Build around Farander

By Rolotamasi, in X-Wing Squad Lists

After watching the most recent @Thrawn on YouTube Battle Report (awesome by the way, keep it up), I was really intrigued by the Keyan Farlander build in Thrawn's list:

Keyan Farlander (29)
Rage (1)
Collision Detector (0)
Inspiring Recruit (1)
B-Wing/E2 (1)

At a paltry 32 points I was wondering why this guy doesn't see more play. I get that he has only one green, but the B-Wing has a respectable amount of health (at least in my opinion as a primarily Imperial player) and the Rage/Inspiring Recruit combo affords offensive and defensive modifications.

So my questions is can he be put in a respectable list or is the B-Wing too fragile?

part of it is that he is fragile and draws too much attention to himself, the other problem is finding a game closer and another high damage ship that can all fit into the same small package of only 100 points, sure you can run biggs with him to keep him alive but then you fly in formation and become even more predictable, likely a successful list with him would be something like...or...something overall that pulls fire away from him by posing a bigger threat via control, damage, or something they wont be able to kill without early focus fire

100 points

PILOTS

Norra Wexley [R2-D2, Push the Limit, C-3PO, Alliance Overhaul] (39)

Keyan Farlander [Collision Detector, Rage] (30)

Cassian Andor [Adaptability, Fire-Control System, Inspiring Recruit, "Zeb" Orrelios, Pivot Wing] (31)

PILOTS

Keyan Farlander [Collision Detector, Rage] (30)

Lothal Rebel [Fire-Control System, Hera Syndulla, Inspiring Recruit] (39)

Thane Kyrell [R3-A2, Ezra Bridger, Alliance Overhaul] (31)

IMHO, the B-wing struggles in the current meta due to a limited dial (too many reds) and very easy to focus down and is typically at least a 1/3 of your points. That being said, this build could do some work and if his partners are just as scary or more so the opponent may have a hard time prioritizing targets. I love the B-wing for fun. One of my favorites is Nera, being able to pop torps in all directions is great fun, but she ends up being a one trick pony.

I like Farlander in aces lists. Slow-roll him into the action behind pilots like Poe, Jake or Corran. Jake Farrell and Keyan Farlander were my bread and butter when I first got into the game. I kind of miss the days when Rebel Aces was the best thing in my collection. (insert nostalgic sigh)

Keyan Farlander — B-Wing 29
Rage 1
Collision Detector 0
Jan Ors 2
B-Wing/E2 1
Ship Total: 33

Maybe this configuration makes Farlander more playable.

Keyan Farlander B Wing

Push The Limit

Jan Ors

Sensor Jammer

B wing E2

Tractor Beam

Put Poe, Red Ace, Any 35 to 40 tricked up, out Ace with awesome upgrades like Lonewolf, R2, Autothrusters, etc

A 20 to 30 non ace like green pilot A wing, Chardan, Test Pilot, Autothrusters, PTL, Wired

Send the A wing as blocker, flanker, dodger. Fly Poe, Red ace mid range, semi blocker, flanker, dodger. Follow with B Wing in Rear, side flank. Use tractor beam to slam enemy ships onto rocks, debris, thus stopping, limiting their attacks, defense, agility. Give evades to B wing, X wing.

If at Range 3 B wing will have 2 green dice, a Evade token, a focus token, Sensor Jammers, that can, could negate a max of 4 damage (1 with Jammers, 1 focus, 1 evade, 1 green die rolled evade. Combine that with its 5 shields, 3 hull, tractor beam, and it would take 2,3,4 turns, for 2,3,4 ships to gang up destroy it, while Poe, Ace, A wing, other, B wing, gang up on destroy enemy list.

Lose B wing, maybe X wing or not, Win game.

Keyan Farlander B wing is a BEAST in this kind of build, list.

I think this is a great way to spend 32 points. Id add a tractor beam for 1 point on the off chance you get to put someone on an asteroid before they can shoot or set them up to go off the board.

I like Keyan a lot. Been trying various things with him the last few months. Here's what I'm currently running:

B-Wing: · Keyan Farlander (29)
Rage (1)
Collision Detector (0)
B-Wing/E2 (1)
Inspiring Recruit (1)
ARC-170: · Braylen Stramm (25)
· R3-A2 (2)
Gunner (5)
Alliance Overhaul (0)
U-Wing: · Cassian Andor (27)
Adaptability (Increase) (0)
Plasma Torpedoes (3)
Fire Control System (2)
Guidance Chips (0)
· Rey (2)
· Jan Ors (2)
Pivot wing (0)
-- TOTAL ------- 100p. --

Cost effective Keyan with Braylen to 1) draw fire 2) make the bwing's dial hurt less. Cassian sometimes supports and bumps; sometimes adds a third attacker.

I think Jan is an absolute auto include as crew when flying 1 agi rebel ships. If nothing else it provides a disincentive to attack the ship you want to keep alive (usually Braylen for me).

Been running Keyan for a couple months now and I'm embarassed to say I never considered TB... Great idea.

It's not just the B-wing. All small based, 1 agility, single arced ships are not seeing much play. This includes the G1-A and TIE Punisher. The ARC's saving grace is that it has 2 firing arcs. Y wings and K wings have turrets so they are still seeing a lot of play. 1 agility ships tend to be tanky but also expensive, thus making them prime targets. When given the choice of shooting the 2 agility ship with focus or the 1 agility ship with focus, you shoot the 1 agility ship knowing you're probably going to do some damage. And damage is what wins you the game.

I would love to see a fix for 1 agility small based ships.

I like this. I have also been wanting to find a home for Braylon, thus scratches both itches. Might just give this a test run.

What about the elephant in the room. Biggs. He would help to keep the B-Wing alive. Maybe Rex for less points?

I find flying with Biggs makes you super predictable and my opponents punish me for it. My current Keyan wingmates allow for more options.
