I played this one game with R3-A2 as an experiment to get stress into the list. I only triggered it once but it was extremely useful that turn. I think stress messes with quite a few things at the moment.

That and also I don't have to worry about their abilities being useless (therefore objectively choose what to do with them without being distracted by the tiny inner voice calling "hey! If you do that, you will waste his ability now!"). But otherwise I am mentally OK!

I find that having stress in a 3-X-Wing-list is deadly...

If you can put a couple of stress on a ship, you can sometimes force them to joust you, which normally results in a positive outcome for you.

Agree R3-A2 is really useful.

Maybe the best option is to run Nien Numb instead of Poe and free up some money for an Autothrusters or two.

Battle report!

I wanted to fly three X-Wings come **** and high water, and I didn’t expect them to fare especially well. The meta seemed just way too unfriendly to small ships with bad dials and only the one frontal arc, but I just love these guys. So my goal for the tournament was to win one or two games (we were 16 players, with six games in the Swiss and then three games in the bataillon you were grouped in based off the Swiss) and to score points in each game.

My list:

- Poe Dameron (PS8), Predator, Pattern Analyzer, Intergrated Astromech, R5P9

- Snap Wexley, Veteran Instincts, Pattern Analyzer, Integrated Astromech, R2 Astromech, Black One

- Jess Pava, M9G8, Integrated Astromech

My strategy was to start in a triangle formation (Jess and Poe behind each other and Snap midway to the right), going 1-straight in round 1 to allow Jess to „power up“ Snap with a TL, engage from a distance and concentrate the fire on the best target available. Each ship had rereolls that way and could put down Focus tokens for maximum dice efficiency, while the enemy didn’t have a clear target: Poe could regenerate shields, Snap didn’t provide vital bonuses for the squad and Jess was too cheap and low-PS to be a high priority target.

Game 1: Decimator with Kylo Ren, Captain Solzet, Wampa

I played against a very experienced player, and the game started with me accidently setting up the ships the wrong way so they bumped in round 1. I never recovered from the impossibility of setting up in formation, and the Imperials, sensing a weakness, charged headlong. I managed to down Wampa with a lot of effort before all three T70, one which was blinded continously, were all dust. I learned only after the game that Inegrated Astromech would have protected me from that, and that I should have made the Decimator my first priority.

Game 2: Nym with Autoblaster and Bomblet Generator, Keith Scarlett, Y-Wing with TLT

I set up correctly this time, flying a X-Wing triangly slowly (1-straights) towards the scum. The Y-Wing was overexposed on the flank, just a littlebit too far out, and I turned Snap into it, shedding the TL they Y-Wing had on him and boosted in Range 1. Poe and Jess banked behind him and out of Nym’s arc and range. The Y-Wing died without firing one shot. The X-Wings then disengaged, turned, and attacked the Firespray and disengaged again. During those maneuvers, Jess got finally worn down, but in the end, Poe and Snap outgunned a Nym who dropped bombs only after all of his teammates were down due to bad positioning.

Game 3: Ketsu Ono, Dengar

I went into this with the surefire expectation of losing within 30 minutes. Jess‘ PS forced me to set up first, and the two Scum ships set up opposite and charged at me, as I charged at them. Snap was at the receiving end of the first joust, keeping only one HP thanks to the Integrated Astromech, but the X-Wings tore away Ketsu’s shields. In the next round, Snap tried to escape (but was shot), while Poe and Jess tallonrolled out of the way and ended up in range 1 and out of Dengar’s arc. Using the opportunity, they tore into Dengar, stripping his shields and doing hull damage. A crit and the looming board edge forced Dengar to sloop, giving him stress and keeping him in arc, so Poe finished the job the following round. Both X-Wings then disengaged, turned, and jousted towards Ketsu. I misjudged the approach, however, and Poe bumped her while Jess ended up next to her and died in an instant. Poe k-turned, blinded Ketsu and killed her the following round, where she was unable to escape his arc.

