The rest of wave 1 announced

By FatherTurin, in Runewars Miniatures Game

Oh, I think Whats-His-Face the wizard can cav up with Carrion Lancers, so he's probably good there, but with magic powers, a player may want him to skirt melee and just run him out on his own.

Otherwise, Carrion Lancers behave a lot like cavalry in terms of their movement, toughness, and damage output. So I don't see a "cavalry gap" for Waiqar the same way I see a "shooting gap" for Daqans.

Judging from past experience, FFG will never release Elves. ;)

They've already stated that the Latari are going to be released in this game, not implied, not hinted. They have stated it will happen, and I don't think I've seen them go back on something they've announced will happen yet. They never told us we'd get Latari for battle lore, no matter how much we've wanted it, but they have said we will get them in rune war, so rest assured you ll see them.

As far as future expansions, I think we see new Daqan and Waiqar units at GenCon to be released in December. We'll also find out how new factions will be introduced (army pack vs. 2nd core) at GenCon and see those released a year from now.

My preference, however, would be to see the new factions introduced by year's end.

@Willange If the foot version was just for insertion I don't think they'd give the heros the extra base. How often has FFG given us components with no purpose, I mean other than the tie punisher.

Hahahaha good point! Just because of tie punisher, im going to assume you are correct :P

However, it wouldnt be a wasted try since the heroes are on a separate try from the infanty. They take up 4 slots

Do we know that for sure yet?

Ummmmm, we might not. I've just been assuming they would kinda like a rune golem. I suppose they may not though. I guess we may just find out on that later.

Whether they do by the rule book or not, it seems like it might be easy to fake it if you just want the tray for the sake of filling space.

just start with your character on its own tray and then once you've suffered three casualties from the back ranks, replace the hero's single model tray with a 4 model tray, and fill it in with the removed casailties.

This probably isn't cool to do in tournaments, and some players might not like the aesthetic, but from a purely gaming point of view, there's no reason not to do this and save some $$.

Hope it comes with a dial for each though... would be irritating to have to buy a separate dial if we want to field the golems all individually.

It would seem to me to be logical to include a dial for each tray in an expansion.

Well, (at least so far) infantry and cavalry units have a minimum size of two and are sold in packs of two, so no need for more than one dial in most expansions.

I think at this point we should really be hoping that the Core comes with an extra dial for Reanimates and Spearmen, and that the Rune Golem and Carrion Lancer expansions come with two dials. I doubt we are going to see extra dials in the Reanimate or Spearmen Expansions. From what we have seen of demo package reveals however, I think we are just going to have infantry with one dial.

@Elliphino Based on what I mapped out for the Carrion Lancer command dial, I see it working a bit differently than cavalry. Its going to be more of a slithering, lunging movement versus the amazing rapid movements and fast charges of cavalry. I can see an all-cavalry army being a nasty list to face in the near future. Carrion Lancer is going to be one of those units that everyone piles hate on because they don't understand how to work it in the near future, and then its going to clean house at some tournament and everyone is going to hop on and finally learn how to use (probably after Wave 1 though).

Ha! For sure :-)

By the way, on the Rafpark blog there's only 8 dials in his pictures. That's not definitive, but he seemed pretty thorough in his pictures.

I really hope 2 things happen:

1. Each unit comes with enough dials for its least common denominator

and

2. The next wave expands the game with a new core that features elves and orcs.

Its going to be Uthuk not orcs. Also how would you feel about army starters instead of a core, providing they come with templates, dice, etc.?

I think I would love an army starter for each faction after we see uthuk v latari as a core.

I am still very disappointed that only two factions will be available at launch.

I think it will really hurt them in the short term. They are really going to have to push this game to get people to play until the faction they want comes out.

I know personally Im not going to buy anything until the Elves are released.

I think we might see the first elf release at gencon.

I'd be tempted not to buy in until the Uthuk Y'llan if not for Waiqar being my second choice and Daqan probably being my friends choice. It'll take a lot for any of us to be interested in the Elves though.

Unfortunately my significant other probably won't be buying until the elves come out as well.

I'm interested to see what happens at GAMA. Maybe faction reveals with them going on sale at gencon?

Sorry not familiar with Terinoth enough to know the difference between Uthuk and orcs.

I wouldnt be opposed to an Army starter box if it had equivalent units to the core set's units i.e. 1 hero, 1 infantry, and 1 unique(golem/lancer), and 1 "special"(cavalry/archery) unit.

uthuk are half demon humans, orcs are well orcs but if i recall they are a nomadic people (dont quote me on that)

Good to know... I saw someone describe them as orcs on another forum and assumed they were correct. Guess not...

playstyle wise the uthuk are close to what most people consider "orc like" super agressive, sacrifice their own units, maybe a touch of a randomness that other armies lack.

Uthuk are a bit more "dark elf" than Orc. But much different than Darl Elf if that makes sense

Orcs seem to be more bumbling and silly than Uthuk, though I think both are vicious in battle. I would explain the Uthuk Y'llan as being blood-thirsty, demon-tainted, human barbarians.
