I know the Upsilon isn't showing up huge in the Meta in the recent events (as I have read), but I just saw....

By clanofwolves, in X-Wing

I don't know what the Bat-wing or whatever the term of endearment is for the updated, dark, overly-winged Lambda is, but I saw a solid player wreck two other very solid players: the standard Dengaroo and his wife-y squad and then absolutely force-choking a Fen led Mind-link train. I haven't seen a live game with an Ups until this one. Now maybe the dice got lucky, but this thing with an X7 and Omega seemed to terrify and stress the Scum-Over-Link with abandon as it lit up ships. I was like, what??

I'm not very good with flying my Lambda, and therefore aren't Palps best friend; he just peers at me angrily through the card-holder as I flip him by.

So.....is this ship real? ......should I buy one?

is this ship real

No, it's fictional. Unless you mean the model. That's definitely real.

Pics or it never happened...;)

The difference is that the lambda can swing any given game. It's 3 die gun, at that point cost, often towards the end of combat, can be that little push that swings a game in your favor.

The UPS HAS to swing the game. It's price and massive attack value REQUIRE that it be present and shifting the tide of battle. It takes a strong pilot to do that, and a stronger one to force an enemy into the maw.

That all being said, I love mine. No one expects the one hard.

They dial is very similar to the Ghost, which makes it quite different from the Lambda. Unlike the Lambda, the Upsilon was not really designed as a support ship. It will cost you a fair bit, and if you don't build it as a battle wagon, it will have a hard time earning it's points back.

Which doesn't mean you can't build it as a support ship, or even that you shouldn't. But it needs to be built with offense in mind. Which is why it's not Palpmobile 2.0.

I think Coordinate was largely underestimated. It's freakin insane.

Coordinate is the one thing, besides the 2-white turn, that has made the most difference in how I build an Aces list with the Spacebat. You don't want a PtL user, because they can't benefit from coordinate. Much better would be O'Leader or Vader, or even Critty McCritterface, who rely on actions but don't want to get stressed.

Can't they? Coordinate is a free action so...dial in a green, Coordinate into a barrel roll or whatever, Push for another action, move, clear stress, get another action? Soontir could do BR+Evade+Focus (from stress)+Boost, or something similar. Inky can reposition, focus, TL, evade.

Oh, and end the round with no stress. Now, there might be better options out there, but...that's not too shabby.

That combo works, but there are far too many times when Soonts and Inky want to Boost+BR out of arcs and get stressed, then can't coordinate next round.

It's true, all of it.

Who is Critty McCritterface?

On the other hand, Soontir can now take Rage with an Inspiring Recruit, and get three focus tokens, rerolls on three dice, an evade token, and no stress.

Did this with a PalpBat, Soontir, and Omega Leader and it was glorious. I could give Soontir 4 actions every round, or I could set up OL's Juke/TL combo on an unsuspecting target all at once. Seriously fun to fly.

@PhantomFO Soontir doesn't take passengers.

I ran Kylo with an ordinance-carrying, low-PS bomber. No one expects the coordinate/TL missile launch.

I've had some measure of success against Paratanni with this build:

Starkiller Base Pilot (30)
Recon Specialist (3)
Pattern Analyzer (2)
Weapons Guidance (2)

37 points, for a 73% chance of 4 hits/crits after Weapon Guidance, (90% of 4+ hits at short range) usable when passing through debris or taking a Stop maneuver.

I'd love to know the full list.

Omega Leader- Juke, Comms Relay

Colonal Vessary- Veteran Instincts, Tie/x7

Starkiller Base Pilot- Fire Control Systems, Emperor Palpatine

You Occasionally see it carry palp around, but again those 9 points do take a lot away from the Defenders. I think this sums it up perfectly.

Still with a better dial and a natural 4 dice attack (unlike attaching an HLC on the shuttle) the Ups is more than capable of swinging the game around. Then again, that sort of makes it more difficult to fly because you have to use it more instead of stay out of the way and set dice.

the Ups is a really fun ship but really hard to use. You do have to make it attack. And its has a harder time slow rolling than the Lambda.

That Ups, Vess OL list sounds pretty fun btw. Just good raw damage.

I have a few lists around the UPS. Its insane but you have to fly it very aggressively. You can't ignore your 4 dice primary and must fly accordingly. I like mine with Palp, Baffle, and HyperWave Comm (so I have optimal placement of shuttle at PS12). I was most successful with PS10 Vader and PS10 Duchess. Coordinate is the real deal! I was able to wipe a Corran Horn off the board with a super aggressive shuttle and a timely boost from Vader via coordinate. Corran Bumped Vader, 4 dice from Duchess and 5 from Starkiller took him off the board.

I like the baffle to sit on the edge of the asteroid field and bombard the fight with actions or focused Palp shots. Back 2 Dials streamed my UPS list round 4 of the Denver Regional if you want video. I only went 4-2 on the day though. But the list is better than I flew it for sure!

The list I'm most excited to try next is with Kylo pilot batwing, whisper, and Wampa. I think target priority might be interesting for my opponent!

did you feel a loss of defense or offense from only having Vader and duchess as other ships?

I had Vader/ATC/EU/Adaptability/Title and Duchess/VI/AA/LWF for my aces, but I could see a case for Omega Leader. I just really like flying the new Striker :)

I didn't notice much because you also have to leverage the 4-dice shuttle into your plan. I usually dropped the shuttle into the corner that best worked for me and taunted with the highly maneuverable aces. Then I'd do something like a 3-straight or turn with the shuttle to get it into the asteroid field with the aces. Then Baffle, focus or coordinate on the shuttle. Between Range 1 Vader shots and Duchess at Range 1, usually out of arc, I didn't have too much trouble. I lost to a paratanni list (this could have gone either way, but dice swung his way) and to a triple x wing ace-killer list that went 6-0 on the day (I was paired up my last round).

I have seen turrets with Duchess but last weekend I flew a Targeting computer duchess in a triple 9's list to 4-0. I feared TLT's on a striker, as anyone should. Other than that, I like the maneuverability. I've found most people discount her as too fragile, which she is, and I can see why you wouldn't try and gun down a mid-20 point ship with the other ships flanking you!

lol 3X list that went 6-0? the end up upon us. Xwingsssss

yeah baffle is really good for the shuttle.
