Dead Cities and shipping

By Peacekeeper_b, in Dark Heresy

I ordered Dead Cities from the FFG store on 1 January 2010 and it is still listed as pending shipment. I did ready the disclaimer that said nothing would ship until Jan 11th, but it is now Jan 18th.

Anyone else have this issue?

I presume you mean Damned City...the second book in the Haarlock trilogy.

It has been a week since they started shipping and depending on the volume of purchase they may either:

-not have completed your order yet -since there is a lot of order to fill up before yours,

-or completed it and shipped it, but not updated the status on it -it happened to me with another online store.

I wouldn't start worrying about it, for a couple more weeks really.

PS: mine was bought on the 13th and I also have the pending shipment status, but not going to worry about it for another 2 weeks.

Good grief! I bought a copy of Damned Cities in the local games shop last Wednesday. What's going on?

I was wondering why no one was talking about the adventure, maybe you ALL ordered it from FFG!

By the way, the adventure drips with atmosphere and the depiction of Sinophia Magna is quite something. I plan on using it to run my own adventures there.

There seem to be problems with Amazon getting it delivered - I got fed up of waiting for them to even get any copies in, and ordered it from Orc's Nest in London. It only just arrived yesterday. And very good it is, too!

I wonder if FFG are prioritising deliveries to local games retailers over Amazon? I seem to recall reading somewhere that they are anxious for customers to support local games shops, so maybe that's what's happening. Orc's Nest always seem to get FFG books in days or weeks before Amazon...

EDIT: And yes, Gaudy Scabbard, I totally agree, Sinophia is my favourite Dark Heresy setting so far. I really like the fact that we have an Imperial World that looks totally different to the normal "Necromunda" style hives, with its own architectural look, and its own unique, faded and run down feel. Great stuff!

Amazon (UK) don't receive their books directly from FFG, they get them from Esdevium Games. In the case of the new WFRP, for example, Esdevium did prioritise game stores over Amazon and Play. So, Amazon's issues aren't down to FFG at all (no more than Amazon's issues with D&D are down to WotC for example).

So about 4 hours ago I decided to order Damned Cities from the War Store. I have already received three emails from them, including one telling me it has been shipped.

Now I need to figure out how to cancel my FFG order.

I found out through a LONG chat with customer service what some of the issues with Amazon are. Apparently FFG books (and presumably boxed games) are not stocked directly in the assorted Amazon warehouses scattered throughout the US, but rather they are shipped for Amazon via third party warehouses that are not on the same interconnected system. Basically stuff from their own shelves is "wired in" and CS reps can interact with it right up until the ship order hits the warehouse. With the third party warehouses once the order information is transmitted to them Amazon is "hands off" in that they can no longer interact with the order in ANY way... It simply shows as "in process" to them. Once it hits that status it usually will ship within a week. This means that your pre-ordered FFG books will show up up to a few weeks after it hits the local game stores. Theoretically my copy should arrive tomorrow, since UPS tracking says it arrived at the local terminal today. Glee!

In contrast, when I order new novels they ship almost immediately. Strangely enough Amazon seems to ship White Wolf and Paizo game books pretty quickly too so I rather suspect that the real issue might be with the publishing house or distributor.
