Hello I am new to the xwing world. A have fallen in love with the Tie world and my wife has chosen rebel scum. (Lol). My son has recently become interested in it and would like to start his own. I suggested the merc. Third faction but none of us have no idea where to start. Any ideas would be great. Thanks for any help.

Simple advice.. Get the ships you like best. Don't worry about what's most powerful. Start by flying what you love.

Sounds like you're playing at home, right? Not at stores? If that's the case, just get whatever you think is cool and learn the basics off those ships.

You already have at least 2 TIEs and one X-wing. I'd suggest getting another X wing and a Falcon (try the Heroes of the Resistance expansion, as it includes both). One TIE f/o, and a pair of TIE Adv. Prototypes, or Imperial Aces. And Scum-wise, you're going to want a Firespray and the Most Wanted expansion (two Zeds and a Y). And consider getting the other Core Set that you don't have. More dice, more upgrades & 3 more ships for about $25 is a bargain.

That should be great for home games to start. Just set a budget and stay within it.

If you do go to a game store, bring a shopping cart, as your butt will be handed to you and you'll need something to carry it in! Just don't get discouraged. Manage your expectations and just set small goals to begin with.

The best part about being to play at home is you can play all kinds of missions & scenarios that many people in the stores might not be willing to play. And most of all try and have fun!

The most wanted pack gives you some rebel ships you can double up on later.

most important thing about scum is the craziness you can achieve.

Most Wanted is great way to start Scums - you get 3 ships and "conversion sets" for another 3 (HWK and Ywing from Rebels and Firespray from Imperials - this way you can expand 2 factions at once). After that - whatever you like, Jumpmaster gives interesting options same as YV666. From small ships Kirhaxz and Starviper are good for casual play.
