So in an answer to a number of questions:
- How do we build 4 decks with only 2 core sets equitably?
- How do we start the game quicker?
- How do we make this more like an in-game deck builder like Thunderstone, Harry Potter, etc?
- How do we introduce players to the game that are not interested in constructing their own decks?
We came up with an interesting idea that we want to playtest. Quite simply, we are going to build 4 decks with the suggested lists. Then, we will allow players to swap out 4 cards prior to starting, adhering to their character card restrictions. In between scenarios, players will be allowed to swap out 2 zero cost cards for free, in addition to spending XP to upgrade per usual.
Now we realize that a new card is coming out called Adaptable that will allow players to do what we are proposing. We feel, especially if players start with the suggested decks, that being able to switch out more zero cost cards will still be useful.
After playing the game several times with constructed decks, the game feels pretty easy on standard difficulty. Not speaking for my friend here, I personally feel the game is balanced on standard for the suggested decks so I also believe this format will be properly challenging for standard.
This idea is going to be play tested and possibly fine-tuned later, so I would appreciate any feedback. I am also posting this because I know there are a lot of questions in the community about how to do a 4-player game with only 2 core sets so I think this might be a helpful suggestion.
Be critical, but be kind. Thanks!
