Seven Clans in Core Set?

By kempy, in Legend of the Five Rings: The Card Game

There's also an interesting comment under this picture:

" Terra Ludica: Pour l'histoire ils font un reboot via le JDR. Donc on oublie tous les chemins pris par la V1 sur la storyline."

Google translate:

" Terra Ludica: For the story they make a reboot via the JDR. So we forget all the paths taken by the V1 on the storyline."

JDR = RPG

Oh. That's kind of a big deal.

V1? What is that?

Yeah, the Path votes were almost certainly never going to fly- and since they only represented a tiny percentage of the small population playing AEG's game by the end... it's a smart call.

Looks like "Version 1.0". And FFG's one is V2 then.

So picking up at Onyx without the path choices? Is that what this means?

If that ends up being true, then I'm down.

No, it sounds to me like a complete reboot.

Sounds like that for me too.

I'm kinda getting hyped here.

i don't a) understand what making a reboot via the rpg means and b) remotely believe they'll abandon the entire story. until i get a direct source from FFG on this, i'm calling bull

edit, to expand on the rpg bit: one of the few things they're on the records about is that the rpg "is on their radar but if it happens will be later" so i don't follow why the card game would follow the rpg in any way. i mean, translation failure? but i just don't get how the two are connected via a reboot.

Could this mean they will simply pick from where the Winter Court IV ended?

*hopeful*

I guess the LCG will only get a generic story, so essentially a timeline-neutral basic setting to pick up some steam early on. Then they will kick the tires with the RPG that will actually go into details and set up the starting point.

<does not make any of the 37 snarky remarks that come to mind about how well timeline neutrality ended up working out for the spider>

Ok, so that's the answer to one question. :)

Now, let's see where the storyline will be when the game launches.

Given this reveal, I wouldn't be too dismayed if they brought us back to the very dawn of the Empire, at least for the initial arc. I think it could be really cool to see the clans in their birth state, before delving into the nitty-gritty of everything that takes place thereafter.

Keep in mind, this would also work in the ongoing story. 'Spider' becomes just a different name for Shadowlands Horde, and whatever untainted remains of them were left behind are either retconned out of existence (YAY), or sent to the same place Minor Clans go (once in a blue moon appearance). And Mantis got nuked in Onyx.

Well, if they go for the full retcon then the Spider will - obviously - get the shorter end of the stick anyway, timeline-neutrality or not.

lol yeah, we're boned either way if they reboot. i was mostly just referencing my longstanding grudge against 4th editions timeline neutrality. a complaint for another topic.

I always saw it as a kick in the pants for you guys that the 4E rulebook was touted as being all about "timeline neutrality," and yet the Mantis were placed alongside the original Great Clans, rather than in the Advanced section with the Spider.

i can go on at GREAT LENGTH about why it failed the spider. but like i said, another thread, which i'm happy to contribute to if you're so inclined to start it. this thread is to talk about how we're boned by a possible reboot and/or pretty new mon!

FFG was experimenting with delivering story inserts into conquest before the GW partnership ended.
GOT atleast early on(not sure about now) tried to follow the books plot line.
I think they got enough experience to try and adequately flash out a bit of the universe with story line inserts/card art/mechanics/characters.

Officially welcoming all insect refugees into the clan of the fiery chicken. Hope on board, boys!

fire chickens is definitely one option for me. crane and phoenix are the two most corrupty clans of all time, so they're my go to backups. depends on what kind (if any) corruption mechanic exists. and if there is dueling.

Sure. I'll give them and Dragon a try.

WCV has kinda soured me on the other five (and on L5R rpg).

Maybe it just means that the RPG will be set in the 'classic' era while the LCG moves on.

This has got to be the best news I've heard so far! :D

I'm sorry for the Mantis players, I really liked Yoritomo back in the day, the Spider clan felt shoehorned and hamfisted to me, but I hope the players find a place in a future release of a big bad shadowlands faction.

You would have friends among the Unicorn, I dare to say.
