Hi all,

Now that I have an income I can finally indulge in some of Mel Miniatures' proxies. With so many ships though, I was wondering what peoples' preferred substitutions were for published ships.

For instance, I use ATR-6s from TIE FIghter to replace the VTs. I just imagine those Assault Transports still have those deadly 4 laser turrets equipped and are firing proton rockets against targets. I'd also use Escort Shuttles to replace Firesprays, as long as their wings don't snap off.

I was thinking about trying to subsitute an MC40 for a Pelta, but I don't know how well that would fit. I was also looking for some good Imperial susbsitutions, but does a Dreadnought fit better as a Victory substitute, an Arquitens, or a Gladiator? Are Nebulon-B2s good enough replacements for Arquitens? What about the myriad fighters?

I wanted to know what you all felt.

We don't talk much about Mels since the destruction of the paint sub forum..... Well not that much. Also I think the Dreadnought and AFmk1 look ugly.

I thought this general discussion post would receive more traffic, not 40K accusations :s if a mod is paying attention it could be moved, I wouldn't mind.

It was only recently returned (in the past few months) after quite a bit of begging and pleading on the part of the forums - across all 3 main games systems.

For some time, it was gone and deleted - along with a lot of posts that were in it. Some posts were dropped to the main forum mod as it went, but not all of them. I know both Vykes and I lost our main painting threads at the time (including his original Ceknell post).

Anyway, back to the main topic. Which base do you use for your proxies, or is anyone flying a mel miniature always using custom bases as well?

Almost everyone I've seen getting customs has gotten them as replacements for an Original... So they're using that original's base and tag...

Occasionally, its a Neb-B2 as a Gladiator... More commonly, its Assault Frigate Replacements... One Venator as a Victory Replacement and such...

At least here, I don't know anyone who has a Custom design for the purposes of being a custom Design... Only Vykes is that crazy, and he's up in E-Cloud City, rather than down here in Hothgary

I've got a Nebula Star Destroyer and a Wingless Liberty to use as Liberty stand-ins. Also a pair of Utar's AF MK I's to use as MK II's

I do like the MC-40 design.

Yeah, I'm finally in the "have spending money, must spend it" place again, and can finally pick up an Assault Figate once I get one of Mel's MK1s. It'll be nice to finally enjoy the Assault Frigate, without having to choke back the vomit while looking at the horrid MK2 space guppy.
