So in the new Daqan article, it gives emphasis again that Kari can take a 'non-unique' Latari unit in her army list. Since I am not a lore buff, I was hoping some of you might have ideas about military units from the lore (not specific heroes, but actual military orders or something) that we might see as Unique titles, and what unit type and factions they would be?
Unique Unit Speculations
We might see unique units of say infantry, but remember a unit counts as a unit as well so don't get your hopes up. To answer your question though I would love to see Tyviel's guard as an elf unit, or title upgrade.
Kari is a unique infantry unit. Ardus is a unique infantry unit.
I do definitely think a regiments of renown type thing is possible in the future.

Exactly this.

Yes, I understand that Heroes will be unique. I was wondering if anyone had insight into what some unique infantry units might be forthcoming, as titles for Spearmen, Oathsworn Cavalry, Rune Golems, Reanimates, Reanimate Archers, Carrion Lancers, or future units. Or perhaps if there might be a specific unique unit that an army might receive, @Orcdruid mentioned with Tyviel's Guard for Latari?
I doubt we will see unique infantry units anytime soon. Although there are small regiments of renowned unit in the lore (especially from Diskwars, it seems), those units are large enough to fill up your 200 points on the battlefield, so there's no need to make them unique.
On the other hand, I could envision a "title" system similar to X-Wing that they could use as a balancing mechanic if some units fall behind in the power curve. They could make a card for the Oathsworn Cavalry called "Kelleran Cavalry" to give them some ability as an upgrade without an upgrade symbol. However, I find the Title mechanic in X-Wing a bit clunky, so I hope they don't go that route here.

My exact thoughts. Although that doesn't mean I don't expect to be able to field a unit of Bloodwood Elves in the Latari Army.
I'd expect something similar to the unique squadrons in Armada. Most likely we'll see different abilities, attack dice, and organizations (trays, upgrade choices, etc. on back of a unit card).
See,I don't think we'll see something like that. I think the reason they do that in Armada and X-Wing is because their models are limited by the IP. With Runewars, if they need more unit variety, they just make new models. There is no need to have multiple cards per model.
I think the reference to non-unique units is basically the same as saying "not-a-hero" in this game.
Edited by BudgernautChanged "hero" to "not-a-hero."
I think I would like something like an 'elite' upgrade available for one unit, got to embed a hero or runegolem and maybe add some special ability that synergies. I could see a title as a neat way to add a special ability to a unit profile without needing a larger size for the normal upgrades. I could definitely see it as a special card, using another model unit, maybe adding a special Sargeant leader model to indicate it. Perhaps like a special forces unit, only 2-4 trays, and allows a lot more upgrades than normal for the size.
I would like to see new sculpts of unique units...having the same models represent two separate types of units can be annoying...especially if your opponent is playing an army whose color theme is grey plastic on grey plastic...unique sculpts for unique unit also just looking more interesting...

I reckon, like @Budgernaut said, with the freedom over their own IP they can make new units and sculpts as required. Instead of using a title system.

OR you can do all of the above? Long term, it would be entirely possible to have unique units with new sculpts. In the short term, however, I don't really see unique units being made. Having different unit cards for existing units is just an easy, provable solution. We have all three Star Wars miniature games to look as a probable example.
I'll add that simply having a unique unit on a card for an existing unit also helps with some cash concerns.
I was also thinking it would be cheaper to pick up as a player as well. Instead of having to buy 16 models, you could just buy a champion blister pack. I've been trying to convince myself they might release individual model blister packs. I was more thinking of like a unit that is special and gets a unique ability because of its leader, but not as good as we get from a Hero being added to the squad (so you could do it at smaller tray sizes.

The closest we might get to individual blisters are the hero packs. Even then, with the two heroes we know of, you're getting to models.
Ah, but you are assuming that they are packaged together... for all we know the money trolls at FFG are salivating at the prospect of releasing the solo and mounted separately for the same cost... I agree though that it makes sense they will be packaged together, to justify pricing them so high. I hope Hero packs are closer to the $14.99 MSRP than the $25 MSRP.

I'm just hoping that we can choose to have the mounted hero act solo in a new cavalry hero base. That gives some more interesting choices for army building, do I incorporate the hero into the infantry, cavalry or act solo and if do so do I want to sacrifice X for the added speed movements on horseback?

Nice timing lol
Talking about unique units and to not open another thread for nuts : How did Kari find herself fighting along with Daqans ? I mean, She's an elf, her ability is to deploy a non-elf unit in the elves army, so...why didn't they chose Lord Hawthorne to lead the starting daqan forces instead of an elf ?....

You've got that backwards. Also she's not an elf look at her ears.

she allows the daqan to field an elf unit, not an elf army to field a non elf unit.
not sure why she is allied with daqan though.
I haven't read the lore but I suspect that Kari trained, lived with, or is otherwise tied to the elves. When I see her, she seems like a conversion of Red Scorpion from Runebound but I have no idea of the lore of the character in that game either. Besides the little flavor on her card in the remake.
Gotta wait for that lore book.

Given what cards we've seen (Latari Training, and Kari's special ability) This is a safe assumption. She's trained with the latari as a scout, but is from the Baronies.
@Taki also she doesn't have pointy ears.
Just now, Orcdruid said:@Taki also she doesn't have pointy ears.
I thought that was quite obvious. But remember, even if she did, there are elves, dwarves and other non humans living in the baronies as well.
