Yeah you're right.
My bad.
Somehow I thought they only came with Champion, Musician and Standard Bearer ... forgot about the Mage component.
5 hours ago, Dosiere said:Yeah I noticed that as well, but only one dial pictured.
Still, it would mean being able to use 2 individually with another embedded in a unit with the core set.
That could be. Insert one golem / worm in a unit and have 2 spare golems with the one coming from base game. But I prefer to have all individually.
5 hours ago, DrCthulhu said:Hope it comes with a dial for each though... would be irritating to have to buy a separate dial if we want to field the golems all individually.
It would seem to me to be logical to include a dial for each tray in an expansion.
Logical is not always the chosen option. About buying a spare dial, who is going to sell one?
This is making it so hard to decide what to do for a collection. Carrion Lancers are so far my favorite model in the game, but I really like some of the synergies I see with Daqan Lords. And of course, I've got some great painting ideas for both factions. Now the allure of necromantic Magic is added to Waiqar, but the 2 trays per box of Rune Golems and Spearmen gives me some good ideas for a Daqan army... What to do, what to do?
As far as FFG is showing us more and more, I'm getting more nervous about the cards. So many of them are not restricted to a hero or faction. Do you think FFG is going to respect to not publish any cards useful for one faction on the other?
So the Waiqar hero isn't Vorakesh after all. That was unexpected.

thanks for your job by the way :-)
Observations:
Coreset
200
Expansions
Daqan:
Oathsworn Calvary x3: 74.85
Rune Golems x3: 104.85
Daqan Infantry Upgrade x2: 49.9
Daqan Spearmen x2: 49.9
Lord Hawthorne: 24.95
Waiqar:
Reanimate Archers x4: 99.8
Reanimate Infantry Upgrade x2: 49.9
Reanimates x2: 49.9
Carrion Lancers x3: 104.85
Ankaur Maro: 24.95
Dual Core Plus Daqan: 504.45
Dual Core Plus Waiqar: 529.4
Everything: 833.85
This isn't efficient and I don't suggest it. This is for maximum combinations/skew.
Oathsworn Calvary an extra box is bought so you can run it in max formation with out attaching a command expansion(unannounced or unknown if it will come.) or Lord Hawthorne(If he can, I suspect he can.) An extra Rune Golem box just incase you are in situation where you want to run a full Daqan spearmen formation with FLRG and a full formation of rune golems! Double Infantry upgrades if the 3 by 2 formation of spearmen is really strong in multiples( I think it might.) Same reason for the duel Spearmen box.
Reanimate Archers has a full extra formation, which is probably the most excessive purchase but also probably the strongest with out any table time. Reanimate Archers are really strong and if you could screen 2 full formations effectively, it would be pretty terrifying I think. Double command so you can run duel 3x2 formations as well. The Two reanimate trays so you can run the full formation of reanimates as well as duel 3x2. 3 Boxs of lancers so you can run a full formation unit and a support lancer in the reanimates.
So lets do an actual realistic purchase list:
Coreset
200
Expansions
Daqan: 194.65
Oathsworn Calvary x2: 49.9
Rune Golems x2: 69.9
Daqan Infantry Upgrade x1: 24.95
Daqan Spearmen x1: 24.95
Lord Hawthorne: 24.95
Waiqar: 194.65
Reanimate Archers x1: 24.95
Reanimate Infantry Upgrade x1: 24.95
Reanimates x2: 49.9
Carrion Lancers x2: 69.9
Ankaur Maro: 24.95
Dual Core Plus Daqan: 394.65
Dual Core Plus Waiqar: 394.65
Everything: 589.3
You might buy a bit more then this, maybe another infantry command box/spearmen formation for the Daqan, and maybe another full formation of Waiqar. It should be said, in the skope of the game even this is a lot and well beyond what you need to play at 200 points.
The upgrade cards seem quite hard to tell if there will be new cards available for both factions in just one factions packaging. Look at the cards, Daqan only have one unit that gets the weaved symbol, the oathsworn calvary, and if there is a discrepancy somewhere I expect it to be there.
@Obscene this assuming buying both factions lets take your first estimate and assume you split a core instead of buying 2 and you pick one faction. Thats 329.40 at most. One hundred when the core comes out at the end of march, then 230 in lets say july. To put it in time perspective that os 100 a month or 25 a week. Then you are set until the next wave comes out. It is currently 18weeks until July first including today so if you start saving now you'll have 100 before April first. And another 350 by July 1st. The qustion now is do you have $25 a week in discretionary income?
It is interesting that both the Rune golem and the Carrion lancer come with three siege upgrade cards anyone care to speculate?
I'm thinking one copy of FLRG\support carrion lancer and 2 copies of the other ability (stun for rune golem and surge ability for lancers).
Here are some cards:
Lord Hawthorne:
Double Surge for an inspiration token
Can make another melee attack against a target that hasn't already been attacked by him.
His Skill abillity gives each other ally at range 1-3(5?) an inspiration token.
Ankaur Maro:
Double surge to remove `1 wound on his ranged attack. The number of white die he rolls is equal to red runes. 0/2/4
Skill ability adds up to green runes full trays to a waiqar infantry unit. Suffer as many wounds as trays added.
Item Cards:
The Dawnblade: for every surge spent deal damage equal to your threat to a melee target
The Duskblade: Double surge to reduce defense by 1
Dispatch Runner: Hard to make out but it looks like it allows an ally in range to perform a ranged attack?
Fire Rune: I can't make out some key parts of the card but it looks like you perform an attack with 1 red die which its threat is equal to the red runes available.
4 hours ago, Budgernaut said:So the Waiqar hero isn't Vorakesh after all. That was unexpected.
Especially when one of the guys at GenCon showing off the models stated that it was Vorakesh!
@Obscene Fire rune: *skill* perform a ranged attack rolling 1 red die. Each *hit* causes the defender to suffer damage equal to *red runes* instead of your threat.

