Are triple T70's viable?

As a rule I don't like autothrusters on 2AG ships. But considering I got a crushing defeat from a tlt list and a Falcon last week I'm wavering on that one...

This is where I'm at with my squad testing.

T-75 (100)

Poe Dameron (36) - T-70 X-Wing
Adaptability (0), R5-P9 (3), Pattern Analyzer (2), Integrated Astromech (0)

Nien Nunb (36) - T-70 X-Wing
Rage (1), R4-D6 (1), Pattern Analyzer (2), Experimental Interface (3)

Jess Pava (28) - T-70 X-Wing
M9-G8 (3), Integrated Astromech (0)

This is the current version of my squad without Poe

T72 (100)

Nien Nunb (38) - T-70 X-Wing
Rage (1), BB-8 (2), Pattern Analyzer (2), Black One (1), Experimental Interface (3)

"Snap" Wexley (36) - T-70 X-Wing
Push The Limit (3), R2 Astromech (1), Pattern Analyzer (2), Autothrusters (2)

Jess Pava (26) - T-70 X-Wing
R2-D6 (1), Integrated Astromech (0), A Score To Settle (0)

Interesting using experimental interface on nien, ti give it boost for arrive range 1 and trigger rage.

Question: but in this way Jess dont risk stata alone and dont trigger nothing?

I'm starting a one-man campaign to bring Ello Asty back. He's so reckless! He's so cool!

It's a risk. It entirely depends what I'm facing in how I choos to approach. She'll be next to Nien for the first few shots anyway. In fairness she's only one point more than a novice so it's worth taking her on the off chance.

I love Ello, I'm just trying to find a way to fly him that Nien isn't better at. I did make a Nien/Ello/Snap list but other than flying them around like some weird offspring if an Interceptor and a Defender I'm not sure how good they'd be. I really wish R7-T1 would trigger when the enemy was in your arc, and not when you're in the enemy's!

Have you got a good build for him?

Yeah, I really like Ello. I'd love to see a good triple T70 squad with Ello and Blue Ace.

Because I'm all about Blue Ace, 'bout Blue Ace (no meta!) ...

Ello Asty (36)
T-70 X-Wing (30), R2 Astromech (1), Outmaneuver (3), Autothrusters (2)

“Blue Ace” (34)
T-70 X-Wing (27), R2-D6 (1), Primed Thrusters (1), Vectored Thrusters (2), Push the Limit (3)

Jess Pava (30)
T-70 X-Wing (25), M9-G8 (3), Pattern Analyzer (2), Integrated Astromech (0)

I don't have a triple T70 build yet, just two T70s and Cassian Andor U-Wing.

At the moment I've used Ello just with Expertise and he kills anything. I don't know what I'm doing in the game yet so I'm not worrying too much about upgrade cards.

I'm joining a casual league soon though, and I am tempted to swap another X-Wing in for Cassian.

I have to stick with Ello just because of the fun I've had with him so far. Including when I get the talon roll completely wrong :/

These are my favorite triple t70s to fly:

T-70 X-Wing: · "Snap" Wexley (28)
Veteran Instincts (1)
R2 Astromech (1)
Integrated Astromech (0)
· Black One (1)
Primed Thrusters (1)
T-70 X-Wing: · Poe Dameron (33)
Push The Limit (3)
· BB-8 (2)
Integrated Astromech (0)
Pattern Analyzer (2)
T-70 X-Wing: · Jess Pava (25)
· R3-A2 (2)
Integrated Astromech (0)
-- TOTAL ------- 99/100p. --

Snap is all kinds of squirrely. Poe is Poe. Pava is cheap and fits in the points remaining.

I'm going to try this based on my very basic strategy of two ships pew-pewing for the majority of the early rounds until Ello gets in position to come in and deliver the serious damage. I just play casually at the moment and I'm mainly learning to fly better.

Kept the upgrades quite simple and (I think) so they enhance the main job of the ship.

