Ah yes, the true measure of skill. How do you do in a mirror match and if you make that just a single X-Wing it may come down to how you deal with, or without, initiative.

Yeah, me too. I started posting it just to be an ass but after I finished typing it, I realized that it might actually be kind of fun.

Stupid but I think the real "fix" is more ships that synergies as well as paratinni, think FFG dropped the ball on the UWing would have been the perfect ship for Rebels to have a manoro like ability or giving it a unique upgrade that let's you swap a crew for an astromech on any ship with 2 crew slots, rebel only.

In the move to make the game more skill based, you actually destroy THE game. Chess is probably the most skill based game there is. And balanced. You'd be facing a mirror match every time you played. At the start at least.

Imagine all the ships with the same PS, no pilot abilities, one ept per ship and players take turns deciding what their opponent flies by what they bring to the table. A mirror match. Since all pilots have the same PS rating, players take turns moving them. Side A moves one ship then side B moves one. Initiative switches sides each turn. The game is now balanced and skill based. Exciting, huh?

Some proposed "fixes" either make a ship OP or hobble some ship in the current Meta that is viewed as OP. The designers at FFG aren't stupid. They know that some ships need a little extra love but they are dealing with a razor thin line of design. Plus they have to balance two factors: playability and, for lack of a better word, fluff.

Playability is obvious. How much of a boost is enough or too much. Integrated Astromech was a nice nudge but to many, not enough. Should X-wings be able to go one-on-one with a Defender?

The second factor, the Fluff, follows from the first. How far can you modify an X-wing's design, as an example, and still call it an X-wing? Give it another shield and a boost action and you've got a T-70. If you want to take this to an absurd conclusion, give it the Defender's stats and dial. Now you have an X-wing model doing Defender maneuvers. Fixed, right? Not hardly. (That would be pretty cool though)

Few will argue that this is a great game and it's not balanced in all respects. Does FFG know about it? Definitely. Are they working on the elusive fix? I almost guarantee it but not fast enough for some of us. Relax, have fun and leave game design to the designers.

Like seriously. Casuals and plebs can do with 3 per side, it's enough of a headache. But pro players? Maybe 4-5 per side. And a condition card that allows you to blast a big asteroid into two smaller ones. Because. What about randomly spawning 3 asteroids near the edge of the board? Just call it a meteor shower. Or bring an 8 point Asteroid that has no maneuvers, each turn it makes 1 free Boost action at PS 0. It would be same size as the biggest asteroid in your Core set, you know, that really big hunk of rock.

This would go a long way to nerfing

- Every stupid ship that thinks they can do a 5 white K turn forever.
- Every big based ship.
- K Wings
- TIE swarms

The cons is that you could potentially have nowhere to fly and end up castling behind an asteroid wall. But people already do that.

If the casuals and plebs are enjoying the game and the elitist dicks aren't, then maybe the elitist dicks are the ones with the problems?

Aye. Along the same lines, I had to proxy a Fang Fighter on TableTop using a HWK model and an /fo dial. It felt so good to have a HWK that maneuverable.

The OP's ideal would also nerf support ships with "fantastic" dials like the U-wing and the Hwk, which are so OP anyways.

They are then not only highly endangered by red dice creep but also by not having space to fly.

I know this is a troll-ish post. But I do think skill is being brought back in by the designers as of late. Like the pWT's abilities usually happen in arc and mobile firing arcs are great.
