage.

Can we all agree that the biggest oversight in this FAQ was that they did not change Lt. Lorrir? They straight up rewrote 4 cards! Can't they spare a little love for the good Lieutenant?

Opportunist has done some work. It's certainly niche. I had forgot it was part of Aces but compared to most options, even at the time, I wouldn't have considered it COMPETATIVE.

If we can make this an "underappreciated Squints" thread:

Turr Phennir PS7. "After you perform an attack, you may perform a free boost or barrel roll action."

So you attack at PS7, perform a boost or BR action, then PTL and.... Yeah. Shenanigans for dayz.

I aleays gave him VI and Targeting Computer. Run into someone's Face, TL, smash stuff, then get out of arc for no return fire. So much fun to pull off.

When flown right Turr is an end game BEAST cause you likely will never get to shoot him. Much funz

I know! I mean, they've already got his card in there anyways... what's the harm in adding a little text?
