I was looking at the app. Some ships have a lot of upgrades. Where do you get the extra cards? From buying all the packs?

Because I don't care about the rebel scum, only bounty hunters and Empire!

You can buy individual upgrade cards from eBay if you're really desperate but they tend to be more expensive than if you just got the expansion. If you only wanted one card out of an expansion it might be worth your while though.

Ah and now you know why it's plastic crack. They reel you in with the ships you like and you end up buying others because you need the upgrades. Damned dealers.

Yeah, unfortunately you can't buy just one faction in X-Wing and call it a day. Some cards, even after 11 waves are available only through some expansion packs, often limited to one/two factions.

Buying scum/empire can actually get you most of the game, but You'll probably find yourself buing some ships just for the cards. It's possible to buy individual upgrades via e-bay / from local players, especially if they came in FFG's promo kits though, so it's not that terrible...

The killer part is that it's not even the plastic that's crack; it's the cheap pieces of paper that come with it.

What's your collection look like so far? We'd love to share our experience on what are some of the best packs for upgrades, pilots, etc.

I might take you up on that. I've only just gotten back into the game after a 9-12 month hiatus.

• Core set, X, Y, A, B, HWK, E, Aces, YT-2400, Arc-170, Sabine's TIE and U-Wing.

Looking at getting either K-Wing or Heroes of the Resistance next (as it seems like crazy value for money) - my buying thus far has mainly been "What looks cool" rather than "What works". I also have no interest in Imps or Scum so I'm aware I'm gonna miss out on a fair bit as it is.

Looking at your collection, Heroes of he Resistance and the K-wing were the first things that came to mind. Heroes is especially good, but you can't argue with the raw efficiency of Twin Laser Turret. Or Miranda.

Please note you are allowed the upgrades, without the ships, just print out what they do from one of the squad builder apps... BUT you can't use them without the proper cards in an official event.

I however just bought all the ships :-)
