New Race: Undead

By reidchapman, in Battlelore

Here's my rules for playing the living dead.

Undead: All undead units are completely fearless but also quite frail, undead units never retreat for any reason, if they were to retreat X number of spaces they take X damage instead.

Terror: The undead are very good at frightening opponents who are without support, Units that aren't bold and are adjacent to undead are terrified and retreat 2 spaces for every flag rolled and may suffer panic losses.

Special Unit: Necromancer, A necromancer is like a musician in the way that he replaces one of the members but instead he always replaces the standard bearer, so he will be last to die. An undead unit lead by a necromancer regains 1 unit (max 4) for each banner hit they score.

Any one else have races they made up?

Hi there,

Glad to see we have another mad hatter making up races and the like gran_risa.gif . If you follow the link in my sig (or just click here www.boardgamegeek.com/filepage/35034/battlelore-creature-races-and-campaign-rules-hom ) you can download my collection of Races, creatures, campaign rules and other bits and bobs. At present I'm (slowly oh so painfully slowly) doing a 'siege expansion'

The standard bearer is the last miniature to be removed so the necromancer would have to replace one of the other figures in the unit.

Do you have many other expansions? The reason for asking is the max unit size of 4 be cause cavalry have a base of 3 and there are specialist cards in call to arms that can add to the number of figures in a unit so it might be easier to add a cap of the units size at deployment.

Nothing wrong with having the necromancer double as the standard bearer ;) I do agree that the "raising from the dead" ability should probably be capped at whatever the number of figures that particular unit had during deployment.

Also, Reid, I think I catch your intention on having the undead be "fearless", but that term does have another meaning in BattleLore (from the Lore Card of the same name). Currently Fearless means all flags rolled against a particular unit are ignored. Is what you intended for the undead that they take a hit for each flag but do not retreat? Or not quite that frail? (Because that would be quite frail ;) )

Hi there,

About the standard bearer, yeah no real reason why it can't be replaced. I try to keep 'core' rules in place so you don't have to think about them and just bolt on new ones, but that's just my style and I doubt I even follow it every time... gui%C3%B1o.gif

I think the version I did was they ignored SoS, flags basically hit instead and they also got an additional figure (so with specialist cards infantry could have 6 miniatures in them!).

Chris

the hit for each flag is to make up for the fact that otherwise they would alomst always battleback and undead in fantasy have never struck me as the elites of combat, there the hapless grunts misc. evil villians send to go and die... ...or re-die or whatever.

I just wanted to make sure that there a "worse then human" race.

About the necromancer: Thanks for noticing that, It should be max 4 for infantry/ max 3 for cavalry, Even if the group deployed with more via kings allies. And yes he does replace the standard bearer.

On the exspanion question: I have the base game, hundred year war, call to arms and goblin marauders.
