150 pts. Opponent bound to bring Defenders. What do?

By Chaotix, in X-Wing

So a scheduled match is coming up. It's 150 points, and my opponent likes his defenders, Tie/fo's, Tie SF's, and blockers. I play scum.

Thought about bringing numerous things - Parattanni with Bossk, Parattanni with 2 IG's (and IG crew on manaroo), 6 Y-wings w/unhinged and TLT, scum aces with support... What do you think the best 150 pt list to compete with a defender heavy list might be?

Oh! 8 obstacles too. Yup. You heard that right. I didn't make the rules on this one.

150 points you can get a LOT of parattani.

Just for instance.

Ketsu in particular is a defender assassin - move after most of them, double tractor them even if they blocked you, leaving a 1-agi defender for Assaj and Mana to finish off.

Or if you want a different way to go, I've tested 2 ion scyks and 2 fangs, all with Mindlink, pretty heavily against Defenders, and it kills them hard.

An ionised defender, especially a PTL using one, is a dead defender.

Tell him "good game" before he even puts them down, and then figure out another way to spend your time.

8 obstacles, 150 points... yeah, there's not going to be THAT much room to K-turn. With big bases, go for blocks and focus fire. Defenders will go down.

I'd personally be more worried about 4 Ghosts... Just saying, is all...

TLT y's, They crush defenders. Go for it!

I'd be really concerned about TLT Ys in this format FWIW. 4 defenders should nuke a Y before it fires, and 5 ys won't kill two defenders. that imbalance will only get worse.

Well see here's my condundrum - with 8 obstacles, I would be concerned about bringing a bunch of large ships. Also, unfortunately I don't own 2 Shadowcasters (would be nice!).

The TLT Y's might get blown up before they fire - you're right. And it would get worse as the match wore on.

So you see my dillemma! Large ships? A lot of low PS small ships? A mix of aces with TLT support maybe? The ion or tractor beam idea is a good one I think, but I also only own 3 scyks and 2 protectorates. I may be able to make something with that though. Anything to stop this guy from evading all the time - he also LOVES stealth device which makes things difficult for me, so tractoring would be a good idea here I think.

Any other ideas? He's a better player than me in general, but we are approximately 40/50 in win/loss for him over about 25 games or so.

5 TLT Unhinged Thugs + Mux with TLT

3 ion scyks, 2 fangs, and Manaroo. You have to save a point somewhere though. probably losing the title off one of the fangs or dropping one of the sycks down to a tractor beam.

As many copy's of Attanni Mindlink as you have would be the best place to start. With that many ship/obstacles on the mat actions will be precious so being able to spread one focus to your whole squad will be huge.

Why not use your Parattinni with additions? Guri with mindlink and sensor jammer would be an annoying addition to that list... Another focus generator even if everybody bumps.

You could go 3 brobots with hlc, fcs, crack/glitter. Ps6 ties defenders at worst (usually) and 3 hlcs should be able to crunch them pretty well. They clearly have a turning around advantage but it's 8 obstacles and you have 3 large bases so their k options may be limited.

manaroo, bossk party bus, fenn, and another protectorate--would that fit? or the first 3 and then some sycks with ions. Focus fire will wreck x/7's as will ions. They'll have to deal with the party bus, and you can make them pay. If he has multiple defenders get rid of them first. As nigeltastic noted, he'll probably have lower PS (the defenders will), so take advantage of that. Also, with x/7's if you can make them do less than 3 speed, that's good, or if you can control their options, you know where they will go. Often, they'll either be K-turning (especially Ryad) or doing a 3-turn.

Old Teroch would be good, as you can strip a defender's tokens--then it just has the naked dice and that's not as good.

After a little more thought I'd try my fall Mindlink list but add an IGGY:

Fenn Rau: ML, title, AT

Old Teroch: ML, title, AT

Manaroo: ML, K4, Plasma Torp, Unhinged, Chips, BMST

IG88-C: ML, FCS, HLC, AT

I'd do C because he can Focus+Evade easily every turn and be a tough nut to crack at 4s/4h. Old Teroch + Fenn can mulch x/7 Defenders if flown well. This still leaves four points to play with; I'd consider some combination of Burnout Slam, BMST, Feedback Array, Ion Bomb on Charlie and/or Ex Mun, upgrade the Plasma to a Proton on Manaroo.

If you can get a little practice before hand this should be a solid list.

Here arw aome sqauds i built beforw making this post. Tell me which ones you think i am going down thw right path on and offer some suggestions! I really need to destroy this guy :)

Just in general I wouldn't take all y wings with tlt mostly from boredom. I also think latts is going to be extremely lackluster on ventress when fighting defenders. Latts is best at fighting other mindlink lists because they spread stress so easily. You will need to punch hard vs. Defenders and not try to play attrition because x7 should win attrition always. I'd staple dengar or k4 to ventress.

So many replies with Scum builds in this topic and only one has suggested Palob Godalhi.

Seriously, use him. For maximum anti- x7 play, put an Ion Turret on him, but TLT works too.

It's also really good for the opening exchange to put Cloaking Device + SPA on, because you'll have an Evade + Focus or 2 Evades if you plan it properly (i.e. cloak the turn before shots are fired), which makes him an unappealing target.

This is a good point, you could go super anti defender tech with things like palob, teroch, party bus and still have points for at least one other good ship.

How many Kihraxz Fighters do you have? A pack of those suckers can burn through even the Tie Defender's defenses.

I don't have many Kihraxz. I don't have much luck with those ships...
