Basing and what to do..

By VAYASAN, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

Hi all.

Only recently discovered this game but I have painted other minis for a long time.

Just got stuck into the core set and I have based them with grass/mud for an Endor type look, they look great like that imo but my query is, what about expansions?

I see there is a Hoth expansion which will have Echo Base trooper etc? Should I keep bases looking uniform and all grass (will look odd for Hoth units) or stick Hoth units on snow and have differing bases?

How do people do it?

I've seen various echo troopers painted in desert colours and they looked good.

I guess Echo Trooper can pass, but what about say the Snowbeast thingy?

The Wampa is habitat restricted to snow, so for the campaign, a snow base makes more sense. For skirmish, does it matter?

I guess that since you're doing terrain bases, you could do the "Endor" style base for everything not restricted to habitat, and habitat centric bases for all that are.

That's why I just went with black, though. Terrain bases look amazing, but they make for some slightly awkward situations when not on the right tiles. Not a huge issue either way though, of course.

I use different terrain on my mini's bases depending on where they're commonly associated being from or on. So, Snowtroopers would get white Hoth style bases, but I also painted a Probe Droid with a snow base just to add variety.

For me, the game is a bit different than a standard tabletop war game where all the minis have to be somewhat standardized.

I'll echo what others have said. I base them with whatever works thematically for the mini. For stormtroopers and many others, I have created a metal plating surface of a space ship for basing. I try to be creative...

I prefer matching bases so have changed my Echo Base and Snowtrooper figures to be desert camo rather than Snow, I think it works ok. (Can't find my pictures now :( )

I'm not sure what I'd do with the wampa, he'd have the same base I should imagine, but I might not paint it white, I kinda like having stuff look a bit different anyway
