ISD Chimaera in Rebels

By User1138, in Star Wars: Armada

You know you are a fanboy when something like a simple name drop makes you glee.

I admit that is what happened to me when the Chimaera was "named" in Rebels episode 3x16. I am not sure if any star destroyer was ever called by name before in a movie or TV show but this felt like the first time to me. Of course it made me hope that FFG will somehow give us the Title for armada but I'm not sure how they would supply it.

Another star destroyer? That feels wrong because you would have to buy it just for the card.

But selling cards for a miniature game feels wrong as well. I mean I liked the Corellian Conflict but I thought it was too expensive for what it contained (they shoudl have added squadron minis imo).

So what would be your preferred method if distribution if FFG wanted to give us more titles for already released ships?

I hope they release ship titles with the next campaign. I felt the corellian conflict was priced correctly for what it contained so I would be very happy if they continue this method.

Lothal Campaign

Evacuation Hoth campaign that spils over to a Battle of Endor final game ;)

It'll come in the SSD expansion with the Executrix title. ;)

If anything those cards are gonna be in another campaign...gotta make us wanna buy it.

And Destraa, who you kiddin bro....the Palpi card alone would make the SSD worth buying :P

A full-scale war campaign would be awesome for new titles. Take the concepts from the Corellian Conflict in which we fought for influence in different planets, and upscale it to battling for control of hyperlanes and major industrial worlds. Instead of the focus being about slowing the massing of each fleet, it would be about forcing enemies to spread too thin over a sprawling galactic theater. Some new capital ship titles would fit in great.

I can not fathom complaints about the price point of Corellian Conflict. It was an absolute steal.

SURPRISINGLY few ships in Star Wars have ever been 'named on-screen'. Indeed, almost no ship classes have even been 'named'. They generally stick to descriptives - 'the medical frigate', 'the flagship', 'that super star destroyer', 'my star destroyer', etc.

One of the irritations of Rogue One...as lame a class name as 'Hammerhead corvette' is...we're basically stuck with it, as it is another one of the rare instances when something seems to have been 'named' in on-screen dialog.

Lothal Campaign

I would love that!

And how amazing was that episode!!!

A Rogue One release would be perfect for the Chimaera. It would be the ISDI model, with 2 new Star destroyer cards (1 ISDI and 1 ISDII) with fleet commands and 3 titles, Chimaera, Executrix and Inflictor.

There's definitely a case for an ISDI model following Rogue One. I believe the legends Chimaera was an ISDII but still the title could be included.

Of course, nothing says you can't re-use a ship name after an earlier version is lost...

(*cough* Enterprise *cough*)

@xanderf

And now the brand new Chimera-E!!!!

Not trying to defend ffg selling paper, but I can see a explanation for cards coming with campaigns. In CC squadrons had a huge boost particularly in uniques, and it can be argued that this is to allow for more uniques available throughout the campaign as squadrons die like flies over each round. Not sure if this can be argued for ships, but then again smaller ships also pop quite fast, and as an example three available titles for the cr90 ship-type might not seem like a lot of available uniques for the full campaign.

A revamped ISD expansion may be too soon imo, since it was only 2/3 waves recent. Ship type being the same ffg most likely will not change stats but instead focus on improving its flaws, which is better done down the line when the game further grows.

If u really want just the card, I guess second hand is the way to go for best price? :) assuming you don't want all the other goodies ffg might pack the card in.

Not only the Star Trek Enterprise (even though this is the most iconic one).

If you just take the Navy one. There has been an USS Enterprise since 1777.

And HMS Enterprise since 1705 in the Royal Navy.

Or it could refit.

I'd happily run a Hammer Head corvette with the title "penetrator".

Well, the one that rammed the ISD in Rogue One was the "Lightbringer"

Naming your vessels adds a lot of focus and personality to them, even if the names are dropped just casually. As it is in tabletop RPGs, if the NPC even has a name they have to be important, right?

In the OT, the ships are not really the stars of the show, apart from the Death Star and the Falcon. And apart from these two, I think the only names actually mentioned are the Avenger in Empire and Tyderium in Jedi?

FFG already even has Chimaera art (though it's the old Chimaera):

Can't insert images for some reason today
