I'm this close to out. If this is going to become a game where if you don't jump on the pre-order the second it gets released, good luck finding product, I'm not going to chase it.
There has been an awakening... reprint inc!
If I'm reading this right it's saying the new base sets will remain in print (exception being Awakenings) for a year and only the 2 expansions that follow will get one printing released in waves?
That's going to make the expansion sets the difficult ones to get going forward it seems. We'll see how it goes I guess.
Now we just need a rotation policy and or format definitions. I'm sure that will come with more sets.

This game so far has a track record of limited and questionable supply.
My point being that limited supply is going to make people and retailers hoard and/or mark-up pre-orders. Kinda like now where Awakening boxes are at $200 on the secondary. I imagine that this news of a limited print run for SoR (if I'm reading this correctly) will make some people think about jacking up the price just alittle.
If anything today's news will have an impact on the secondary market. Sadly.

Edited by Hawkman2000Was waiting for sweet, sweet new spoilers for SoR cards.
Instead, was given news about how future expansion waves would have only a single print run.
Wanna kick me in the junk a few times while you're at it, FFG? Well played... ![]()
Well... what may happen is that they print much more than they did for the initial Awakenings set for their future expansions; but, so many people drop the game due to the business model that there is plenty of supply. As someone who doesn't preorder games, a part of me hopes this is the case. (not really, I just want there to be plenty of supply for everyone who wants in.)
Edited by BearStampedeA new base each year replacing lasts years isn't rotating out the last set, it'll still be tournament legal just not available for purchase. The base sets will be available all year long.
The new print runs will be much larger then Awakenings. Time will prove or disprove that.
i don't think this article has told us any more then we already knew/guessed.
Awakenings starters will be available and this next run of Awakenings boosters will hopefully be large enough.
For new people entering the game there will always be starters available.
I'm seriously considering selling my collection. It sounds like card availability will be an issue for the foreseeable future. On a good day, FFG isn't great at producing enough quantity for the initial demand. I've never been too worried, though, because they always reprint. This article basically says that future Destiny expansions are one and done. I worry that if I'm not proactive about preordering, that I'll never be able to get all the cards I want. It also sounds like any new person getting into the game will simply never be able to buy the majority of cards available for deck building.
In good conscience, I don't think I could recommend this game to a friend right now, knowing that they'll likely never be able to have the same deck options and won't be able to compete properly.
Did Miniature Market or CSI ever have preorders open for Spirit of Rebellion boxes?

No they don't. Rotations will cause players to leave the game. The old SW ccg game never had a rotation and the meta game was stable across the board. More sets in the playing pool will keep the game healthy with more diverse decks to play or play against.
If player cant afford or does not want to buy singles to play then oh well. Its just like Magic CCG I love to play in modern but cant afford a $1000 deck.
I do agree with the limited print runs. It keeps card values stable...some will spike due to play but drop when a new counter against it comes out.
If everybody thought card values will be below $20 or even $10 you thought wrong. If you think its wrong that you shouldn't have to pay that much to play per card then you might as well move on to another game now.
I don't see how a limited print run keeps card values stable. What happens if Expansion 4 suddenly makes a card from Awakenings or SoR super useful and powerful? The only way to get that card is the secondary market, and I guarantee you its price will shoot up.
Maybe this has been said but if not I would like to say that casual collectors are also very negatively affected by these print runs and limit on card availability. I don't play competitive but I like the art and want at least one of every card. Knowing I don't have unlimited cash means likely that I will not achieve that easily unless I get dupes of high value cards I can sell or trade for missing ones. My motivation is now to divest from this game and focus on the others that don't have these limits or constraints which also consume large quantities of my funds.
This means for me, that I am unlikely to ask my friends to get into this game unless we want to play on TTS. Having the iconic versions of the best characters in the movies unavailable is unappealing.
That said, my wife and I will continue with our Saga set pre-order and attempt to get seconds of our favorite legendaries on the secondary market if needed.
-Forget this CCG random booster nonsense.
Also, I question the wisdom of FLGS's holding drafts if we know booster costs and cards prices after release are only going to go up.
I think stable in this case means on average a rare will be above $3 and a legendary will be above $18. If the cards are printed in over abundance then the price over time will come down quite a bit. It is a nice feeling for those with cards knowing the market value will probably hold, but it is also crappy for casuals who don't do huge pre-orders 3-4 months in advance. Time will tell how this plays out but I am holding out still as the game itself is amazingly fun and well balanced.

You have to have a rotation in this game especially when you are releasing 200 card sets every 3-4 months otherwise you can't change which cards are the best unless you print new cards that simply replace them.

Limited print runs = higher secondary market costs. Add in the idea that right now, if you want Vader you're paying close to $45, means that getting your favorite characters may be an issue in the future. What if we don't see another Vader in another expansion for some time? That will only make his current value go up, regardless of the meta.
I hate to sound doom and gloom, but this article raises so many questions that just can't be answered right now. I should be feeling positive and encouraged about the games success, but I honestly feel like it's a crap shoot. Maybe supply will be good and everyone will get a shot at every expansion they want. Maybe next year's base set will effectively reset the market and the supply will be enough that everyone gets at least a chance to buy boosters retail.

How the heck to do you even draft this game successfully? Everything I've seen is trying to force it.
What they said was that future waves will have one print run.
I'm hoping that what they meant was, future waves will have one print run, but they'll be 4x the size of the first Awakenings print run.
Time will tell, I guess.
As long as the print runs are large enough to meet demand on print run is fine. But if it's short you run into the problem of speculators buying the product simply to sell it in the secondary market and keeping it out of the hands of those who actually play the game.
It's just so strange. FFG know they aren't meeting demand, but then go ahead and state they aren't going to do anything about it. It's losing them potential profit and hurting the player base.
It's going to be very unfair for players who come into the game later and miss the earlier sets.
I came to the game after New Year and never managed to get a box of boosters - I hope I can get hold of one in the last print run. I suspect demand for the last Awakenings will be huge.
This article was a...

If FFG can increase the amount of product to where there is no shortage of boosters for the 4 or so months a set takes center stage there won't be a problem. I think the third set (which comes with new Starters) will make or break this game. I have serious doubts about what kind of supply will be available for SoR. I hope the push back (from April) to May means they are stock pilling to ensure a big initial push for SoR.

Still don't have to have a rotation or the rotation is on 2 year basis. Otherwise we get into the same situation we are in now or like magic. Everybody is playing the same 4-5 decks with no diversity. You cant expect people to buy, invest and POOF cards are no good for tournament play all of a sudden. The game is new and does not need one till its stable and been out for a few years.
Edited by bravo29This sounds just like the release schedule for MtG. One large set followed by two closely themed smaller sets each year. Everyone relax. Your cards will not stop working. All of the other games that FFG does in the LCG line have super long rotation schedule. Android: Netrunner still has not had a single card rotate out.
This is bad news. I shared this article with my friend, and he is now wanting to sell his collection. MTG NEVER runs out of product, and the way this is explained it seems as though there will never be enough product to keep players interested or get new players into the game. Why not just mass produce, get players playing and keep current customers buying. This is such a great game, why isn't it getting better production to keep it alive?

I will promote the **** out of this game because it will be truly collectable. Everyone sees thing's differently
