Rolling 'X' makes the game dreadful, any advice?

but removing the X on the attack die to place on the defense die has some problems :

What about heroes and monsters that do not roll grey defense die as their native roll ? Such as Zombies or Merriods for example ?

And if all thoses dice should have their own X on it, it would really be messy ...

One thing you could do;

Have the defender roll a blue die with the defense roll. If the attackers blue die rolls an 'X' ignore it and treat it as a blank side. If the defenders blue die rolls an X, treat the attack as a miss.

This still weights it towards the defender slightly (since its still 1/6 for a miss, but you can additionally have a worse attack roll), and some abilities become worse (Reinheart now just re-rolls a crappy attack, rather than a full out miss), but at least the person rolling the X is cheering.

In fact, it only change psychologically, since attack have the same chances to miss. But it's the defenders luck and not the attack.

Don't see the point, really ...

You said it yourself, it's a psychological change. It's no longer a failure of the attacker, it's a success by the defender. That can make a big difference in how somebody feels about the result. Perception is a powerful thing.

I agree with Rugal, in math terms. This solution just changes the side, but keep the problem. I always think that 1/6 chance of a miss is really bad.

A good and easy solution in my opinion, would be put X on all dice used to compose the attack (red, yellow, green and of course the blue), and only consider a miss if all the dice rolls the X on the same throw.

possible, but the outcome of damage can/will be a lot lower (unless you upscale the current value) so it would be harder and will take longer to kill monsters and bosses.

Yeah, this feature would obligate a lot of changes. I just have in mind a way to speed up the game.

In fact, it would have been a lesser problem if the dice were 8 face instead of 6 (so 1 chance on 8 to fail)

But for the ones who really wants to change that fact, you can treat the X as a blank results. In most cases, it would be the same case, the attack would miss because of not enough range, not enough damage, but you could sometimes recovers some life.

I tried, but in late quests, it could pose a threat because some heroes could be real killers in melee damages.

A very simple solution - treat X as a blank result. Many a time you will find that the attack fails anyway due to effectively having one die less, but it will be less disasterous.

My advice stop attacking and move instead. There are no X's when you move. I wonder if Trump was good at Sim City.
