Squadron help.

By Spazz1985, in Star Wars: Armada Rules Questions

Ok, I have a couple of squadron questions.

Page 2 Rule Reference "each squadron attack range is distance 1."

1. Does that mean I can only attack targets at a distance 1? In other words, do you HAVE to be engaged, distance 1, for a squadron to fire at a squadron or ship?

2. So an X-wing squadron with blue anti squadron dice can't shoot at a blue range, or at the red range with its anti-ship battery.

Page 11 Learn to play under squadron attack; it says "squadrons can attack ANY target at a distance 1."

3. If I am engaged with an enemy squadron, and at distance 1 of a ship can attack the ship, instead of having to attack the engaged squadron?

I have a good handle on wave one squadron ability. However, the news ones are confusing me. Could someone explain these squadron abilities to me, or give me a good link for them.

Grit

Intel

Heavy

Snipe

Squadrons can only attack at Distance 1. Wether they are shooting a squadron or a ship. Distance 1. (Rhymer excepts this).

If you are Engaged, you must shoot a Squadron. This can be a squadron you are engaged with, or another squadron at distance 1, but unless the engaging squadrons ar heavy , you must shoot a Squadron.

Grit - If you are only Engaged by 1 Squadron, you Can Move.

Intel - All Enemy Squadrons at Distance 1 have the "Heavy" Keyword. This one is in the RRG .

Heavy - You do not prevent enemy squadrons engaged with you from Moving or Shooting at Ships.

Snipe - You can shoot at Squadrons at Distance 2 with the Armament listed.

1) Yes, you can only attack at distance 1 with squadrons (special exceptions notwithstanding).

2) yup, both distance 1 only.

3) No, you must attack an engaged squadron if able rather than a ship (Heavy notwithstanding). RRG pg 6 ENGAGEMENT.

Grit allows you to move away if you're engaged by only one enemy squadron. Normally, you cannot move if you are engaged.

Intel gives all enemies within distance 1 of you heavy. This has the effect of allowing anything that those squadrons are engaging to fly away or shoot at ships. Say your B-wing is engaged by a TIE fighter but is in distance 1 of an ISD--you can fly in an Intel ship to make that TIE fighter heavy and allow the B-wing to attack the ship.

Heavy is a fairly unique squadron keyword in that it is a disadvantage. A heavy squadron does not prevent engaged squadrons from moving away or attacking ships.

Snipe allows you to attack a squadron at distance 2--but not distance 1--of you. Remember how normally you're limited to attacking at distance 1? This is an exception to that.

1. Yes, you must be at distance 1 to attack a squadron/ship. Rhymer is the exception because of his special ability.

2. No an Xwing must be at distance 1 to shoot a ship. Colour is irrelevant for squadron attack ranges.

3. No. If a squadron is engaged it cannot attack a ship.

Grit - Allows a squadron only engaged by 1 squadron to move. This could allow it to move out of squadron engagement and into range of a ship.
Intel - Makes enemy squadrons at distance 1 heavy. This could be very useful...
Heavy - Cannot prevent engaged squadrons moving or attacking ships. If you are only engaged by heavy squadrons, feel free to move or attack a ship....
Snipe - Attack at distance 2, (NOT distance 1).

Don't worry if you don't know the first thing about this game. Hell, I'm still working on the second thing.