Poe Dameron (37) - upgrades so he can be focused more often
R5-P9 (3)
Pattern Analyzer (2)
Cool Hand (1)
Integrated Astromech (0)

Jess Pava (27) - upgrade to help her survive a bit longer
R3 Astromech (2)
Integrated Astromech (0)

Ello Asty (36) - upgrades to keep enemy in his sights and maximise a few big attacks
R3-A2 (2)
Expertise (4)
Integrated Astromech (0)

Tempted to get rid of Ello's droid and put more into Jess, not sure.

You definitely don't want R3A2 if you're using Ello and Expertise as stress shuts down both!

Haha, can't believe I didn't see that! Focused too much on the opponent getting stress

So I'm curious as to how you guys tend to fly this list, specifically formations and when you break them.

My opening formation is fairly tight:

pick a corner then place Jess about half a base back about R2 from the edge, but the exact distance from the edge depends on where the asteroids are. You need to clear the outer most asteroid and prbably be able to turn in, as most lists won't joust you. Nien is as far forward as possible, about half a base from Jess on her board edge side. Poe is in the rear, lined up with the rear edge of the board with his inside edge being lined up with Nien's peg. This means that when you bank in, Jess in in front of the formation which is great to allow her to draw some fire. Poe can slow roll if he wants to keep his distance and Nien can get into R1 fairly easily. I usually break formation almost immediately though: Jess picks either Poe or Nien to shadow, Nien glues himself to a target and makes them pull their hair out, and Poe keeps back and focuses on not dying.

I've found that in the opening engagement you can drop some serious hurt. And after that intelligent talon rolls and a solid dial will keep your opponent on the back foot. Odds are you have more firepower, so being aggressive is very much rewarded. Also always lock Nien with Jess, it makes snapshot much better.

I usually deploy in a wedge. I fly Jess at the front because I want her to die first. Her ability is great at the start and useless if she's the last man standing. Poe sets up on her wing and slightly behind because, while good, I don't mind if they target him either. Nien is my closer and sets up at the back - his ability to not take stress and get all those modded attacks is epic. After the initial run Jess and Poe peel off and hunt together if they can while Nien gets the job done.

Thats the plan anyway. In reality the opponent sees a tooled up Nien and guns for him making me sad while Jess and Poe do their stuff.

Against things like Dengar Jess becomes important as a blocker - I don't mind losing shots if I'm stopping actions.

Tinkering with my 3-70 list and with the FAQ now clarifying that another ship can spend the lock of a TS ship to re-roll dice I'm looking to test out Targeting Coordinator on Jess:

"Snap" Wexley — T-70 X-Wing 28

Veteran Instincts 1

Targeting Astromech 2

Pattern Analyzer 2

Integrated Astromech 0

Black One 1

Ship Total: 34

Nien Nunb — T-70 X-Wing 29

Snap Shot 2

R3-A2 2

Pattern Analyzer 2

Integrated Astromech 0

Ship Total: 35

Jess Pava — T-70 X-Wing 25

M9-G8 3

Targeting Synchronizer 3

Integrated Astromech 0

Ship Total: 31

Synchronizer testing did not go as well as expected. Won three games with the list but I didn't use the TS once. Pava's lock was either stapled to Nien or on something I wanted to keep debuffing. Useful, but not useful enough to justify 3 points in this list.

I'm going to take out this M9-G8 Jess, R5-P9 Poe, and R3-A2 Nien list out tonight:

Poe Jess Nien (100)

Jess Pava (28) - T-70 X-Wing
M9-G8 (3), Integrated Astromech (0)

Nien Nunb (34) - T-70 X-Wing
Snap Shot (2), R3-A2 (2), Primed Thrusters (1), Integrated Astromech (0)

Poe Dameron (38) - T-70 X-Wing
Cool Hand (1), R5-P9 (3), Pattern Analyzer (2), Black One (1), Integrated Astromech (0)

My opponent is planning on a pretty scary Kylo shuttle with Vader, Omega Leader, and Countess Ryad list.

