Looking for hard counter to paritani! (Scum or imperial)

By Jpmawet, in X-Wing

Hanger bay time and I'm thinking of my second list literally just being a paritani hard counter. My main list will be rebels so it would have to be scum or imperial. Go!

When you find a hard counter to parattanni please let the rest of us know. No one seems to possess that magic bullet yet.

The whole point of Parattani is that it doesn't really rely on one element to be successful. It has a lot of different parts that all work together, none of them 100% vital but all of them adding up to create a monster. As such, you're not likely to see a hard counter to it.

The best I can think of so far is Old Teroch or Carnor Jax
Those focus tokens don't matter if I strip em / deny them!

Gunner Vader kinda sucks for Fenn. Problem being that killing Fenn doesn't really give you a win...but it's a good start.

Asajj doesn't like swarms too much. But a well-flown Fenn can mulch them...it's a tricky situation.

Anything that can DOUBLE STRESS a parattani ship, then the next one, then the next. A double-stressed parattani ship will usually be taken out of the fight for a round to deal with the stress. Single stress doesn't work. At all.

After you find it, please can you feed my unicorn.

I wouldn't call it a hard counter, but I've always done well (Winning 7-8 times out of 10 usually) with a double HWK, single Y-Wing list

Edit: Its a tough list to fly, being 2/3rds HWK, but here you go:

Palob Godalhi - Predator, 4-LOM, Moldy Crow, TLT

Torkil Mux - Dengar, TLT

Kavil - Predator, EM, Bomb Loadout, Proximity Mine, TLT, Unhinged Astromech

Paratanni's main strength is that it is diverse enough that a hard counter for the list doesn't really exist. About as close as you are going to come is a squad that can apply a lot of stress and keep a couple of ships double stressed but that's going to have it's own issues. A squad like Panic Attack (Stresshog and 3 x Tactician B-Wings) has the tools to lay down enough stress but gets outmaneuvered by Ventress and Manaroo. Their low agility lets even unmodified attacks from Manaroo still push damage through.

I think the counter to Paratanni is just to fly better.

Practice. Lots of it.

Wes Janson and Palob Godalhi can also work along those lines.

I'd say Mindlink Mana Fenn Kavil has a reasonable chance, but Parattani simply doesn't have hard counters. You can fly a list designed to combat it (Mana/Fenn/Kavil, HotCoP/Gunner/Vader RAC) that is also good against everything else, or you can outfly it comprehensively enough to obviate its action advantage.

Basically nothing else works.

The problem I see with Wes and Palob is they only remove 1 focus. Usually when shooting at a mindlink ship it has 2 or more focus tokens ;(

Easy.

Make whoever brings Paratanni bring the beer, and pick a really good one, nitro stout of some kind.

It eventually destroys the list. Trust me.

Tractor down Asajj

Slam bombs on Rau

Beware, there are many players I know who up to a certain number of beers, actually get BETTER, not worse.

Omega leader is amazing against fenn and assaj.

Also she is amazing against everything so.....always take Omega.

Fly better?

OL is amazing against Fenn OR Assaj.

Fenn AND Assaj tohgether should be able to kill her before she can kill any one of them.

Old Teroch mindlinked, or with manaroo, can practically solo Asajj. He can keep in her range 1 arcs to drop all tokens, gets an instant evade with title, and a focus from mindlink/manaroo.

Fangaroo aka OldManFenn is a good counter to Paratanni. I swap Fenn out for Ketsu + Dengar and it works just as good.

Havent played this, but RAC/Carnor seems pretty good as well.

Another Paratanni?

Although true, my point was a bit different. It's not the influence of alcohol that will reduced the list, it is the cost of supplying the pints that reduced the chances of a Meta prostitute being willing to bring the list to the mat along with gifts of lovely 53 degree Stouts in hand. I'm not bashing playing the top list, we all give it a go and love a winner, but it gets stale. As a history lesson to back my theory, we did the same thing to the pre-nerf triple toilet seat missile boats, and it quickly removed itself from play on the mats, and then removed itself from our memories.

The best I've seen, and when I say "the best I've seen", I mean I'm not even sure this is a "counter", is this-

Zertik Strom (26)
Crack Shot (1)
Accuracy Corrector (0)
TIE/x1 (0)

"Dark Curse" (16)

Carnor Jax (26)
Push the Limit (3)
Autothrusters (2)

"Omega Leader" (21)
Juke (2)
Comm Relay (3)

Total: 100

Basically, it's whole focus is focus denial (no pun intended).

Strom is probably the weak point. As a non-Vader Tie Advanced, I'm not sure he even has a place in the competitive game (sadly). You can swap him out for a Striker, and you still have a little wiggle room on upgrades. Another option is a Vader Tie Shuttle to scare Fenn even if he is only at range 3 all tokened up. Last option I would consider is just plopping a couple more Tie Fighters on the table. Best way to assure Carnor is active is going to be being able to dictate where your opponents ships land with some nice blocking.

Fair point. I wasn't thinking of the potency of the focus denial/stripping. So, not quite as useful as Old Terry and Jax. Upside to Palob is he can potentially work in a list with Old Terry to eliminate focus tokens. Poor Wes is kinda on his own in the focus stripping game for Rebels.
