I played one skirmish game a year and a half ago and liked the game. My friend has just the base set and is bringing it to our board game retreat.

I want to buy one expansion pack (cause they look so cool) and include that character on a skirmish team to make my experience of the game more fun (think of it like I want to experience the game from the point of view of one of the minis).

I don't necessarily want something that is super powerful or super good for skirmish, I just want a pack that is way fun to play and will either be a hoot to see in action or have a cool scenario to play. I lean closer to light side than dark and currently I'm vibing off the new movies...

...but I love it all so WHICH PACK WOULD YOU RECOMMEND and why.

Luke or Obi-Wan. Both are super good for skirmish, way fun to play and will be a hoot to see in action and have a cool scenario to play, and light side. Personally, I'd prefer Obi-Wan (Scenario is in the current rotation).

Some characters need the expansion boxes so stay clear of them.

Pick a character you like is always the best option.

I would choose a faction first.

Scum: Bossk

Rebel: Jedi Luke

Imperial: Grand Inquisitor or Captain Terro.

All are fun to play!

Skirmish map only uses Core tiles, but the campaign mission uses Twin Shadows tiles.

It depends which faction you want to play. I assume not Mercenary as they don't have much in the core box.

For Rebels, I would choose the Alliance Rangers or Obi-Wan. I don't think Jedi Luke is a good choice as the core box doesn't have many good Rebel units. Luke is one of the few that is good and you're not allowed to use both Lukes. The Alliance Rangers pack a big punch, and at 12 points for the elites will be a big chunk of your list. However, if you also want a new skirmish map then both the Alliance Rangers and Jedi Luke require tiles from Jabba's Realm and in that case I would recommend Obi-Wan who's just an all-round great unit. The droids (C-3PO & R2-D2) are great too but they're small and won't have a big impact on your game.

For Imperial, I would choose The Grand Inquisitor or Captain Terro. The Inquisitor is just an impressive 9-point unit and his surge for Deadly is very useful against white die rolling Rebels. Captain Terro looks more impressive on the board (Dewback!) and if you don't mind proxying units you actually get cards for Captain Terro and the Dewback Rider but only one model (so you could use an E-Web and pretend it's the Dewback Rider). But Terro's mission also requires Jabba's Realm whereas the Inquisitor only needs core set tiles.

Ah this is very helpful, thanks for saying "why", that helps me make decisions and knowing that the skirmish map is dependent on other boxes helps me make an informed decision too. Thanks for the link to boardwars...that was helpful to research all but the rebel rangers and captain terro.