I guess I'll try to get behind Kylo and shoot at the other two. But this list presents a serious challenge.

I had been playing (Casually):

Poe - R2D2, Lone wolf, IA, PA

Snap - VI, PA, Targeting astromech, IA

Jess - M9G8, IA

Snap is easilly MVP in many games since he has very good action economy and you can go crazy on the reds withouth problem (well, actually, you want to use the reds as much as possible). I would tinker a few things, but i don't have the rebel transport for the droids and it works decently enough.

This list kicked ass for me tonight!

Jess Pava and M9-G8 were the stars of the crew. Jess got rerolls, M9-G8 gave rerolls and then made the enemy reroll. All those rerolls added up! Nein worked perfectly, causing stress with R3-A2 and shedding stress from being at R1 and snap shot actually put some damage on the shuttle once, and it was effective to double stress the Upsilon with the snap shot / primary double tap with stressbot. Primed Thusters were a nice bonus being able to boost while carrying stress tokens.

Poe was uninteresting but dependable. He needed more dice mods. I would not keep B1 with this build I don't think. Cool hand was cool to have one round with double focus, but he needed a different EPT. Not sure that I like R5-P9 better than R2-D2. I should find the courage to let go of the regen crutch and take BB-8.

Tonight gave me hope that maybe just maybe T-70s are viable.

image.jpeg

(after destroying the shuttle and the other Delta)

he flew:

Imperials (100)

Starkiller Base Pilot (38) - Upsilon-class Shuttle
Darth Vader (3), Kylo Ren (3), Anti-Pursuit Lasers (2)

Delta Squadron Pilot (31) - TIE Defender
Tractor Beam (1), TIE/D (0)

Delta Squadron Pilot (31) - TIE Defender
Tractor Beam (1), TIE/D (0)

i was terrified of the shuttle so, I flew in fast and in tight formation to hit it first and hit it hard. 11 dice in first round put a hurting on it. The shuttle was gone by the second round of shooting.

Then it was a matter of taking down the /D Deltas.

Well, Ello Asty is in the Q2 kits do we need to get some Ello squads up and running!

I picked up my third T-70 today so I can get into running the squad properly. Got Jess and Nien cards on eBay.

Ello is the first name on the teamsheet!

How much were the cards compared to picking up the Heroes of the Resistance upgrade?

Anything Ello can do, Poe, Snap, or Nien can do better/cheaper I'm finding. Also, he doesn't have an Astromech that synergizes well with his ability. Please correct me if I'm wrong, I'd love to work him into the squad.

Here's an example: When Ello (with Predator or Expertise) does his awesome white turn maneuver, he gets to take an action. When VI Snap w/ Targeting Astro and Primed Thrusters does the same, he gets a target lock and a boost while being considerably cheaper and higher PS. Maybe Snap is just awesome.

Jess was around £3 and Nien was around £1.99. I don't really like the Falcon or the Black X-Wing so spending a small amount like this seemed alright. I'm very new so I'm not sure how many expansions I'll end up buying.

No doubt you're right, just Ello was my first really successful pilot so I don't want to drop him! If I ever get more competitive I'll consider it more. Thanks for the tips though, I do struggle to find good upgrades for him other than Expertise.

I do think the white talon roll is great for its own sake though, even if you can't find a card that synchronises very well. Casual noob speaking!

Unfortunately, I have to agree :( . They made some pretty aggressively priced pilots in Heroes of the Resistance, so much so that I don't even look at the original T-70 pilots any more.

Well, my current Nien build moves in a similar way to Asty but gets more dice mod. The two could swap in my list and have a similar role, trouble is I like Nien too much, and Jess needs someone slow, and Snap Nien and Asty are too expensive.

I could trade him for the BB8 Poe in my first list, instead... tricky.