Don't forget to check the daqan article for better and updated unit card pics. I just looked up the spearmen for another thread and through the glare it looked like they were to trays for 11 when the article shows 18.
So what do you guys think will be the next expansion? The new factions or perhaps some archers for Daqan and cavalry for Waiqar?
I guess this is a good starting point to introduce the new factions. Then after introducing the 4 factions each 2-4 months should appear one vox for each faction.
17 hours ago, DrCthulhu said:Y'know... I was originally gonna stick with Daqan (those Golems just so sexy) but the pics of the Reanimates really look great. Ankar Mauro looks cool too. Now I can't decide. Maybe I'll wait until I've got the core in hand and have played a couple games as each side before deciding.
I'm in a similar boat. First I was al about the undead. Then I loved the look of the Rune Golems and the other Daqan units, combined with the ability to integrate the other army I know I want (the Elves). Then I saw the new heroes and the undead one is soooo cool. Especially compared to Grumpy McHugesword over there.
so...I don't know.
Btw, is the mounted undead hero a different sculpt than what was shown at gencon? Maybe just painted differently? I can't find the pics now but I thought the bone horror thing didn't have all the magic swoosh...things and was just all bone and had a different head.

he always had the glowy magic, thats one of the things i really loved about the model.

Yes, I will do that. I've been waiting to have time to make significant updates to the site. I'm in the process of doing those today, and I'll also be going back to improve older stuff while I'm at it.
Apologies in advance if this has been brought up elsewhere already:
I think Lord Hawthorne and Ankaur Maro are only usable as an independent unit in one of their 2 models. They only preview 1 unit card and, while each card's artwork would seem to show them on foot, the cards have cavalry icons. I'm wondering if the foot variants are only for their 'upgrade versions' to integrate them into other squads. I'm not sure of this, so I wanted to see what you all thought was likely. These spreads might not show every component (although they usually seem to for armada and xwing even if most are facedown). When we find out for certain one way or the other, then I will reflect this information on the wiki appropriately. It could also be that their unique 'feather crown' upgrades could dictate foot vs. mounted for the independent unit versions of the heroes.
They have two champion upgrade cards visible in the picture, I would think it's a cavalry and infantry upgrade.

I think they either go to the new factions or, just as likely, release a few neutral or mercenary units like they did in BattleLore with the razor wings, Giant, and Dragon.
There seems to be a gap for Daqans in the ranged attack components, but that could be fixed with wizards, Kari, Kari's "elf detachment" or neutral/mercenary unit. I'm thinking from a marketing perspective, it makes more sense to drive players towards existing products that suit their needs, rather than creating a new, more niche product. It's brilliant, really, the thing with Kari's elf unit. They'll have Daqan players buying a few elf expansions, and then what the heck, you're just a few units away from having a whole elf army, so why not just spend a little more?

Judging from past experience, FFG will never release Elves. ![]()
