Expansion Predictions: 2017 edition

Are Reek's the same-ish size as Dewbacks? Just curious if someone knows.

Reeks looks a litle bit bigger to me.

Yeah. I don't think Obi Wan and Anakin would fit quite as comfortable on a dewback, though I'm sure there's some fanfics out there where they're snuggled up on one together.

I'd imagine a Reek might actually need a 2x2. Not too crazy, since the Nexu utilizes a 2x2, and the Reek is definitely bigger than a nexu.

Had a thought last night-

I may have said this before, but the blisters in Heart of the Empire feel more like a themed blister wave than packs released alongside a big box expansion. We get three themed unique units (much like Wave 7), no Imperial Officer villain, and no Rebel non-uniques. If this is to become the new standard for boxed releases (and it's certainly not bad, as there are so many unique characters to draw from still without adding bloat by bringing in more officer villains) do we think further Skirmish Waves are going to focus far more on... well, Skirmish?

By this I mean 2 things:

1) Do we think that the contents of these waves will be more Skirmish related? Take Wave 7 vs Wave 9, for instance. Wave 7 included, much to players' delights, some useful campaign items like new lightsabers and such. Wave 9 included Skirmish upgrades, but not a whole lot for the campaign stuff, outside of the obvious.

2) Do we think that these skirmish waves will bring in units that can help address issues in the Meta, rather than strictly trying to be a Star Wars checklist? For instance, it's really cool to see units like Obi Wan, the Grand Inquisitor, and Vader's droids. How these units help level the meta, though... well, I'm not really sure they do. From what I can glean on these forums, it seems like currently the Hunter theme is dominating Skirmish, so in this particular instance (if Wave 11 is indeed a skirmish wave) do we think that some of those units might specifically address that concern? For instance, a merc creature that is strong but would play in lists other than hunter, or an Imperial enforcer unit with specific advantages over hunters?

Most of my other cards are posted in the "Imperial Assault Custom Cards" thread under "Painting and Modification"

I hope you share some of these in the Homebrew thread on the main IA forum.

I love the idea behind the Shadowtroopers. Here's my stab at an Elite version that is Skirmish-focused:

Cost: 12, Figure Cost: 4

Keywords: Trooper

3 Figures In Deployment Group

Health: 6, Speed: 4

Attack Dice: Blue-Green, Defense Dice: Black

Abilities

  • +1 EVADE
  • SURGE: +2 DMG
  • SURGE: +3 Accuracy
  • SURGE: Hide
  • Advanced Squad Training: When you declare an attack, if you are up to 2 spaces away from a friendly TROOPER , you may reroll one attack die.
  • Decloak: At the beginning of your activation, if you are Hidden, you may place your figure in a space up to 2 squares away.
  • => => Cloak: Move up to 2 spaces and then become Hidden.

With the free EVADE and Cloak, these figures are almost guaranteed to have 2 SURGES to use per attack, which means they get to rehide w/o the sacrifice of Cloak AND add DMG or Accuracy. Using these guys with elite Imperial Officers, Call the Vanguard, etc. would really be fun.

As for the Deployment Cost: I settled on 12 because they have so much natural defensive ability (+1 EVADE, -2 Accuracy from Hidden) and they can use Decloak basically every round past the 1st.

The Advanced Squad Training is something I think should replace Squad Training on existing deployment cards.

Does any one think it's likely that we'll see anymore "skirmish" packs that'll feature components from the expansions like the Bantha Rider did? I'd certainly like to see Imperial Engineers that use tiles from TS, and Quarren Mercenaries, and Ewok scouts that use components from JR. Ewoks could be the first neutral units, but have habitat forest!

I hope so.

I think the Return to Hoth tiles are in some serious danger of being underused outside of that campaign, and with such unique tiles, its so much more painfully obvious.

I think a tauntaun rider- of either Rebel or Imperial faction- would be a great way to bring them back just a little.

Where we stand now, what with HotE apparently coming later than we expected, I want to make a rather unorthodox prediction. Or, one that recycles some pretty common ideas into a mold that more accurately reflects our current position.

We will get the app this year (that's not the prediction, that's pretty commonly accepted now, albeit skeptically).

In addition to the app, sometime between October and December we'll get a larger than normal Reinforcement Wave. The theme of the wave will be Endor/ROTJ, since I still believe Endor isn't an ideal campaign setting despite how iconic it is.

I predict the units:

Ewoks- Rebel Allies

Speeder Bike- Imperial

4-Lom and Zuckuss- Mercenary Villains

In addition, perhaps a few of these as well:

Yoda- Rebel Ally

Rebel Pilot- Rebel Allies

Scout Trooper Snipers- Imperials

TIE Pilots (Alternatively, Inferno Squad)- Imperials

So yeah, perhaps not the most unique suggestion in form of content, but I think a large Reinforcement Wave would fit the Endor far better than a campaign.

Do you want to lock that answer? :D

In "Expansion Predictions"? Not sure you know where you are...

For real though, I think it reconciles a lot of the issues I had with an Endor box, so if we get anything Endor, I think this would be the best way to do it.
