new player list help

Hi,

I hope you guys can help me.

Together with a friend I just bought the collection of a former player, we expanded it with the new core and a K-wing. We've played a few games and I really liked the gamed, even though most games I got shot to bits.

Now I wanted to try a 3-ship list with a K-wing (because I really like the ship) with some ordnance and Poe (because of X-wings).

I thought about something like this:

Miranda Doni, Twin laser turret, Extra Munitions and Homing missiles (42 points)

Poe (PS8 version)
R2-D2 & Veteran instincts or BB-8 & Push the Limit (36 points)

This leaves me with 22 points to spare. What should I run? And how should I load out Poe?

Ok, first off I don't like that Miranda. She'd do a lot better with advanced slam instead of the munitions and missile. Alternatively, you can use the ps2 warden sqd pilot and put advanced slam, extra munitions, Conner net, ion bomb. Could even put a tlt on there if you spare the points.

Onto Poe, both are good. Entirely depends on how you want to fly him. If you prefer to be unpredictable then go ptl bb8. Otherwise if you prefer hit and run, you can fly in, shoot, fly out and then recover a few shields with r2.

Third ship, here you have a few options. A wings and Z-95s are both good cheap options for blockers. Especially after an ion drop as you know where you need to be to deny the action. A wings are faster and a little more durable with the extra evade + evade action.

Also, Biggs is amazing at drawing fire from your main ships...

Here's a couple of different list ideas for you:

1:

Poe, Ptl, bb8 or r2d2, VI

Biggs

2:

Warden squadron pilot, extra munitions, twin laser turret, Conner net, ion bombs, advanced slam

Both of those lists dont do enough damage. Warden without sabine in list two does 1 dmg with a conner and none with ion. Poe will just have his one focus mod. In list 1 Miranda has adv slam and an ion bomb? Doesnt make sense.

Miranda with HM is one of the hardest hits in the game. Think OP should stick with that without sabine crew.

Miranda w/ TLT, HM, EM, Recon Spec, ion bomb, guidance chips or LRS if ya got em = 47pts.

Poe w/ VI, R2D2 = 36pts

Prototype Awing =17pts

That is with what you have.

Ideally, if you want to proxy upgrade cards and run similar list above:

Miranda w/ TLT, HM, EM, Rey, guidance chips = 44pts.

Poe w/ VI, Pattern Analyzer, R2D2, Autothrusters = 40pts

Prototype Awing w/ refit =15pts

First and foremost, welcome to X-Wing! Your instincts are correct. It is in fact a very fun game. First thing I recommend, since you're playing casually with a friend, is to proxy upgrade cards. No shame in it. Print outs of squad builds, imo, are just as good as the actual thing in casual games. It frees you to theory craft a little more with the ship and pilot restrictions you currently have. If you're intent on taking just one K-Wing, your Miranda TLT homing missile load out with EM isn't bad. Add Guidance Chips (0) and maybe Rey crew (2) so you can slow roll and bank focus tokens freeing you to TL the round you want to get off your HMs. If you wanted to make Mirande tankier, you could crew "Golden Rod", i.e., C3P0 (3).

I'm not a big fan of Poe having to use his EPT slot for a PS bump. I think it hurts his offensive output. You might want to consider leaving him @ PS 8 and take Predator (3) or Lone Wolf (2) to give him some dice rerolls (LW might be hard to get off with 3 ships however). Pattern Analyzer paired w/ Predator for instance gives him efficient damage output even when he k-turns and talon rolls. If you take R2-D2 with him, you have two ships in your list with regen.

For a 15pt filler ship, I like a missile toting Bandit better than a Chardaan Refitted A-Wing in this list. It's hard for other small based ships to keep up w/ an A-Wing and the missiles make the Bandit a viable threat.

I've lost the first game (just) but convincingly won the second.

We agreed that for the next game we can proxy some upgrades, so I've already printed: Rey, Guidance Chips, Predator, Chardaan refit, Pattern Analyzer, Autothrusters and Integrated Astromech

If you want to run without proxies. Poe is a bad choice. He needs Autothrusters or Integrated Astormech to be great.
Here is a two ship list, thats hits like a hammer, and you could run without proxies:

Corren Horn, Push the limit, Fire-control system, R2-D2 and Engine upgrade
Miranda, TLT, EM, Homing Missiles, Conner net, Ion bombs, Advanced Slam, Bombardier

This list can hit like a hammer. If Miranda fires her missile and spends one shield and Corren is at range 1 and double tabs, then this list can deliver 14 attack dice in one round, which could potentially kill Millienum Falcon in one round!

Some players prefer to substitute Shield upgrade for Engine upgrade. Both options are very good.
If using proxies - substitute Sabine Wren for Bombardier. Sabine with bombs is fantastic!

I'd like to thank you for you comments. I ran most lists while playing against friend and actually bought some new ships; the YT-2400 and the ghost (because I saw it on a sale and just couldn't resist buying it).

The next game I'm planning on taking:

Dash Rendar – Lone Wolf, Heavy Laser Cannon, Recon Specialist, Outrider title

Miranda Doni – Twin Laser Turret, Extra Munitions, Sabine Wren, Ion Bombs, Cluster mines , Advanced slam
