opponent has skill relevant skill...

When running opposed checks, the base characteristics is used to determine challenge. The GM adds +1 misfortune if the opponent has the relevant skill.

If the check is against a basic skill, does this qualify? In other words, ALL checks opposing a basic skill come with a default 1 misfortune die. Or should this rule be "trained" skills only?

I believe it is intended to be trained skills.

That was my interpretation of it also.

That was my reading as well, and the way we've been playing. One of my players picked up the core set and asked about it though.

The official answer is that it applies only to trained skills .
