Cardboard Chits were just fine.

Thank you! I must be evolving as I have never had anything I have suggested or done referred to as elegant

No I don't but looking it up I wish I did! I would have loved it at the time!
My first cardboard chit exposure was playing the SSI War of the Ring in about '77 - '78...
Hey all, I made my own battleboard using a pre-made door! Since this game uses a 3 x 6, you can buy a pre-made hollow door that is 3 x 6'8" stock for only $35 which is a heck of a lot cheaper than buying a commercial mouse pad type mat (even with all the other supplies you will use for the project).
Make sure to get the hollow door, not the solid!
I just sit this on top of a foldable 2x4 table and it doesn't slide around. Also, the board is really light so I can store it away vertically when not in use:
First time ever using flock for terrain. Came out a little more splotchy than I wanted but it works:
Now with terrain pieces added:
Close-ups (had to use Wrath of Kings minis since I'm awaiting my pre-order for Runewars):
I am waiting for my tutorial video to upload onto Youtube so will post when it is done. Goes through the whole process step-by-step.
Great idea...looks terrific. Have to ask, where did you get the castle?

Wow! Great video tutorial. I may have to attempt this myself, perhaps with a star scape on the back side for Armada/XWing!

My friend, that is the best of all excuses. Here's a little excerpt from Rick Priestley and John Lambshead's Tabletop Wargames :
QuoteA few [game tables] manage eight feet by four but larger and permanent set ups are rarely encountered beyond the confines of long-term bachelordom.
My wife, like a good spouse, tolerates my gaming nerdiness, and I, like a good spouse, do everything I can not to abuse that tolerance.

Dude, same here! I still remember that puke green cover and feel a great sense of nostalgia. All you needed to play was an entire room of your house and a week's worth of time.
Nice work on the door table Bumyong!
My wargaming surface is similar. It's a set of 3 folding closet door sections (hollow core). Each section is 2 panels (aproximately 1"x7" each) that are joined in the center with hinges. They were in my house when I moved in so the price was certainly right. I can easily do 4x7 or 6x7 tables just setting them on top of folding tables and/or my dining table. since they come in 1" segments the look isn't quite as uniform as yours but when I'm not using them I can wrap an old sheet around each one, fold them up and stand them up in the corner of the porch. As you point out, hollow core doors are wonderfully rigid and fairly lightweight.
I surfaced them for desert by priming them white and spraying on rustoleum sandstone textured spray paint from the hardware store. Super fast and cheap and durable. For woodland/grassland or urban battles I just roll out a green wool army blanket or an urban mat I made from grey vinyl tablecloth material. I've even put 2 sets end to end for a 14 foot mad-max convention game.

Multiverse Gaming's
Kingdom
range, not that much but for some reasons I think I need those
mice and cats
(and then I have to paint one cat black and call it Greebo
) and the
hobbyglass
might also be interesting.
One more Terrains4Games they got woods & trees , rivers & lakes/swamps , hills & mountains , boxes/barrels/chests , and for fantasy Old World and Frozen City , i really like the Gothic Building .
And again some more:
Ristuls Extraordinary Market , they have a section called basing and terrain , most of it is basing like mushrooms , bugs and spider eggs but also some terrain like wooden fence , stone wall , tombstones and a piglet farm .
PWorkWargames have some mats , in 3x3 or 3x6.
Tabletop Art have some terrain , skulls even in clear/crystal for your Indiana Jones needs and basing bits.
Mats by Mars makes mats for Xwing and Armada at 3x3 currently. I'll bet they add a 3x3 and 3x6 option with the foresty look they already have at 4x6 here soon.
