Beginner Rebel flanking fleet vs Imperial

By player2418339, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

Hi there! I am rather new to the game, and I am trying to understand the ins and outs of fleet-building a bit better. I will be playing against an imperial player sometime soon who I think will be playing at least two ISDs and I am trying to counter with a mobility/flanking build with Rapid Launch bays for 3 bomber squads.

I have currently selected Commander Sato, but I think Mon Mothma might be good too given how many of my ships have evade defense tokens. The strategy would be to keep the Star Cruiser central with a slow and steady march forward while the rest of the ships try to come in for a flank and reach the back of the ISDs. I only have three squadrons (two b-wings and luke), who will be placed on the Pelta to pop out right as I get close to the back of the ISDs.

Now I am sure this list is far from optimized, so I would greatly appreciate any feedback you may have. Unfortunately I do not have access to Home One, so no beautiful side arcs this time.

(EDIT: New list below)

Faction: Rebel Alliance
Points: 398/400

Commander: Commander Sato

Assault Objective: Precision Strike
Defense Objective: Hyperspace Assault
Navigation Objective: Superior Positions

Modified Pelta-class Command Ship (60 points)
- Engine Techs ( 8 points)
- Rapid Launch Bays ( 6 points)
= 74 total ship cost

MC30c Scout Frigate (69 points)
= 69 total ship cost

GR-75 Medium Transports (18 points)
- Bomber Command Center ( 8 points)
= 26 total ship cost

[ flagship ] MC80 Star Cruiser (96 points)
- Commander Sato ( 32 points)
- Raymus Antilles ( 7 points)
- Gunnery Team ( 7 points)
= 142 total ship cost

CR90 Corvette B (39 points)
= 39 total ship cost

2 B-Wing Squadrons ( 28 points)
1 Luke Skywalker ( 20 points)

First of all: I love Sato with the MC30 Scout, but always take Ordnance Experts and a black crit effect with that. It makes your hits so devastating if you hit with those Assault Proton Torpedoes at long range. If you have two MC30, think about taking both for a fast flanking fleet.

That being said, I think your fleet elements currently do not combine nicely to a whole. Your Pelta is without Fleet Command and as such does a lot less than an AF Mk2, your plan to release squads with RLB does not work well with Sato, the naked CR90 will probably not do a lot for you, and you are lacking a way to deal with enemy bombers.

I would drop the CR90 and invest in some more squads and upgrades. Think about your admiral. If you want to stick with Sato and make him count then drop the RLB and put in fast A-Wings that can get close to the enemy ships fast and get Sato going, especially Tycho.

If you want to follow the RLB idea, I would rather take Mon Mothma, and still some additional squads to intercept enemy fighters.

Typos..

Thanks a lot for your tips! I redid it the list a bit according to your advice and added a few new features.

I kept the main structure, dropped the CR90 and swapped the phoenix for an AF. I also added a few more squadrons and swapped out some upgrades (unfortunately I do not have more A-wings, so X-wings will have to do).

The idea is to have the MC80 Star Cruiser as the centerpiece. Then it will use Overload pulse to exhaust defense tokens as the first activation (possibly after the transports), and then use MC30 and AF to stay far away in the beginning and pick off the exhausted defense tokens using Intel Officer. The A-wings will be moving in around round 2 via a squadron command to activate Sato's ability so that I begin to chip away on the damage.

I wish I had two MC30s, but the space potato will have to do.