Game 4: Nym with Autoblaster and bomblet generator, four Z95 with Cruise Missiles

I didn’t know what to expect from that list, because I lack any experience with swarms. The game started slowly, with us at opposite sides of the map, making their way to each other. The first exchange of gunfire was favorable for me, blowing up a Z95 before it could launch ist missile and dodging the arc of the other that had gotten in range. Snap was then hit with a lot of shots, getting a Damaged Cockpit in the process. I flew an unnecessary big turn because I forgot he had a R2, and thus he stayed out of position until finished up by Nym. The game then was elaborate cat and mouse for a time, with Poe and Jess trying to get good shots. Their superior action economy and the space debris allowed them to destroy another Z95 and to strip away Nym’s shields. Nym in turn managed to finally off Jess Pava, and with less than four minutes on the clock, Poe managed to blow up Nym (who only had one health left) with a shot at the far edge of Range 3, k-turn and destroy the last Z95 in the last remaining 30 seconds. I was thankful to my opponent who didn’t play to delay and allowed me to finish the game in that manner.

Game 5: Deathrain with Unguided Rockets and Bomblet Generator, Backdraft and Countess Ryad

This list was very close to mine in conceptional idea: no clear priority targets, jousters, comparably brittle and, thankfully, no turrets (but bombs from the Punisher). We started the game opposite each other at the left side of the board. I flew two rounds of 1-straight, while the Imperials came in with 2-straights mostly. This allowed me to engage Countess and Backdraft while Deathrain was left just out of range; a big initial advantage. I figured I’d need it, since the Imperial ships were a bit stronger than me. The first joust did a lot of damage to Jess, while Backdraft was hit hard in turn. In the following turn, we bumped a lot, and I lost Jess but was able to kill both Backdraft and the Countess; Snap survived with one hit point. He fell victim to Deathrain soon, and the remaining 35 minutes of the game where the most annoying so far, as Poe was unable to catch the **** Punisher – down to two health – and we flew around each other for the whole time. After we put down our dials ten seconds before the end of the game, my opponent basically allowed me to get a shot – which I was duly grateful for -, which put down Punisher. The experience had been frustrating, though, because the Punisher should feel more cumbersome and less maneuverable than Poe freaking Dameron, but unfortunately, that wasn’t the case.

That’s it for the day! On to day 2, last game of the Swiss, and the bataillon rounds.

Game 6: Four Scurrgh bombers, one with Autoblaster, one with Secret Agent, one with Zuckuss

This list was the bane of the whole tournament, winning every game it was in. The best performance anyone had against it was destroying one of the Scurrghs. I had appropriately strong reservations going into that. Barring better options, I jousted them head on. The first exchange of fire killed all shields on Snap, whereas I was able to kill all shields on Zuckuss. I then surprised my opponent by breaking of with 3-turns and boost, k-turning the round after and re-engaging, killing Zuckuss. He then continued to expertly block my ships for the rest of the game, killed Snap, then Poe. I damaged the Secret Agent and finally got the killing blow in with Jess before she died as well in the combined fire of the remaining two Scurrghs. I fared best with a 100-50 loss, and still, nobody has a clue what to do against it. I would face it again, since the unexpectedly strong performance I had combined with the ludicrous wins the four Scurrghs were racking up meant my MoV scored me third place; luckily, my SoS brought me in second division.

Game 7 (1st division game): Deathrain with Unguided Rockets and Bomblet Generator, Backdraft and Countess Ryad

I faced off against my adversary from game 5 again, and the result was lopsided. We started in opposite corners, and he divided his forces, with the Countess going along while Deathrain and Backdraft where going through an asteroid field. My opponent misjudged Ryad’s approach, setting himself with the back to my fighters, losing all but one HP in the first round without being able to shoot back. In the next round, Backdraft landed on an asteroid, Ryad got blown up and Deathreain missed his attack. I turned, destroyed Backdraft, lost one shield on Jess due to Deathrain’s bomb, turned again and chased Deathrain, at which point my opponent gave up. The game was over in 25 minutes, mainly due to me lucking into two mistakes by my opponent.

Game 8 (2nd division game): Nym with Autoblaster Turret and Bomblet Generator, Kavil and a Y-Wing with TLT

I had played against this list of a buddy of mine in preparation several times and always lost badly, and this game was no exception. Nym is just deadly, and two green dice do not suffice to stand any chance against TLT. No matter which way I turn, I die. For the first time since all training games, I managed to kill Nym, and I damaged both Y-Wings badly, but then I was dead and it was over without a real contest.

Game 9 (3rd division game): EcoDash, Chopper (Ghost) with Autoblaster and Shield Projectors

Dash and Chopper set up in opposite edges, flying towards each other. I ran forward, trying to get Dash, pursuing him and ignoring Chopper. Dash’s Expertise meant four hits each round, and both Jess and Snap died in the pursuit, but Dash did die in the end. Poe then faced a completely full Ghost and wore it down in an epic dogfight, regenerating shields and slowly but steadily stripping away shields and hull from the Ghost until finally, it exploded.

