Average Play Time

By kreisler, in Horus Heresy

I'm hoping that this baby plays on average 2 - 2.5 hours, better if less. I know HH is going to be quite epic but anything that shoots more than 3 hours can be overkill to the point I shall just say 'let the Emperor and his favorite son screw each other till the Tyranid comes and pwnz 'em all' :)

I believe the 2-player system will help speed up things, better than with so many various players with varying speed of play and smack talking.

While we're on it, what would be the best average game time you think that is most ideal, for games something like this?

Hopefully about an hour and a half, tops.

Just played the original boardgame a couple weeks ago and got done in just under 90 minutes. Hopefully the new HH won't be any longer...

FFG's Epic Box games have a tradtion of taking multiple hours to complete (4+), but they also generally seat 6 players or more. This one being 2 player only will probably be much shorter than the rest. I'd guess somewhere in the neighbourhood of two hours personally, probably less once you both know the rules

Only Big Boxes I've played are Marvel Heroes (are we allowed to mention that anymore gui%C3%B1o.gif ), Middle-Earth Quest and War of the Ring. Assuming HH will come in this size box and not the even bigger Descent/Tide of Iron (I think) size box. MH rarely lasts 1h (today's game 20min), MEQ averages 75 min and War of the Ring is under 2h. Under 2 hours should be a solid bet for HH.

HH *IS* coming in the epic size box. Just look at the picture of the box.

For me, 2 - 2 1/2 hours would be *perfect*. Just long enough so my cousin-in-law and I can justify hanging out all night together but not so long we get bored.

HH is definitely an Epic Box game, not a Big Box game. Same size as Descent, Twilight Imperium, et al.

All those games takes hours upon hours. I can't imagine HH being a quickie in a big box. Seems so un FFG like.

2-3 hours for a 2 player game is still pretty long, in my opinion. The only reason I expect HH will likely be shorter than other Epic Box games is due to the small number of players, not complexity of the game or lack of bits. If HH seated 6 like TI3, I'm sure it would take just as long to finish.

There was talk with FFG on 40KRadio and form that they expect an avg playing time to be 1 - 1.5 h.

Which episode of 40k radio?

Sorry for the late reply.
