7 hours ago, Dahawi said:Yes, definitely the Dragon Mon. Assuming this is an official poster then it's great finally have some news! Shame about the Mantis and Spider but I have no doubt they will appear eventually.
I'm still holding out hope that FFG will make cross-clan decks more viable, so that even if Mantis aren't a Great Clan, we'll still see the families in some form or other. It'd be great to have a deck and be able to sprinkle in some Tsuruchi, Kitsune, Moshi, or...um...whatever the fourth one was. (Yuugimotou? Yoko-ono? Something like that.)

Muscletomo?
What??
No Nezumi faction??

HOORAY
Bear in mind they could also have Mantis and Spider in a L2P set.
Edit: And not to belabor the obvious, but that's a Unicorn mon, not the Ki-Rin.
Edited by SirEuainThis is great. We are a thirsty bunch - one image, posted (as of now) 11 hours ago = three pages of discussion. FFG, you might have the built-in rabid fanbase you were hoping for...
So long as FFG's had its shots...
It is not likely that FFG will do an L2P set, as that is how the Core is designed for all of their other LCG's. They have released more factions in deluxe expansions for most of their other LCG's, though, so we will probably get something like that here.
Edited by MMeinhardtit occurs to me, looking at this again and explaining it to a friend who isn't an l5r player, that the 7 mons on the front is not necessarily an indication of the contents of the box. Given that its not a box lid, just an advertisement for the game, showing off the clan mons makes sense. granted, the lack of spider and mantis is noteworthy, but if it ends up being clans v shadowlands, i wouldn't end up surprised they didn't put shadowlands on this.
HEY YOU LEAVE MY STRAWS ALONE I WAS GRASPING THOSE
Just a thought, but in 14 years of Thrones they've never given players the option of playing as the Others (White Walkers in the show).

Or alongside?
I realize the L2P set was very much an AEG thing, but for demo decks especially it's a good idea to show a variety of mechanics.
And yes, I'm more interested in this from the straw-grasping angle. Whatever else may be said about Mantis and Spider, they were clans whose popularity outstripped the others cut from the game. I'd like to think FFG wouldn't announce their cut by way of silently dropping them from ads.

kind of a different scenario tho. SL/spider are an established playable faction, and arguably one of the most popular ones, with one of the most active fanbases.

The demo decks in A Game of Thrones 2.0 showed a variety of mechanics, so as long as the factions have them in-built you'll see them in the Core Set.

But presumably not a massive difference in just any two factions. Crab vs. Lion, for instance, probably wouldn't have the variation that Lion vs. Phoenix would have. It'd be easier to design two decks to specifically play off of each other than set up seven decks to do that.
Again, not saying it's definite, I'm just saying it's a possibility.

There's an actual 0% chance of a separate Learn to Play box. We know this from history. There will probably be a Learn to Play video, which is just a audio/video rehash of the rules in the box.
No comments on the fact that there appear to be 5 - yes, FIVE - Rings on the artwork as well? And one is clearly the Ring of Mountain.

What could it mean??
7 Clans + Shadowlands is exactly what I was hoping for! Maybe 2 unalighned and 1 Phoenix Shugenja Shadowlands personalities in the base set then a deluxe horde box at 9 months. I am in!
If the Banner mechanic in the relaunch of GoT is any indicator then look for clan combos in the relaunch of L5R. I cannot wait to see a Cran+Lion deck! ![]()

I must be weird because I prefer clan specific decks with very little mixing.
I understand my preference is in the minority though, and there will very likely being clan splashing g.
Personally I am not a huge fan of splashing either, other than a bit of the Shadowlands taint on my Phoenix Shugenja.
One thing I am a big fan of is:
Shadowlands Horde > Spider Clan
Also holding out hope for some type of L5R skirmish game with awesome miniatures.
They could do something similar to Conquest with an alignment wheel to allow for each clan to pair with two "neighboring" clans, presumably using allegiances that would make the most sense.
Gah, keep your stupid maho away from my fire chickens!
It's pretty much the ultimate in "been there, done that, and it always sucks."
Go taint the Crane or the Unicorn or something...

I certainly hope that single-clan is still a strong strategy, but it would be nice if multi-clan were also viable.

Mm. This would also make for an interesting balance mechanic -- Crab + Scorpion get too powerful in-game, their alliance breaks in story and mechanics both.

Agreed. Crane's had an insane number of corrupt wins with little to no blowback.