And that was the tourney. As a conclusion, I think the three T70 list was pretty good, actually. That each ship had rerolls and two of them could fly red maneuvers and still keep a Focus was worth gold, and Poe’s regeneration decided the endgame more often than not. I took no Target Locks save for one freak accident in which Snap ended up in range 1 of an enemy and Jess was already dead, and this helped massively. As to the enemy ships flown, Scurrghs are simply ridiculous. Way too strong, they tended to dominate every game they were in. However, I was glad that I was able to enjoy games with three jousting T70, which I love to fly even with all their shortcomings.

That option lacks the staying power of Poe's for the endgame, unfortunately.

Yeah, I'm sure you're right. I'm thinking maybe Pattern Analyzer will have to be the sacrifice, or a cheaper ship instead of Snap

Were there a lot of TLTs and other 360 weapons in your games? Almost every opponent I face seems to have that.

Thanks, but too much honor. I had a good deal of luck and I surprised people a lot because T70 haven't been seen on the table for quite some time now.

No way. You deserve the credit where it’s due. You flew well because you practiced hard with the list and from the sounds of it you kicked ***. I don’t know anyone else still flying trip7s. But in honor of your success, I’ll bust them out again for my league play.

No, it wouldn't help. Enemies that rely on high PS are mostly 10 anyway. In the other cases, you're higher with Poe anyway. 2 points is just too expensive.

@Estarriol Intensity is a dead end. Tried that for weeks, never could make it work. Too much effort for too little gain.

Completely disagree from my (limited) experience with it but it’s just a preference thing anyway and experiences vary! Then again, my experience so far suggests Poe is better for two ship builds rather than triple t-70.

Completely agree on the PS call though - if you’ve a bid 8 is plenty, since the badguys are all ps10 or 8 these days.

I think Intensity on Poe is fantastic, but probably not in a Trip70 list.

Yeah, sorry, that's what I meant. Poetensity is pretty cool in conjunction with other stuff, but I found no way to make it work with T210, and that's what the thread is about

I am very close to decide to take tripple T-70 on the upcoming Nationals. I am considering Poe (PTL+BB8+IA+Primed Thrusters+B1) and with him 2xRSV+Snap Shot+Targeting Astromech. Snapshot is very nasty surprise for those pesky 1AGI ships. Also, I consider putting R3-A2 on one of the RSVs. Do you think it would be viable?

I play this constelation of Poe since the very beginning (basically I started with PTL+BB8+IA and then added PS9, Primed Thrusters and B1) and know how to play him well. If he manage to stay up to the late game, he is arc-dodging powerful monster. R3-A2 on one of the Veterans, might be a good distraction target, especially with the potential to give two stress per turn. What do you guys think?

I don't fly well enough to use Snapshot, so I can't comment on that. I found that having the many rerolls of my list made PTL superflous, as I never needed a TL and always focused, and in the current meta you don't need Boost that much because engaging over range 2 and 3 is actually preferable. My experience was that you really want to avoid stress with Triple T70, and a stress bot that can't shed it easily and PTL give you stress you have a hard time of losing because the T70 doesn't have that many green maneuvers to choose from.

Seeing as I couldn't care less about Q4 prizes, I think I will be seeing out the year in T-210 Style.

On a related note, I had a blast with Jess + 2 x Blue Sq and 2 x Bandits that was ages ago. Still counts right?

PTL on Poe gives me huge amount of options. I am using the old time shenenigans. "Reveal green maneuver - do Barrel Roll (BB-8) - do one more action from PTL (including boost to change direction of flight) - perform green maneuver (shed stress) - Focus (or whatever if you focused thru PTL). You only have Stress when you really don't want to do the Barrel Roll and still need second action. Also he can shed 2 Target Locks per turn with Black One. I play this for quite some time so I might be too confident.

But I agree about the Stressbot. It's probably not that good Idea.

I haven't tested it much but I would argue in favour of stressbot. I know T70s don't have great amount of green options, but then again you don't have to use the droid all the time. I can imagine quite a few situations (like advanced sensors) where stress is going to inconvenience your opponent more than you. Just like PTL really, you need to be careful when you use it.

Obviously Nien is a great carrier for it but he doesn't often make these lists. In his absence I'm going to stick with it on Jess for a while.

I see your point, but there are droids in that price class that perform a benificial task for the whole game.
